Letter to Keith Jesperson from Rex Heuermann dated 8/31/23
Transcribed by me. I have kept Heuermanns spelling and punctuation as is.

Keith,
First off I would like to say thank you for your letters & advise. They have been a help & comfort to me. I do understand what you have said and taken it to heart.

Being only a month & half into this, as you know, I have had a lot to think about. Right now I need to get a few things in order which the lawyers are working on.

You were right about letters - I have gotten a number of them - asking for interviews, to be friends, pen pals, and one guy who sent me three etters asking me to write back to add to his "collection of letters".

You are the only person who I have written back to and plan to write to. I know I have gotten into great detail - I am not sure if my mail is not being read. I did have one officer make a comment to me that he knew you were writing to me.

So it sounds like OSP is not such a bad place to be. - Do you have butter for your bread? How is the day to day food - I will admit the food at SCCF is not much to look forward to each day. Also yard is just walking in circles outside.

I do understand what you have told me. Also that timing is important with this process. - I am working out he timing the next court date is 9/27 - as I understand it that is just a conference court date so I do not expect much to happen. I have not even seen the discovery yet at this point.

I am sorry it took so long to write back to you - I know I should of done it sooner.

The main thing I wanted to say was
Thank you
To you & yours for the letters & what has been done for mine.
Thank you
Rex

if been going through social media posts from every club/range on long island. I'm almost certain he was an RSO (range instructor certified through an NRA class). these people act as referees during competitions, so if he wasn't competing he would probably be wearing a hi viz vest. there were two Sunday competitions ("match") noted in the palm pilot agenda.
I saw his "match" notes, but didn't even make the gun club connection. There was a lot of info to take in yesterday, and I skimmed over a lot of it in order to get the whole gist. I'm so glad you caught it. I'd love to know anything else you find.

Great sleuthing!!

I have very peripheral knowledge of gun society on LI, but I know people who are very active in competition shooting out there and have enjoyed going to the range, including Calverton, which had always been known as somewhere you can pretty much shoot whatever you want (meaning types guns, not living things. at least when I was there....) Mill Rd that's mentioned leads into that specific range. if there's anyone else on here that either shoots or knows people who do, start scanning old Facebook posts from shooting clubs or matches. I'm even looking up ones from upstate/greater tristate area/ Massachusetts.

Sometimes we like to predict how perps will actually function in their new homes. Prisons. Especially the ones who we think will get mauled once in prison.

I think RH will actually have "inquiring minds" prison buddies .... giving his a sense of gloating pride ...even in prison!!

Agree. I definitely see him holding court for inquiring minds and acolytes alike, not to mention sifting through the inevitable stacks of love letters from people (sadly, mostly women) who will claim they alone truly understand him.

IMO, he will sustain himself and his reprehensible fantasies for years to come, just as he has for decades, through self-gratifying, masturbatory contemplation of his victims, each and every one of them. Individual flourishes, this murder this way, this long spent on her, that murder another way, different touches for her, ad nauseum. No one who sits before him will walk away feeling clean.

All the years he trolled, being felt, sensed, but remaining unseen, and all the victims he claimed - far more than six, IMO - net out to a tremendous feeling of power, which is its own kind of fetish. He won't surrender that, just adapt in his new environment to keep that feeling. In this way, he reminds me of Ed Kemper.

JMO, and I am devastated for the women and the horrors he visited upon them.

In case anyone else had forgotten this initial article (there is so much to remember in this case)

This article was published a year ago 23 July 2023.
After the 1st search of TARGET RESIDENCE (as it's now known) I read it and was horrified.
No wonder LE went back for a 2nd inspection for a super close look - finding pinholes etc, taking in clever dogs for the Tech sniffing etc.
Heck knows what they have found this 2nd time around !!

I recall at the time wondering if it was salacious & "invented" & exaggerated !!- seems NOT !

IMO: AE should complete the Divorce - change the adult childrens surnames- never return to TARGET RESIDENCE & do the decent thing & find an exit for the Peacock Deal - IMO monetizing murder is disgusting.

Gilgo Beach suspect Rex Heuermann may have killed victim in soundproof room; cops using cadaver dogs to search yard

Cops allegedly found a soundproof room in the accused Gilgo Beach killer’s basement and think at least one victim was killed there, it was revealed Sunday — as police used cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar to scour his back yard.

A former co-worker told The Post that suspected serial murderer Rex Heuermann, 59, once took time off from his job as a Manhattan architect to install a concrete-lined vault at his family’s Long Island house.

It’s not clear if that basement compartment is the one cops suspect could have been a killing chamber or whether it is possibly the space previously reported to hold Heuermann’s up to 300 guns.

But “it’s not just a hidden room — it’s a serious vault,” the ex-colleague said. “It had a huge, heavy-duty safe door. He went and poured new concrete walls, massive amount of concrete to encase this room.”

