James Robert Ward, the man charged in the fatal shooting of his wife last year, asked a judge on Friday to let him leave Orange County in May so that he can attend his daughter's college graduation in Washington, D.C. However, the judge denied his request.

Ward was released from jail on $100,000 bond last October, but has to wear a monitoring device and can't leave the county without permission. He requested to fly to D.C. on May 14, 2010 to spend the weekend with his daughter Mallory Ward, who is about to graduate from George Washington University.

Judge denies Bob Ward request to attend daughter’s graduation

A judge today told millionaire murder suspect James "Bob" Ward he may not travel to Washington, D.C., in three weeks to attend his daughter's college graduation.

Orange-Osceola Circuit Judge Walter Komanski Sr. turned down Ward's request, saying Ward was essentially asking to make a "social and recreational" trip out of state. Ward had asked Komanski to let him spend more than three days in Washington, where his elder daughter, Mallory, will graduate from George Washington University.

Ward, wearing a dark suit and pink tie, did not testify this morning, but Mallory Ward did. She said her mother's heart would have broken "in more pieces that I could ever hope to count" if Bob Ward didn't try get to her graduation. The ceremony, Mallory Ward said, was the biggest milestone in her 22-year life.

John Hayes, Ward's bail bondsman, was asked by defense attorney Kirk Kirkconnell if he opposed Ward leaving the state for the graduation. "I don't have any objection," Hayes said. "The guy's been a model client so far."

But Assistant State Attorney Robin Wilkinson did object. Although Ward wears a satellite monitor, she said he could flee. The judge turned down Ward's request, saying Ward was essentially asking to make a "social and recreational" trip out of state.

The Isleworth millionaire accused of killing his wife asked special permission to leave town Friday, but a judge said no. Bob Ward wanted to attend his daughter's college graduation from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Ward's daughter flew in from Washington D.C. to make a plea to the judge Friday morning. Mallory Ward walked out of the courtroom in tears. She was trying to convince the judge the request was more for her than her dad, Bob Ward. Ward is currently out on bond, but wears a GPS monitor and is not supposed to leave Orange County without permission.

His daughter read a letter to the court Friday asking it to make yet another exception to the rules. “The idea of walking up on that stage when my name is called and looking out and hoping to see my family and seeing neither of their faces would, in all honesty, make me wonder why I even bothered to come,” Mallory Ward read.

Prosecutors argued this was a matter of equal protection under the law and that Ward shouldn't get special privileges just because he's rich.

Ward had apparently bought plane tickets to D.C. and even reserved a room at the Ritz Carlton, but now he won't be going anywhere. :bang:

Ward’s murder trial is expected to happen sometime this fall.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The gun used to kill Isleworth millionaire Bob Ward's wife was fired about 18 inches away from her face, new evidence in the case shows.

In a newly released report from the medical examiner, investigators have concluded that the pistol used to kill Diane Ward was only 1 1/2 feet from her face when it was fired.

"The Ward team's low-key approach – along with the lack of hype from the prosecution — has kept a case with great potential for sensationalism from becoming a circus. Nonetheless, Ward's is a high visibility case. His freedom and fortune are on the line. And, to some extent, so is the reputation of State Attorney Lawson Lamar's office."

Was hoping to wake this thread up as it's really sort of a fascinating story of how differently things go for a defendant with financial means. A very strange case, but I also think the defense, as mentioned here, will strive to keep this off the news radar.

Isleworth Murder Trial Jury Selection Continues

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Nearly two years after Isleworth millionaire Bob Ward was charged with murdering his wife, jury selection has begun for his trial.

The case has gotten a lot of attention, partly because of how Ward has acted following his wife's death.
-----
Monday he seemed relaxed and subdued until attorneys started questioning jurors. That's when he started to fidget.

So far, nearly one third of the 60 potential jurors have already been dismissed.

Does anyone know if something happened to the potential juror who went on FB after he was told not to? I was listening live earlier today, and the judge mentioned she wanted someone to come back in after lunch, I was just curious if it was the potential juror that was asked to come back in, and if so, what the outcome was. TIA

I don't have the greatest faith in Florida juries. This one posting on facebook, does nothing to restore that faith.:innocent:

Wow, this is the first time I've perused this case and I'm flabberghasted at the gall of this man. Sorta puts his family on the same bus as the Anthony's huh?
