PUBLICIZING the ELANTRA SEARCH. PIC on HIWAY BILLBOARDS?
.... They need highway billboards with a photo of the white Elantra asking WHO (IS SUSPICIOUS) and who drove THIS VEHICLE....

Personally I think this perp practiced before his King Rd massacre.
snipped for focus @Marie A
Are ST. or FED. highway message boards (aka electronic traffic-condition signs, also used for Amber Alerts, "road work, 1 mile ahead," etc.) capable of displaying a pic of a car?

(Maybe I don't get out of the cave enough, but I don't recall seeing any pix on them. Plenty of flashy images on PRIVATELY OWNED elec. billboards, for businesses, like car dealerships, casinos, "gentleman's clubs," etc.)

Before this massacre, did this Perp practice to enhance some skills? YUP, sure did, imo jmo moo.

I'm not 10ofRods, obviously, but our best hope is that the killer's DNA can be found apart from any mixtures. There are real problems with DNA mixtures.

The fact that a suspect's alleles appear in a mixture doesn't mean that person contributed to it. The alleles may have come from some combination of other people who, between them, have all the allele types in the suspect’s profile.

You can read more about this, and a rather interesting alphabet soup analogy, here.

Police just need to find him with the DNA IMO. Then they can protect the community, and build a case for prosecution.

Sometimes I think the Elantra dropped off the perpetrator. Just the way police talk.
In my head, the Elantra was parked in King st up the other side, and the perp walked in the rear boundary of the house from the no though road.
I don't think the perp went through the front boundary. JMOO.

I feel this murder was done for effect. There is no revenge. AMIOO

Ive just seen photos of police taking security cameras. Also K9 units but I cant post them here as there is no source origin.

Very much on the same page. I think this person is an "aged out" college student. Someone who likely pretends to be in grad school but in fact didn't finish undergrad. Pretends to have a scholarship or financial aid, but has some other revenue stream, likely including money from mom or dad who would prefer he stay at school. Is living in some form of student housing without university permission or knowledge (happens all the time). May have had some trouble with the law, but mostly has not been caught as his life of petty crime progresses to increasingly serious crime. I would not be surprised if he was eventually linked to other crimes in Moscow, perhaps going back to 2015. I think he's 25-28 years old and is known to be difficult, volatile and has brittle relationships.

I think this person may not have friends, but is living amongst people. I agree that the killer is mostly working out the gym, fantasizing, listening to music, eating other people's food, etc.

I am SO enjoying everyone's posts today (this thread has been awesome from the beginning). I'm about to go out and run errands, but am spellbound by everyone's takes and will catch up later today!
We are assuredly following the same trail, crumbs…and assessment. Beautiful summation, bringing visualization to the forefront. I see the faceless killer, carrying about as you described. JMOO Be safe out there, and check back in for new updates when you’ve returned.

New bar footage photo released.

i'm sorry, I need my <<rolling santa>>. Cuckoo for coco puffs, rushing to post it first while lamenting that it was leaked. <<eyes stuck in rolled position>>

"Coffindaffer critiqued the release of the footage and warned it can hinder the investigation as multiple outsiders attempt to solve the case themselves.

'As feared, as time goes by, evidence, including video will continue to be leaked,' Coffindaffer wrote on Twitter. 'Whether for money or attention or whatever the motive, it is not right and will not help LE in their investigation. Don't we all want this case solved?'"

So they have a list of the white Elantras whose owners registered them for on-campus parking for a four year period, along with the license plate numbers.
From the article -

Partially redacted public records obtained by Fox News Digital show 90 white Hyundai Elantras have been registered for campus parking between the start of the fall 2018 semester and December 2022.

In the "primary contact" field, many were left blank, however the document included plate numbers for all but one of the cars.

and they must have had that list for weeks and worked through that as a top priority ( Dec 7th was date of LE's public appeal for Hyundai sightings)

“Personal” effect. Yes. Agreed. Not vengeance or vendetta. JMOO

After all…practice makes perfect. JMOO

Not disputing what you're saying, but thinking about the minds of individuals. Why in the world would more than one person be involved in a murder unless it was for a financial reason, i.e. stealing? I just cannot fathom what would motivate a mass murder group effort. If several are aware, what mindsets have no conscience/
Religious reasons. Other ideological reasons

While it's true that not all hunters of non-human animals are killers of human animals, there is a correlation between animal cruelty and human violence, per the FBI: The Link Between Animal Cruelty and Human Violence | FBI: Law Enforcement Bulletin

Now, granted, that article is about companion animals, but for some of us, the idea of animal cruelty is not specific to species. And IMO JMO from what I know about hunting, the skills required to field dress and prep a dead animal are pretty brutal (evisceration, bleeding out, etc.), so I could see how a wanna-be killer of humans might practice on non-human animals first, and perhaps that is why some theorize that this killer is a hunter. That's just IMO MO IDK ICBW.

