I agree. If there was an ice cream truck Wylma might have heard, but more than likely the other children would have heard it. Kids are tuned in to hear those ice cream trucks. I do agree with the WebSleuther (sorry I can't remember who said this, but I thought it made good sense) that the girls saw something or someone as they poured their glasses of juice. Maybe the girls saw some other frozen delivery type of vehicle that maybe doesn't specifically sell individual ice cream treats, but might occasionally give some ice cream away to kids hoping to entice parents to purchase food from them. . . "Schwan Food Company" for example. Definitely not sleuthing the local frozen food delivery guy, but if the girls saw a truck and had gotten ice cream from a hypothetical person in the past they might have tried to catch up with the truck to see if might get lucky and be given a treat ? ? ?

Possibly. I just saw a Schwans truck last night, and I haven't seen it on our neighborhood in quite some time. We used to buy from them, but after not buying anything a few times, they quit stopping. They are so expensive!!!

Jason S's drug charges show the same for yesterday as DM's DV case, an order for continuance...talk about pretrial conferences, I've never seen so many before,

Nothing new but it keeps the thread going!

I have a friend who has had his share of problems with the law. He's not into meth, but he's been in trouble quite a few times for poaching deer and one time for growing plants. A couple of years ago, he was on his deer lease with one of his buddies and at the cabin they could hear someone pulling up to the gate. "Bob" randomly aims a gun in the direction of the gate (it can barely be seen from the cabin - heavily wooded area) and fires it thinking it was some other guys who had been illegally hunting on the lease. He does shoot a tree very close to the gate. Turns out the person at the gate was a game warden. Now "Bob" already had a warrant out for his arrest for killing a buck out of season about 8 years ago. As you might imagine, the game warden is highly PO'd, BUT, he doesn't arrest "Bob". The only thing he did was take a big rack that was on the property that were "Bob's horns" and "Bob's" gun. The next day the game warden decides to file charges against "Bob" for shooting at him. Long story short. . . . many pretrial conferences, many, many delays. Even "Bob" was upset about how long it was taking for the case to go to trial. Eventually, the state dropped the case. He was given his shot gun back in the courthouse with shells and allowed to walk out of the courthouse carrying his gun.

"Bob" even asked a local law enforcement officer why didn't they arrest him and put him in jail. He was told by the officer, "We don't want you "Bob". You don't have any money. You don't work. You weigh 300 pounds. It would cost us more to feed and keep you and treat your diabetes than you are worth."

Moral of the story: It's all about the money!

ETA: The game warden would not give "Bob" his horns back. "Bob" is still upset about not getting his horns. His court-appointed attorney refused to continue to represent him to get the horns back and I don't blame him because he would not have gotten a dime from Bob to draw up the paperwork necessary to get the horns.

Yes, they are expensive. They make a good product, but can't afford to purchase from them regularly. Our neighbors purchase from them regularly so I see the truck quite often.

It was a beautiful, sunny day today. Got up to 83 degrees. On my lunch, I went to the bank and then drive around Evansdalee just to be outside (I work in downtown Waterloo). Anyway, as I'm driving around, I tried to find surveillance cameras. I didn't see any, but there must be some near downtown, and maybe by the lake. There has to be more than just the auction house video. It would be ideal if the fire station had them. I know that LE has said that they have video, but don't know what they're looking for. I would really like to know where the video was from, and what it showed.

My tax lady lives at the other end of Lafayette, in Waterloo. She has surveillance cameras. IMO, they are more common than we think. She doesn't live in the best neighborhood, and not in the nicest house on the block.

Keep your eyes open every chance you get to Evansdale.
If you happen to find another camera, maybe we could figure a time for it to have taken pictures of the girls which would coincide with what LE has released.

And let us know if you see any ice cream trucks!:what:

Let's suppose that the children heard an ice cream truck and followed it. Surely the ice cream truck didn't stop and load up the children with their bikes, drive down Maiden Lane, deposit the bikes 400 feet down the Evansdale Nature trail, then drive to Seven Bridges County Park and ... that just doesn't make sense to me. If someone wanted to sneakily kidnap and murder two children, would he really do it with an ice cream truck?

We know that Elizabeth had cycled to the Meyers Lake area in the past because she visited a friend that lived in the area. We also have eye witness reports that she was on Lake Avenue on July 13 ... plus there must be other sightings of the children near Maiden Lane and Meyers Lake for police to release a statement that they have information that the children were in the area of Elmer, Gilbert and Arbutus between 12:30 and 1 PM on July 13.

Otto, it is conceivable that they followed the ice cream truck, which is actually a white van with "Peppy's" graphics on the sides. Hypothetically, the girls know the driver and sometimes they get free treats so they race on their bikes to catch up to him/her at Elmer/Gilbert or Lake/Gilbert. Maybe the driver couldn't stop there, but motioned the girls toward the area near Maiden Lane OR...........

Maybe they catch up to the truck at Meyers Lake parking lot and the driver tells them they'll get free ice cream if they meet him at the treed part of the trail.

Heck, the whole event might have been planned ahead and they were supposed to meet the driver on Brovan, but he/ she led them away from their safety zone.

???
So many possibilities. Driving me batty.:blushing:

Great work! I keep thinking there has to be another camera with video LE needs to match up with the first. Watched a ID murder story last night about woman murdered in her San Antonio condo. It was the bank across the street that gave them the first real break in the case. Showed a white Chevy suburban. Very grainy tape. Just like the girls video. FBI had tried their best to enhance it, but could not enhance it enough to get a license plate. I think whomever did this is on tape... somewhere in Evansdale.

You are not alone Reverie. I am right there with you going batty :blushing:

Could there have been a pair - a driver that lured with the treats and then a second vehicle waiting for them at Maiden Lane?

Thinking of cameras. A picture was posted in a past thread that showed a motion-activated deer camera at 7 Bridges scene. I am thinking that maybe LE has placed these same type cameras near relevant parts of Meyers Lake also. If so, it would be interesting to know if the same person showed up on both cameras. Maybe the perp revisiting the scenes of this crime.

She was having quite a bit of trouble with a horrid sinus infection. . .

Feel better soon Cindersoot! Thinking about you! :seeya:

My sinus problem is getting much better now that the weather is warmer. I missed you guys.

Any new news since I have been imprisioned once again?

DM's DV case has been delayed once again, as has JS's case, per Marilyn and Dr. Know.

We've been speculating that perhaps the girls saw or heard an ice cream truck the day they were abducted and that is why Elizabeth had her purse and the girls were in such a rush on the video. Just speculating, not sleuthing any individual.

O/T: Is anyone keeping up with the case of the 8 y/o stabbed to death in her home in California? I keep peaking at the news hoping to hear they caught him.

You might have already asked a local of Evansdale about an ice cream truck, but I don't think they are very popular anymore, in Iowa anyway. I still think they left so fast because they had plans to meet up with their perp friend.

O/T - They may have. LE caught a man in another town who grabbed a small child. He fits some of the description for this killer but LE has not linked the two cases together yet.

Here is link to the case:
