DeputyDawg, I'm sorry you felt you had to delete your earlier post. I found it to be very informative and fact-based. I can understand how frustrating it must be to read discussion of LE corruption and such when you've done your part to keep integrity and good ethics in public service!
I just want to say thank you for participating in this discussion. We need people like you to help us understand "how it works"!

Susan

(A question- I get the distinct feeling that the type of "cover for your buddy" thing that we've been discussing is much more prevelant among male LE than female LE, and extends more to other officers than it would to extended LE family such as dispatchers, clerks, spouses etc.
Given that we know that ALL LE does not do this, what do you think about the ones who do?)

Aaaah, the written word! LOL I guess I did mis-understand parts of your post...Thank you for clearing it up for me...And you should be proud of your background. Takes a special person to deal with the things they deal with on a daily basis and I'm sure the "behind the scenes" stuff is just as hard.

I think the thread is in the same place. I have it bookmarked so go right to this one when I log in. I'm looking for new updates now but far as I know Theresa has not been located yet.

NGC,

LOL, yes the written word can be confusing...and especially from me when my emotions are high ;)

Yes, I see how the Missing/Located Forum Discussion is a place for this. I had thought she had been under Missing and then Missing/Located was once they were found. I need to slow down and read the fine print :D

Wishing all of her family strength today...and hoping the investigators find Theresa today.

From my personal experiences and witnessing of others, I totally agree with your impressions as far as the "covering" being more male officers. Very good insight, IMO!

That's an interesting thought, and I'm not sure what to make of that. Personally, my working with other females was limited at my past agency, as there were a few (6-7?)...so due to sheer numbers, it was few and far between when I'd work closely for long periods of time with another female. In my current agency (and I no longer work patrol, but now in mgmt), if I were on patrol, there are NO other female officers housed at this station - and there are about 50 officers stationed here. Maybe that's part of it. Just less opportunity to really gain that bond? And without stereotyping ALL, maybe females have less tendancy to live and breathe LE 24/7 as maybe some of the men? Many of the men, live breathe and play LE almost 100% of the time. As some around here say, some officers lose their personal identity because they don't know how to take the "mask" off. Hope that makes sense.

Regarding my thoughts about good cops gone bad, so to speak? Ooooh, will have to write more at lunch, LOL! I promise I'll answer. (and it's not good for those wayward souls who bring discredit to the badge...)

DD- too funny! My Hubby thinks "the mask" is his real face, and he is very proud of it! So good to hear from someone who doesn't look at me as is I were speaking Venutian when I say that !
See you at lunch!

I think it is very strange that nothing at all is being said this morning locally. I can't find any new updates, news isn't saying anything. Pray that this isn't bad news for Theresa and her family.

Just a morning observation.

I have been searching too and can't find anything. Let us know if you hear from your local sources. TIA.

From Newschannel 9 in Chatt:
No Evidence Found in Walker County Pond
Amy Hitt
April 4,2007

Walker County Emergency Services personnel completed draining a pond on Cordell Avenue, in Lafayette, Georgia, on Tuesday at 11:00 PM, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. There was no evidence found at the pond linking the site to the disappearance of Theresa Parker. Tuesday afternoon it was announced the Georgia Bureau of Investigation had arrested a LaFayette, Georgia police officer for making a false statement in the investigation of the disappearance of 911 dispatcher, Theresa Parker. Officer Harbin "Ben" Chaffin is not charged directly in the disappearance of Parker...

only for making a false statement in the course of the investigation

Corporal Ben Chaffin was charged with filing a false report to a government official during the investigation into the missing Theresa Parker case. He told investigators he and Sgt. Sam Parker were not at work the night Theresa Parker disappeared. LaFayette Police Chief Tommy Freeman says that was not true, he says they were.

Good Morning,

The release of the British hostages from Iran has taken over the cable news channels on a continual basis - have heard nothing else for 1 1/2 hours. So I'm hoping as is Concerned, that the locals will keep us abreast of any news.

I'm hoping their night search from last night has pulled them in closer to where she may be. If this pond is anything like the lakes in Mn there are those water weeds growing throughout the water, and with the draining, as they sink down they could cover anything that was in the water.

If whe was put in water don't you think they would have weighted her? So if she is there she could well be under weeds. I am glad the latest link is leaving hope for the possibility she still might be found alive. At least that is how I interpreted that last sentance. Scandi

That's so strange to me because I would think you would lie by saying you WERE at work, for your alias!

Maybe I'm missing something.

Follow the lies.

It is odd Taximom. If they were working that doesn't mean they were in the office but out driving like police do. Possibly Ben thought his statement would sound worse if they were doing something not work related when they were on duty. It's hard to say, because we don't know what else he has told them.

But just reading the update from Taylor {Thanks a lot}, if he told them where he heard she was and it was not the pond, they wouldn't have drained it and worked there last night like they did.

So I don't think he has given them any clue as to where she was put, do you? And if he had told them Sam had killed her wouldn't they already have picked Sam up?

I guess they figure if he lied once he is covering for info he knows about the case, and they need the info so decided to arrest him on this charge.

Now I'm really wondering what his involvement is?

Maybe he told them it was the pond where Teresa was put and so they operated on that info. Maybe he is pinning it all on Sam when he was part of the murder...this is getting confusing.

Maybe Sam just asked Ben to be his "alibi" and say they were together doing some undercover work or what we call "off-duty" work - when in reality - Sam and Ben were NOT together and Sam did the deed alone. Just used Ben as his alibi, you know, "Hey, say that we were together working on an undercover basis." Did that make sense?

Hi Concerned, That could well be the case. They didn't always work the same shift but that day they did from what I learned somewhere. lol So they could have been together out of the office.

Have we heard what shift they worked that Wed? Do we know what time she was last seen? It is so hard to put 2 + 2 together without knowing this. If they both worked the day shift and she disappeared at night, why would he lie about that. They must have been on duty when she disappeared for him to lie I think.

Have we heard if Ben has lawyered up?

Yea Less, it makes sense, but would that be serious enough to arrest him? I guess if they could get him to talk it would make him an after the fact witness, right?

I read another post this morning at CTV, written today, saying that the word is Sam called Ben at 4am to have him come and help dispose of the body. Has anyone heard this? Here is a link to that post from Bobbiesangel:

Not sure if this has been posted. It's a blog from a nearby newspaper. And, for the record, I AM NOT the NGACitizen that is posting there. LOL

http://www1.romenews-tribune.com/soundoff/blog/649

Proudnanna on the other board said NGACitizen must be a cop. The defensive way NGA sounds when denying this sounds more to me like a girl who may be , ahem, "dating" (cough cough) a cop.

Bad Susan