It was maybe 2 or 3 feet thick,” the former co-worker said.
I wonder if counting the pinholes in a corner of the paneling might give an idea of the number of victims.

Of course, it would not get the earliest ones as apparently he used tape, then switched to thumb tacks to hang the plastic lining in the room.

I'm really curious about the TRG column

T-1, Megan? - Megan was not his first victim so what does this mean?
T-UNK (black) - is he referring to a future possible victim and he will specifically target a black person?
I think we need to look for an earlier Megan. It's not likely Megan Waterman would have been known to him that early. She was only 22 in 2010 and from Maine.

That's presuming he used the same amount of pins in the same rough placement every time and never placed a pin in the same hole, or moved a pin incrementally from one place to another to avoid a tougher section of wood...

MOO

Another things that's strange: He wrote down that he needed to hit the victim in the head or neck to take them down. Why would you need to write that down? It feels as though this doc was written through some ego-driven need to prove how sophisticated and meticulous he is.

The problem is the fluid nature of names. Something I learned from reading Lost Girls but also Ann Rule's Green River Running Red is that most people doing sex work use a name specifically for that work, sometimes several.

If RH knew a sex worker as Megan, chances are it was a work name. We may never know who it is, whether it relates to a victim or someone who, for whatever reason, he didn't get the opportunity or inclination to kill.

He knew the legal names of his victims after the fact because he had their personal belongings and he followed the stories in the press.

If this Megan was a real name of someone who was not a sex worker, and she is still walking around, she had a very lucky escape indeed.

MOO

It's part of the fantasy mechanism that is part of the build up.

He's making it more real by writing it, making it all in sharper focus.

(Not a serial killer, just an occasional writer, for my sins.)

I agree. Is there any additional identifying info related to this T-1 Megan?? I found some of the old 2002 Long Island archived "usasexguide" webpages. I'm sure those who of us who have been researching this case for years will remember how we read that horrible site for clues to LISK's identity. I might try looking at these pages again searching for a "Megan" if anyone thought it would help.

ETA: I just looked at 2 pages... I can't look at any more.

Well, if nothing else from this lawyer's comments, it's nice to finally see someone acknowledging that these two are adults and not children. He has made it clear that they have minds of their own and are not being dragged into anything. MOO.
Talk about a "conflict of interest".

CS's lawyer Vess Mitev got paid $200,000 by Peacock for the documentary and is representing his already client CS who has "development disabilities" who along with mother Asa and sister VH got paid 1 million.

Which of course leads Mitev to claim that his client who has "developmental disabilities" has a "mind of his own".

Sadly CS does not have an advocate who wouldn't benefit personally in decision making.

Throwing this football out there. Do any local gun ranges offer monthly/yearly locker rentals? Did he belong to any hunting clubs specifically in Manorville? Do they have rental lockers there?
John Ray has repeatedly claimed that there's a wall of silence pertaining to those belonging to the hunter's club so he didn't expect any helpful info coming from it even if there was some.

It seems like people find it either more likely or less likely that Rex killed Shannon in light of the new evidence (I have not seen anything posted about how it doesn't impact Shannon's case). I never thought she was his victim and this makes me more sure because planning seems to be his obsession. There's more the Oak Beach residents have a responsibility to report (moo) but I do think she succumbed to the cold water.

I wonder if anyone flipped their position based on the new evidence?

agreed. this is production speak. while this is just conjecture, the snuff film thing keeps coming back to me. Chris Loeb talked about seeing a guy in a mask (gimp mask?) torturing a sw. the gimp mask thing has also come up before.
could it be possible that he was actually producing and distributing this material? I know Tierney mentioned yesterday that none of the women RH has been charged with have been featured in any of the material found yet, but if he recorded himself I doubt it would be digitized. I'm also curious if there was any photo developing/dark room chemicals found.
Maybe I am misunderstanding, but page 20 of this document (I won't post a screenshot in case anyone doesn't want the graphic details) says something to the effect of "Pornographic images accessed by Heuermann include (insert gross stuff here) which notably and largely coincide with how the remains of Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor, and Valerie Mack were discovered."

I took that to mean they have a strong suspicion it is actually the victims in the images?

Check ranges in the Bronx. Thats where his former colleague said he would invite her.

Just some thoughts - John Douglas apparently wrote that mutilation = a disorganized personality type in his book Cases That Haunt Us and RH referenced this in his notes but RH is clearly very organized (see his notes) and he was mutilating prior to the publication of the book in 2000 (Sandra murdered in 1993).
Disorganized in psychiatric terms (I work in a psychiatric hospital) can mean something different than what it means to be a disorganized person. To have disorganized thought processes for instance is a different meaning, usually for someone with a thought disorder or psychosis. Not that he is psychotic, but this could have a different meaning.
