Nancy Grace and all the other supposed victims advocates over at HLN have become so enamored of the Jodi Arias case and the titillation it holds that you cant get any of their heads out of JA's butt long enough to cover any other cases right now. And IMO it has been that way for some time.

That't true, the Arias case is full of "bombshells", and NG just loves that stuff.:what:

Snip: The memorial is estimated to cost $100,000. First Security State Bank and the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa recently donated $10,000 toward the project.

Then you have the Concert event that said 100% of the proceeds was going towards this.... days later ooopsie we have overhead, once that is met then the rest goes towards the project.
smh

OMG! I just want to apologize to those who I said were wrong about the gazebo being built. Now I get it.:truce:

Because 100,000 dollars is huge and that will make me really rethink this whole project. That money could buy the best detective and put this killer behind bars where he belongs.

That's exactly what I was thinking - it seems that kind of money could be put to more productive use, IMO.

I would like to see a detailed report on where all this money is and going towards if they have materials and labor being donated by the contractors.

Since both girls loved animals, it would be nice to see that $100,000 go to a local animal shelter. Imagine how much good that money would do for those animals. JMO.

Here's Heather's reason for building the gazebo:

"We'd rather not to have to do this, that the girls were home with us and it never happened in the first place," Heather Collins said. "But what are you going to do about it? Something needs to be done. Something big."

One thing that can be done, she suggested, is making the lake, the park and the island a welcoming place, noting the island was always a little foreboding to young children. "Kids were scared. What we want to do is clear it out and make it look friendly," she said.

That is insane...if everyone is donating time and money, it shouldn't cost a dime.

HOWEVER, maybe they are stating the "estimated cost", when it really equals the amount of time and materials value which has been donated???

I just don't get this whole thing...the big push for all this to be done, and all this fundraising for these renovations.

I "get" the whole idea of making the park a happy place, etc...I really do. But like others have said...the family who spoke next to NO words during this entire search/investigation/etc. are the only ones showing their faces during all of this fundraising and "bettering of the community".

Granted, the rest of the family I believe lives in Waterloo...but I haven't seen Wylma, Misty, Dan, Tammy, Vicki even mentioned during any of the fundraising for all these things and I don't believe for 1 second they wouldn't WANT to be a part of a tribute to their grandchildren/daughter.

I'm just gonna say it...something doesn't sit well with me in all this. And to prevent myself from getting a time out, that's all I'm gonna say about it.

It appears Drew is donating his services:

One of the volunteers clearing undergrowth and brush trees for the gazebo site on the island was Drew Collins, Heather's husband and Elizabeth's father, who operates Planetary Tree Service.

IMO, much of the labor has been donated.

Maybe some of the money will go into trust for upkeep on the gazebo?

View attachment 31082I never ever considered it would be that much money, that is nuts.

Whenever you erect something for public use, the cost is much higher.

First they probably have to get structural engineers in to assess the soil. This decides what foundations are used.

That's about $5k just there. The foundation probably at least another $5k, possibly more as everything has to be taken across water including the workers.

Already accounted for at least $10k...then you have to factor in the insurance during construction, the architect who designs it, the materials...

Public monuments (to what, exactly?) are not cheap. Or easy. A nice idea which could just as easily be a little fountain or park bench somewhere.

Actually I would say they could probably double the $100k, before they're done. The City I worked for installed (wait for it) 3 luminous emus, two luminous emu eggs, and a plover on a lamppost, at the cost of $300k. They were immediately torched by the local hoods so had to be dismantled, sent back to the "artist" and recovered with inflammable paint, another $50k no one budgeted for.

I agree they need to put all their time, money and efforts into finding this killer before he kills again. GEEZ

I agree 100% with what you posted . All this memorial talk and no finding of the creeps that did this horrific crime Murder Homocide we need a great tracker of crime's investgating this crime . To many month with outa clue ? It's just not right .Good for you Cindersoot I am glad you spoke out many of us feel that y I am sure . Find e perp's first .The memorial can wait. I can't believe a mother that does not want to know what happened to her daughter how was she abducted and killed makes no sense.

Unless she is being blackmailed? Unlikely, I know, but within the realm of possibilities. :blushing:
:moo:

I my child was kidnapped from a park/lake and the perp still out there, I don't think I could see fit building something at said park that may attract more children to the area.

Heather must know something we don't...:dunno:

LE have never, ever confirmed that the girls got to the lake in the first place, only their bikes.

As she has never asked for details of how Elizabeth died, it seems strange to wish to publicly commemorate something that may never have actually happened. :moo:

God bless you all for keeping up with this case day after day. I had to pull away a bit so I wouldn't end up sitting in the corner. ;)

I pray one day soon the perp will be found and arrested.

I don't (thankfully) know how I would grieve for a murdered child. It is unknown territory for me as it is for most parents. I don't think God gives us instructions for that. How a parent chooses to show his/her grief is a personal choice. Some parents act the way that other people expect them to act. Other parents do not. Although I am not a person who attends church on a regular basis, I do have a deep faith in God. I live in the Bible belt Deep South. It is not uncommon where I live for a person to lay at God's feet a burden he/she cannot bear. Heather has a deep faith in God. She is mourning in a manner that is comforting to her. I have a first cousin who lost her two and a half year old daughter to medical malpractice. She has not moved forward in her grief since the day that child died. She died 27 years ago. This woman grieves every day in a way that would be "expected" of a parent. It is not a good situation. What I'm trying to say is that we don't know how we would show our grief until we had to do so. Hopefully, we never will.
