Only if he forged his mother's name on the change. He either had to have something from the other showing they knowingly transferred the car to 1) Washington and 2) to him, or he had just part of this (note from mom allowing him to re-register in her name in Washington.

Or, he just did what I know some people do and wrote her name (forged it) on the paperwork and the DMV person allowed him to pose as a person with a feminine name. Something is awry there, unless mom did know he was becoming the owner of the car - or had already transferred the title to him (which apparently, public records doesn't show).
I think the idea that BK did not own the vehicle was misreported early by a retired FBI agent. More recently, however, independent sources have been able to corroborate that the vehicle had been registered to BK since 2019 and was re-registered in WA in November 2021 in his name.

I think re-registering the vehicle in Washington State shortly after the murders was just a coincidence.

For non-residents including students, WA law requires any vehicle driven in WA for more than 3 months (regardless of non-resident) must be registered and licensed in WA.

And if you move to WA, you must license your vehicle in Washington within 30 days of moving to this state.

After the second stop, he HAD to have known something was up, no? I’m not sure about your question. I can only hope they didn’t do something illegal.
Is it illegal to pull people over on the highway for false pretenses? I don't know the law in Indiana but I would guess maybe LE did not expect this law enforcement" source " to go blabbing about it - if it turns out to be an issue - looks like its the blabber's fault. It also looks bad that LE cannot get their story straight between the Indiana LE and FBI. Too many conflicting stories about the stops. They need to just button it up. Just IMO

I agree. Almost every driver on a metro interstate is following too closely in my opinion. I do not personally know anyone that has ever gotten a ticket for following too closely. Since I am almost 60 years old, I know quite a lot of people.
I don't know anyone that has been pulled over for following too closely.

Why? I would think PA plates would be better than ID or WA.
I agree with that. Only exception is if he did a lot of thinking and determined that they have already run the report of Elantras with WA registration. They wouldn't detect the vehicle added after that date. IMO

I’d rent my house out and use that money to rent a place close to the trial area. Then move back home after it’s over.
I wonder if their neighborhood association in PA allows for the rental of homes? I know that many of the association communities in our region of the country don't allow rental of properities. If they do allow rentals, then this might be a good option for them.

Can we stop the conversation about the covert traffic stops in Indiana? It was a ridiculous theory. And LE wouldn't endanger other LE that way. They were really just traffic stops because Bryan is a bad driver.

Snipped: The sheriff's department also said there was no information at the time on the suspect in the Idaho crimes or specific information on the white Hyundai Elantra.

I thought it was a ridiculous theory as well, but seems that perhaps the FBI did order the stop…
