I'd like to know what they meant to convey. I'm not convinced it was a mistake.

My feelings too.
That would be quite a mistake to make! If not some truth how did it even come up? I just think the leak was done in error, too soon. But I still think it was a valid leak.

I hope everyone following this case has an opportunity to view the show.

After mention of the possible Tenn connection by MK, it appeared to me Spr Carter was genuinely caught off guard about that because (paraphrasing) he said he wasn't aware of the Tenn lead and went on to stress they were looking for tips nationally. When asked about progress solving the case, he said although they appreciated all the tips already received, he sort of shrugged then said "this is why we're here".

Both Libby's sister and Abby's mom mentioned the possibility that after "down the hill", Libby fought the perp, possibly to protect Abby, who might've been injured. And that the girls stayed together even though one might've had an opportunity to escape, as has been stated in the past.

MP agreed the suspect appeared to be overdressed considering the warm Feb day. Thought he may have arrived by bicycle or motorcycle.

They also spoke very highly about their trust and confidence in both LE and the investigation.

It was an excellent interview I thought. No insinuation whatsoever that LE is building a case against anyone. Cpr Carter and the family members are appealing to the public for tips to solve the case, much like by their appearance last month on Dr Phil.

BBM.

In fact, it seemed just the opposite. They don't know WHO or WHERE BG is, and are still actively seeking tips.

This is the first time I've heard LE acknowledge that we're dealing with a possible serial here. Who could forget that first press conference, when they said they didn't think there was any danger to the community?

Wouldn’t it be good if by the family trying to get exposure in Tennessee and a sheriff accidentally posting they were searching for the suspect there, that they actually caught BG?
Stranger things have happened.

I always wondered if the FBI could gather more information from the voice recorded about the accent. I grew up in England and small areas have specific accents. I live in the USA now and i know accents are located in larger areas but maybe the FBI can figure out a defining accent to give a better idea of where the guy has lived.

They've suggested serial killer before when they warned the next victim could be your mother, sister or brother.

(Not the exact words but I do remember it included males -- we discussed the implications of males being possible victims.)

If I'm seeing the same guy he has blue eyes? Do we even know if that's real anymore, the "not blue eyes" thing?

Right. And I am confused about the current status of the “NOT blue eyes” deal so I don’t know if it still a thing. Never really understood it anyway. Did it mean a witness said his eyes were brown or green or grey but definitely NOT BLUE ?

One of the references I saw in MSM said "darker than blue", just to add more confusion.

ETA: Add link to quote from August article.

Police say the man is between 5’6” and 5’10” and weighs between 180 and 220 pounds. The suspect is described has having reddish brown hair and eyes that are darker than blue.

Perhaps if there was more on the tape. The "down the hill" doesn't seem to be enough to say one way or the other. Some people on here claim that it's a southern accent. I've lived in the south for 40 years, however, and it doesn't sound southern to me. Sounds more like my midwestern family members' accents. Linguists generally need several sentences of dialouge before they're able to make clearer judgments. There are certain letters and sounds that help distinguish regional dialects-most notably the letters "r" and "g" (at the end of a word, not the beginning) and BG's phrase does not include these.

Speaking of confusion. . .

Wouldn't it help the investigation if ISP admitted there may be some confusion about the "facts" in this case? I think it would be very helpful if a press release were issued that cut through all the confusion and updated the public. Sort of a LE version of "what we know so far." Can anyone think of a reason that ISP would avoid that approach?

It seems that every interview produces some sort of inconsistency. Maybe they never expected folks like us to examine every statement with microscopic attention? Maybe the info on the official "wanted" poster is all the information they think the public needs to help find BG?

That was my thought as well. And I could be wrong but I picked up a “Sorry/Not sorry” vibe in the retraction. MOO of course.

this is too crazy. I couldn't believe my ears when Carter said there were no witnesses. Could he have been speaking about witnesses to the murders themselves? He sat on the set of Dr. Phil a few weeks ago as the witness description was discussed and didn't contradict the statements being made by MP. Either the sketch came from a witness or it didn't. Anybody ?????

I took this as no witness to the actual crime but it WAS worded really strangely.

My personal experience, eyes change color. My sister was so angry one time that her eyes literally turned demon-like. Eyes went from hazel to black...
I’m shocked they ever put that comment out there. Especially since people can wear colored contacts etc.

Right! And how close a person would have to be to look directly into someone’s eyes to be able to say with certainty that they were a certain color? Or in this case, NOT a certain color.

Part of my job is doing positive verification with photo ID/Passport and I have to look closely at eyes to see if they match what is stated on the photo ID. And what some people call blue I would say is grey, or even closer to green than blue. Unless eyes are brown I have found it can be difficult to determine a color on some eyes.

I accept that it was a total misunderstanding from the Bledsoe County Sheriff's office. If a suspect has already been jailed, their appearance on the NBC morning show was meaningless. Much like their appearance on Dr Phil, while some believed a case was being built against DN. Each time in my opinion Carter and the families were genuinely asking for the public's help in solving the case.

Right. If a suspect has already been jailed the show was meaningless. We would know, I hope, if a suspect has been jailed. That still doesn't mean it was a mistake.
