How much would a PI cost?

It wouldn't be cheap. I believe they often start retainer fees around 5k for many PI's, not sure about those who are experienced in missing children. There might be organizations or individuals out there willing to help raise the funds for one if the family wanted. I've seen such an outpouring online of people asking how to help.

Both of the girls are listed on America's Most Wanted website for missing children:

Elizabeth http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=80432

Lyric http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=80431

Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins were last seen riding their bicycles on July 13, 2012. Their bikes were later found near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, Iowa. With little information to go on, :notgood: authorities need your help in bringing Lyric and Elizabeth home safely.

Also....

Two NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers (BK Racing teammates Landon Cassill and Travis Kvapil) will feature photos of the girls at the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. The decals also will include a phone number for the National Missing Children hotline.

Hopefully someone sees the girls faces & calls the tip-line w/ information! I am not a racing fan so I did not catch on at first that their pics where going to be on cars at two separate races.

I must have missed something. Is there a multi-colored van in the mix now?

I think this was from another possible abduction attempt, just referenced as "there have been so many lately!" I've never heard of it being connected to this case.

I wonder if the foot searches focused more on the south side vs north side (more around lake). But since last official sighting (per videos) is north side....

I agree they should call equuasearch or even Klass kids or at the very least hire one of the P.I.'s who specialize in this field as they are out there.

do you know when the last foot search was?

Thanks...I think high visibility for the girls and an emphasis on finding them is maybe the best use of resources at the moment...kind of like that unidentified boy that ICE was looking for a few weeks back...

Can only assume, and certainly hope, that some of the FBI are surveilling those horrible child *advertiser censored* rings and videos for any signs of those young girls..

Honestly I think most people call the pedal powered boats Paddleboats because that is what most manufacturers call them. I grew up in Indiana in a county with 90 natural lakes...never have I heard of them referred to as pedal boats. Now I live in Arizona and they are called Paddleboats here also. I think this is being beat to death. I believe that if they thought it was a kayak or canoe they would refer to it as such.

This is what I have seen in the past when people refer to boats:
*motorboats are moved through the water by a motor
*Rowboats are moved through the water by a person rowing an object in the water
*Paddleboats are moved through the water by a paddle under/behind/in front of the boat which pushes the water in the opposite direction you intend to travel

But at the end of the day it is just Layman's terms I do believe. I have sent an email to the police department to see is they will clarify exactly the type of boat they are looking for.

Of course this is all "IMO"
:moo::banghead:

These missing children have been covered on the news internationially.

That may be too much for the families to pay right now.

There's the $50K reward. Such rewards are supposed to be held in escrow accounts until the conditions for paying them out have been met.

And then both families have had massive disruption to their daily living expenses. I read that Drew Collins has started working a few hours a week as of last week; I can only imagine that he's doing so because of financial pressure.

MCM works at Casey's, which doesn't pay much. DM, last I heard, doesn't have a job and probably can't get one since he's facing trial at the end of August.

The two grandmas (Cook and Weikert) probably have SS and perhaps pensions, but they do not seem to be wealthy. Probably comfortable financially under usual circumstances but these are far from usual times for them.

Psychologically, I doubt either family is ready to give up on LE yet. In cases I've followed, it seems to take around 6 months and often longer before a family is ready to call in a PI.

Also, right now, I am absolutely certain that every vulture out there is circling the families. So-called psychics willing to consult their spirit guides for a fee, so-called PIs, so-called informants... it's really disgusting what happens when the vultures see a vulnerable family.

I know a guy who will be working the pit at the Iowa Speedway. I've left a message for him to ask if he'd be willing to hand out fliers before or after the races. I don't know if he'll have time, his commitment to his team has to come first.

Can't hurt to ask though, so I did.

Isn't this the same guy that had an "apology" video too? in the Luka Magnotta thread...possibly...? It's bugging me...gonna have to go look....

Did you watch the other video. the bald headed guy. His voice changes really creepy. :what:

Do you guys agree that another foot search needs to be conducted in the area again?

There's been debate on this site regarding what police mean when they say "paddle boat". When police say that someone that runs the trail daily saw the bikes and provided an accurate time, some think that a runner means a cycist. When police say that they are looking for a paddle boat, some think that means a pedal boat. Are police and the FBI usually vague, or do they actually mean a runner and a paddle boat? I don't know ... I'm tempted to take what they say as being accurate ... that a runner means a runner, not a cyclist, and a paddle boat means something that has a paddle, not a pedal ... but perhaps the FBI mix up their words or are unable to find the correct words. I sure hope not, but anything is possible.

I promised to leave the paddle boat thing alone but I'll just say thanks Otto for sharing your thoughts on it too. I'd never heard of a "pedal boat" so I learned something new. I do wish LE would clarify.

Related to the cyclist/runner I thought there were both? Neither confirmed by LE though. The cyclist was the guy who swerved to miss the bikes on the path around 12:20ish (I'm not too convinced on the time so I'm going to leave that vague). The runner was the "random stranger" that told Aunt T he might've seen the girls around 2:00 or 2:30. I'm looking for the link now.

ETA: I couldn't find a specific link but going back to the early threads I did see references to both times, and two different people/witnesses to those times.

Not sure what good such a search would do, except to wear out searchers.

I think what would be a more efficient use of volunteer searchers would be to wait until the harvest is in and then ask permission of property owners to allow volunteers to search treelines and shelterbelts.

If they do, everyone should buy stock in Tecnu, those treelines and shelterbelts are usually full of poison ivy.

Welcome to Websleuths! I asked this several threads ago. There must be satellite imaging of vehicles etc around the lake at the time frame the girls went missing. If they can spy on terrorists in the mountains of Pakistan they must have this technology in the US.

I think if they do have any images they don't show anything useful unfortunately.

I think another foot search would be to find bodies. Sorry to say that, but we have to look at reality here. The perp or perps would need a dumping site.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1207/19/ng.01.html

I just read this transcript and IMO Aunt Tammy hits the nail right on the head. Some good points made in the interview are:

1. The family told LE right away about their past and asked them to focus on finding the girls.
2. The girls left no shoes or clothing by the lake to indicate that they had gone swimming.
3. The search dogs followed each individual girl's scent to an area near the forest.
4. There was access to the trail that could have allowed an abductor to take the girls.

Considering LE statistics that about 40 percent of abductors use a weapon, I think it's highly possible that two girls could be abducted at one time. This is a scary thought for me because I would have allowed my own daughter to ride her bike with a friend or a cousin thinking "No one would take two children at once." But the truth is someone would and could if they had the time and opportunity and a sick enough mind.

I hope and pray that these girls are found soon. I can think of three children who have been found alive in recent years, so there is still reason to hope they will be found.