I would say that it's the other way around, in this case, and it's more like this hunter is not really a hunter, he's really just a killer in training, and he's using animals until he graduates to humans. But I did look it up, and hunters do sometimes kill an animal with a knife (not sure what I can link here, so just using this one from npr: When We Hunt, Do We Murder?).

IMO JMO I think it's fair to consider that the killer may or may not be a hunter, but IMO the skills developed during hunting could aid a future killer of humans in their quest, and just presenting the other side of the argument for consideration.

edited to correct a couple of redundant maybes and to clarify a point.
I am a great lover of animals, but I also know (and love) many hunters. Someone would injure my dogs or horses over my dead body, but I have shot at (and missed) a coyote that was using my chickens as a dinner buffet and bit one of my dogs. I'm also alot more comfortable with hunters who eat what they kill than I am those who hunt for trophies - even though both are legal. I suppose I am a study in contrasts. :)

One thing I found fascinating and unexpected about the FBI bulletin is that only 16% of offenders seem to start by hurting animals. That it's apparently more common for someone to start by hurting humans and then hurting animals later. I was also appalled to learn how many abusive spouses injure companion animals, and how often their children see it.

We have all read about serial killers who mistreated animals, but I've never read that it was thought to be practice for killing a person. And, as someone said earlier, animal anatomy just isn't at all comparable to human anatomy. I certainly haven't done an exhaustive study, but I don't recall reading any serial killer profiles that stated the person was an avid hunter and that hunting preceded their graduation to human prey. So, I have doubts about the link between hunting and situations like this.

Not to beat this more, but the thread closed.

If they didn't already have their weapon or didn't want to part with their own, nor have it traced back somehow, then hopefully they were a dumb criminal, and yes, went to Wally. They have the best security cameras in the U.S. I do believe.

Wally's are notorious for catering to their regions.

IMO,use positive reinforcement. LE can start handing out 20, 50 and 100 dollar bills for pertinent information regarding the murders. The more reliable the info, the higher the dollar amount. Money talks. Let’s think outside of the box.IOW, provide an incentive to come forward. Moscow PD will have lines of potential for miles and miles.
How about if they give them a choice of 20 years for accessory to murder or a deal for immunity for their testimony in convicting the killer?

Would that be incentive enough for these bright young scholars?

I just checked her Twitter and she's trying to defend having leaked it, which she says is a warning to those who have videos like this to not leak it. Sigh...

Thankfully. Most could not even attempt this. We wouldn’t sleep at night if this was a “soup du jour” type of thing. JMOO.
and vice verse, I'm tight with an EMT that is great saving people but has fainted when getting his own blood drawn. Biggest point imo , food/hunting blood is totally different than human blood, taking a human life seems to be a depraved person whether they were a butcher, chef, or hunter.

My bet it is at the bottom of a lake somewhere. Isn't there a lake in that town they all came from Couer d Aline (probably misspelled). I know there is in Washington and Oregan.
JMO

I think the perpetrator has the car stored. This is all part of his fantasy. The car is a form of trophy. The car is kept somewhere isolated in a garage, or away from the house in a workplace or storage unit. The perpetrator only brings the car out for criminal activity. It maybe unregistered, even have false VIN.
The gas station car is stock standard. Its only identifiers are dark tinted windows and possible modified rear window antenna which could be white noise in the frame from IR or reflection in my opinion.

The type of car, no decals or identifiers with dark window tint to mitigate camera capture of the occupants suggests premeditation in my opinion only. This car has been chosen and modified for police evasion IMOO. Medium term pre meditation IMOO. Not a crime of passion JMO.

I think the car holds more persnal value to the perp now than ever in my opinion.

Do you know why the top ones are pink highlighted?

JUST MY THOUGHTS & OPINION:

So, in the meantime the killer must acclimate back into local society. Hiding in plain sight, standing next to the oblivious at the grocery store, or picking up a pizza. A crime of this complexity, mass, and magnitude stays with him every single moment. He’s good at compartmentalizing, but that’s a process. He’s quieted the monster (for now). If he closes his eyes, the scene plays out every single step, lunge, and move - on an endless loop. If he picks up the knife, he’s mentally transported to the violent visuals, struggles, and actual emotions he experienced during that outing. It’s absolutely Bone-chilling to know that right now, as I express these thoughts and hit these keys…he’s out there. Living. Doing similar things as the rest of us. And doing not so similar things as well. JMOO.
