Locked Gate?

OTOH, w a quick glance, gate appears to be chained to prevent opening, but if I'm correctly interpreting the closeup photo of gate, the gate itself has no lock/locking device. In pic Knox posted, a metal chain is wrapped around both sides of gate, but afaik, only one end of chain is placed in padlock's shackle, meaning gate can be opened. So any rando approaching can simply unfurl the chain's loose end, and bingo, he's in like Flynn.
So perp may not have needed secret way in or a padlock key.
Some rural homeowners 'stage' their gates w chains & padlocks during the day (like pic in Knox post).
But at nighttime they put both ends of chain thru padlock's shackle (like pic below) to actually lock to prevent gate from opening. my2ct.
