That is interesting. I wonder why it is so long...toxicology results? We have no idea how he died, major silence on that.

I think March 12 is in line with what they were saying back in December, that it would be around three months.

There are a lot of things that can influence how long a post-mortem report takes. Could be the testing, could be there were delays because of case loads at the morgue or the lab, could be they had to consult a secondary specialist (forensic anthropologist, forensic pathologist, an expert in estimating time of death, for example), or send samples to a second lab (if they needed specialized testing at the university, from the FBI, etc.) Those are just examples; I don't have any information that any of it came into play. I remember one case I followed where the final report was delayed because the person who was responsible for finishing and validating the official report was about on maternity leave and they hadn't hired a temp.

Justin says in his report that police say, "Lori heard the shots fired, but drove off in Charles' rental car with her kids."
This version of the story has always bugged me. If she were outside and only "heard" the shots, she wouldn't know who was actually shot. She wouldn't know if Charles, who is supposedly in a rage, disarmed Alex, shot him and is now coming after her. She wouldn't know if her brother is OK. So as she drove off, why didn't she call 911?

That was my interpretation. Doesn’t look like they are rethinking the original self-defense conclusion. I’m not clear on what “open” means if they’ve decided it’s self-defense. They said again today the only reason the case is still open is because the kids are missing. I don’t get it, but I’ve been unimpressed and puzzled w/the way they’ve handled the investigation from day one.
That's the same thing Chandler PD said before, that they are only keeping the case open because of missing kids investigation. I am not impressed with their investigation whatsoever. From what I gather, Alex and Lori's stories don't even exactly match on whether Lori was still in the home when shooting took place.

That's a new version that I haven't heard before. What about the one where she came out of the kitchen when shooting took place? And you are exactly right. If she heard the shots fired, why would she drive off instead of immediately calling 911? Like you said, for all she knew, Charles got the gun from Alex and shot him?

I feel for those poor people. Worried sick over their grandkids and freezing their tails off while throngs of camera’s and microphones welcome them. I hope they get to have a quality sit down w/LE while they’re there if the kids don’t turn up tomorrow.

If those kids don’t turn up, I suspect they’ll be an essential part of what goes down in a courtroom that we don’t get to hear about... at least from officials.

I‘m also guessing there will be interviews soon, if not tomorrow evening, then soon, with the Woodcocks, regardless of what happens.

Actually, I’m going qualify that a bit more. If the kids do not appear, and law enforcement has anything stronger than what the Woodcocks are already aware of, that implies the kids are deceased, that they share with them tomorrow... well, in that case, I expect absolute silence from them, for days or weeks.

And I figure that the reporters would probably respect it and give them space. The primary reporters on this case seem to have quite a bit of integrity and kindness.

But I don’t expect more info. I expect there to be two reasons for their presence - optimism on one hand, custody proceeding on the other.

MOO, of course.

I just hope everyone prepares themselves though, tomorrow may come and go and we find nothing out. I don't want people to get so worked up about finding something out tomorrow and finding out nothing and making themselves sick. These things can take absolute ages and ages.

Per Chandler PD — by statute the case fits 2nd-degree murder but since it's ruled as self-defense that is a justification. At this time, it's a homicide. #fox10phoenix

At this time. At this time. At this time.

I just had to point out the wording here. It implies it could change.

Nothing about what I've read says Chandler LE believes the story they were told. But Alex is dead and even if they think they could prove he shot Charles in cold blood, it's a moot point because he can no longer be tried.

It is interesting that they're keeping it open because of the children's case. I wouldn't think there was a connection...but I've wondered that before.

She bolted, like she does. Maybe it didn't really matter to her who was shot.

JJ's Grandparents have standing for custody of JJ, due to biological ties. But, they have zero rights for custody of Tylee. Mr. Ryan, Tylee's father is dead.

I guess that the State of Idaho is stepping in for Tylee, but what are the grounds? There is no evidence of abuse or murder. Just that a 17 year old girl is gone. And Lori never reported her as missing.
