In the aftermath - Please don’t let your children or pets play in the storm water - there are snakes, floating fire ant hills and bacteria (from septic tanks).
Thanks for posting this. It is a pet peeve of mine. I hate it when I see children and adults just out walking around in water that has all what you posted and in New Orleans, bodies were also floating as well as dead animals.

I am again praying for every one who may windup being in the path of another strong monster hurricane.

I know each of you will heed the warnings. They are there for a reason, and that is to keep everyone safe.

Until hurricane Michael roared right over our own home in October of last year, I only worried about dangerous tornadoes being spawned from hurricanes.

Since then, I'm terrified when I see any possible strike zone including south Georgia.

Once again also I'm very worried for our oldest daughter, and oldest granddaughter who's homes were lost in hurricane Michael when it slammed Mexico Beach, Port St. Joe areas.

They both have recently rebuilt, but I've seen there is a chance the hurricane could go across Florida, and then into the Gulf of Mexico which could effect them again. Sigh.

Please be safe every one. My thoughts, and prayers are with you all.

Remember to report any scammers you may see.

We are prepared for Dorian, even got a surprise early leave from work today for the hurricane plus I already have Monday off due to the holiday.

Been so busy with life plus some special projects, outside of that, I've also been doing well as can be. Hello everyone!

Well there you are Ms. Mary. Haven’t seen you in a while. Live your best life! And sprinkle that positivity everywhere. ❤️

Where are all of these people supposed to evacuate to?

Hi sweet KALI!

I imagine they will try to come inland into Georgia, or into the edge of Alabama.

When hurricane Michael came into Florida last year at a CAT 3, iirc, so many came into our area only to have Michael strike us here at over a 100 MPH winds.

But I imagine many will try it again.

Thank you for the great reminders. You are so correct, lone. It's so dangerous, yet time, and time again, I see so many doing it anyway. Ugh!

Also the flood water coming inland will be warm including the bays, and other water outlets.

Florida has already had so many tragic cases recently of deadly flesh eating bateria from warm water.

They are telling everyone to not get into the water in many areas even if they have the tiniest scratch or abrasion... this includes even men who have a shaving burn or a woman from shaving their legs.

So depending on where this monster goes the waters may already be deadly toxic. It becomes much worse with all the toxins that will spill into the flood water areas from this hurricane.

I hope everyone will act responsibly, and not let their children wade through any of the flood water.

Before it subsides, and can be cleaned up it will become more toxic everyday.

We had many become very sick when our county, and surrounding counties were under flood water for over six weeks due to hurricane Alberto in 1994 coming in just sitting, hovering, and spinning out over 2 to 3 feet of rain. This was beyond the many deaths that happened. We also had over 250 coffins come up and were in the Flint River.
All of the flood water became like a raw sewage septic tank.

They say this one is very slow moving too which makes it even more dangerous.

Most of the 65 deaths our area had were due to people driving their vehicle into fast running water.

That's another thing the people involved in this hurricane MUST NOT do. Bridges can be washed out under the rushing water or roads can be washed out underneath. Or have live powerlines.

I hope, and pray everyone affected just uses good common sense to keep themselves safe, and their families, and friends. If they all do that so much tragedy can be avoided.

Hundreds of Florida nursing homes don't meet requirements ahead of Dorian

***Alzheimer's Foundation of American (AFA) has created an emergency preparedness checklist for Alzheimer's caregivers in the case that a storm would strike their area.

Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s President & CEO says “Floridians are bracing for Hurricane Dorian and taking steps to get ready, including families affected by Alzheimer’s, along with standard emergency preparedness steps, such as preparing a ‘go kit’, there are additional, unique needs that someone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s should take into account to help them stay safe. Following a few simple steps will go a long way to help prepare for the storm.”

“Most are individuals who are completely alone in this world,” said Marjorie Broughton, executive director of Meals on Wheels Sarasota. “Aside from making sure they have the food and water they need, we are making sure they are removed or that they are as safe as they can be in their domicile.”

During our EF5 tornado, we relied on old transistor radios, (check batteries), walkie talkies, candles, football helmets, love and prayer. We survived the eye. I ask all to keep those in peril in your thoughts and hearts. It looks like it’s gonna be a rough ride. Florida has taught our other 49 states how to deal with the aftermath of a hurricane. That and how to make a good margarita.

I have a couple portable phone chargers. I'd recommend them to everyone. Mine were gifts but you can actually get a solar portable charger for $25 or so on Amazon. There's still time for delivery!

That's an excellent suggestion! I have 2 because of a game I play on my phone that eats power but in an emergency I'd have over 24 hours of constant use from them. A friend has a solar charger which won't help before and during but would come in handy after when the sun comes back out. Also I've seen chargers that run on batteries too.

Next advisory is at 11 pm Florida time.

From Hurricane Dorian track still northwest, winds hit 125 mph
Dorian is 575 miles east of West Palm Beach, but the center of the track heads to Martin and St. Lucie counties and reflects the chance the storm could take a hard right turn and spare Florida a direct hit.

The latest atmospheric data indicates the hurricane could start its much-anticipated wheel to the north before reaching Florida, which would bring its point of landfall farther up the coast, according to NHC’s Friday evening advisory.

But the hurricane center said models have not been consistent and that the entire east coast of the state remains a possible target for a storm projected to achieve wind speeds of 140 mph by the time it hits land.

Another great idea! The older, non-digital radios have much longer battery power.

And of course, if you plan to stay home find an inner room with no windows and put some supplies there. During Andrew we ran to a walk-in closet and when the roof blew off we went to a powder room. Make sure to have plenty of toilet paper on hand - a neighbor boy came over as he was alone (mom and dad were stranded and very worried!) and I guess the air pressure did something as he had to use the toilet in the middle of everything. It sounds funny now but at the time he was mortified. We all dealt with it just fine. :p

Ugh, is it peak hurricane season already? After our devastation from Sandy, I am always following these storms up the coast. And no, I'm still not home yet. :(

Stay safe, will be watching this one, too.
Sandy was the scariest storm I can remember, and I wasn't even home for it. My worries were spread out - our condo at the Jersey Shore, our home in South Jersey, my son in Brooklyn (but on Long Island during the storm with his in-laws), and my daughter in Manhattan. She actually fared the worst of all, with no power for many days.

And my mom, brother and I were in a plane headed to Florida from Philly airport, one of last planes allowed to leave. That storm was so big, we were over Georgia before we were able to see the ground instead of the spiraling clouds.

I'm sorry @JerseyGirl that you are still suffering the effects from that disaster. There is really no excuse that anyone should still be out of their home due to this.

Florida, now it's your turn and I truly hope it turns away before coming ashore.
