He was apparently a bright student with a clear interest in social justice and criminal law before he turned the gun on himself Thursday afternoon.
He was most recently registered as a graduate student pursuing a masters degree in sociology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He apparently had transferred there after being enrolled for the same courses at NIU from at least 2006 up until the spring of 2007.
Just before he left NIU, Kazmierczak's 58-year-old mother died in the fall of 2006 after suffering from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, a degenerative disease, according to obituaries from the time and ALS memorial Web sites.

I'm not so sure. He's posts refer to himself as Jim Schaefer. Unless this kid has multiple personality disorder I don't think this is the same kid.
That's a heaping dose of self-pity, but he doesn't sound like what I imagine someone ready to go on a shooting rampage would sound like.
If these are Steve Kazmierczak's pages, how come he goes by "James", "Jim", and "Jimmy" in them?????
Also, the last blog on the page was posted at 4:40 PM yesterday. The shootings are said to have occurred shortly before 3 PM...
