I'm not sure where this figure came from but $3M seems excessive to me.

I've followed several high profile murder trials where the defendant was acquitted of murder and the defendants have been quoted stating their legal fees were in excess of $400k (2016 Colorado acquittal trial), 2022 federal court murder trial at $1.3M, and more recently, a defendant estimated his legal expense for his 2024 CA trial to exceed $500K.

CA was no OJ-- flanked in Court everyday by a team of 4 or 5 big name defense lawyers at the table with him! In fact, I doubt Dan Rashbaum is known outside of FL! JMO
I agree! Especially in light of the fact that Charlie’s team put on no professional witnesses or had any forensic studies done.

Nobody knows exactly what Charlie paid for his defense. But we know that he paid Rashbaum to attend and observe the entire Magbanua trial in Tallahassee in 2022. He also hired a jury consultant team from New York (along with several lawyers and one psychologist) to actually perform the voir dire. Its safe to say that firm would've had to become knowledgeable on the Defense theory and the evidence in the case. I also can't imagine a scenario where they ran the double-extortion Defense strategy without a mock trial or two. So I could very easily see Charlie's defense costing somewhere between $600k - $1M.

Gwyneth Paltrow isn't half the actress but she has the correct look. Also, I bet she can do a great job on the entertaining facial expressions of GC.
I LOVE Georgia’s facial expressions! I love her all around, but those facial expressions sly me! During CA’a trial there was a part where she was questioning Charlie about Donna’s Sunshines, and Charlie insists they were too young to remember things. The look on Georgia’s face was priceless! Big incredulous eyes!

What an incredible story, so far. I'd love to know how this arrest on the jetway went down.

I'm guessing they were flying First Class or whatever the highest equivalent is. This group usually boards first. I can see the Emirates staff and airport security cooperating with LE to have them board first of all, getting specially called by the gate agent for exclusive boarding as soon as their ticket is scanned into the system, so the jetway doors are shut behind them as the Emirates steward escorts them down to a recess in the jetway where the airport security are, looking as if they are for special individualized boarding for the plane, but are really there so Miami LE can arrest them there, before any other passengers are on the jetway and no line is held up Quickly Mirandizing them, cuffing them, and then escorting them back out securely, with their cuffed hands hidden by coats, to a waiting airport transport vehicle.

I wonder what they were carrying with them in terms of $$$$ and documents. Stuff in baggage. Hopefully this will be revealed in arrest documents or at trial.
It occurs to me that the jetway is an excellent location for an arrest, compared to the gate or an airport lounge. Very few people around and it's a confined space where LE can control access. There's basically nowhere to escape. (Not that the Adelsons were likely to do a runner.)

And in a lot of airports you can go straight from the jetway down to the tarmac so the police don't have to maneuver their way through the airport with a handcuffed arrestee.

Thinking out loud: Your loyal son, willing to do your bidding, has just had the worst week of his entire life. And there is his Mother, still relaying taking care of financial business, huh? And, to make matters worse she has "thoughts of suicide" vs " fleeing to an affordable exotic foreign country." Oh gee Donna, really? You really are the master of manipulation. Did you think your son was going to say, "Yeah Mom, I agree, suicide sounds like a viable option." Or is her son going to say, "Don't pho-get me when you are gone?" "Send me a post card once in a while?"
Now I wonder about HA? Did he drag DA to the airport in order to save her life?"

I love STS but its frustrating when they have people on who don't know the case.

"They have nothing on Harvey". I mean, they have way LESS. But he was with Donna dropping bags full of mouldy money off at Charlie's house the night of the murder to pay the killers. He was at Matsuri wondering aloud why the blackmailer never came to him and praising the cops - he never thought they were smart enough to figure it out. He's meeting Charlie in secret with Donna throughout. He was taking days off work during the bump cause he was so stressed. Magbanua's Lexus, which was valued at $6,000 was sold from Harvey to Katie for $1,700. He never wrote the checks but his dental practise is ultimately paying Magbanua for a no-show job. Thats not "nothing".

"They don't have any evidence on Wendi, except driving by the crime scene". Ummmmmm, incorrect.

I don’t watch STS or know what that is but I‘m of the opinion they don’t have enough to charge HA or WA from the evidence we have seen. I wouldn’t sit on a jury and convict (if i came in blind and didn’t know about everything of course) , too much reasonable doubt.

Of course they could have more evidence we don’t know about -

I think they have enough evidence to charge and convict both HA and WA with conspiracy to commit murder. To get that, you just need to demonstrate that they made an agreement to kill Dan Markel and that someone in the conspiracy (DA, CA, KM, SG or LR - just one of them) did an overt act to kill him.

And when you look at the public evidence that we have, thats exactly what they did.

Omg. Well Carl Steinbeck called it again. He said the boys were at risk for a possible murder-suicide ie by Donna’s doing.

I would like to think Donna wouldn’t be dumb enough/selfish enough to involve others in a plan to “unalive” herself, but I’ve learned that nothing is truly off the table with these wackadoos.

I’d like to think Dan’s spirit is chuckling right now. The hubris of the Adelsons to think they could get away with murdering a criminal law professor as esteemed as Dan Markel and walk free! Astounding.

As sad as it would be, I would be deeply touched to witness one or both of the Markel boys (that’s what I’m going to start calling them now) read a victim impact statement at Donna’s sentencing. I would enjoy watching Donna squirm at having to sit in court and listen to Dan’s sons destroy the narrative they’ve been fed and honor their father’s memory.

Not that I would blame either or both boys for not wanting to be attorneys (or dentists!!) but Markel & Markel has a nice ring to it, IMHO.
I wonder how Wendi is explaining to them that both their Uncle Charlie and their Grandma are in jail.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, former friend and someone who was sued by Charlie, a witness in the case is making the podcast rounds. He seems to have no insight into the family dynamics. I understand it’s too tempting for the podcasters to pass up the opportunity but it’s so disappointing to have someone that was this close to Charlie/the Adelson family on and he has nothing interesting to add. He seems like just a fan of the podcasters and enjoying the 15 mins. Nearly all his answers are ‘I don’t know’ and sounds like just another viewer. JMO

yes just listened to him on STS and when pressed for some insider info on condo, trips etc. has nothing to offer. Talk about 15 min. but that show seems to like him.

Yes, it's via that stairway which would be difficult to navigate with handcuffs on, but that would be a simple extraction for LE to do, then whisk them away in the cop car, along with their checked luggage.

No other passengers need to know what just happened and the plane can then begin that process of boarding without anyone in the way.

They were very efficient on the arrest, getting them out of there and retrieving the luggage. That flight took off on time and landed about an hour early. Few probably saw anything.
