Mother, boyfriend indicted in missing child case from 2019

Lyons was the only person publicly named as a suspect in the case. IMPD Deputy Police Chief Kendale Adams said Lyons is in touch with an attorney and they hope he will surrender soon.

I must say I had lost faith in ever finding out what happened to Baby Amiah and justice ever coming to those who caused her death. A great and gentle reminder that we don't always know what is going on behind the scenes with LE and any particular case.

I sincerely hope they can recover her remains so she may be laid to rest properly.

According to Fox 59, Marion County police arrested Amber Robertson on Saturday and charged her with child neglect resulting in bodily injury. The charge is connected to the disappearance of then 8-month-old Amiah, who hasn’t been seen in three years.

A Marion County grand jury indicted Amber Robertson after she “knowingly placed her 8-month-old daughter Amiah Robertson in a situation that endangered her life or health, and/or ‘abandoned or cruelly confined’ the girl, and/or deprived her of ‘necessary support’ which resulted in serious bodily injury,” court records state.

Are we allowed to share social media posts that are from verified media (not directly from the news station but from the account of the reporter?). Seeing comments from someone associated with the Fox59 post that they do not know which child the arrest is connected with.

According to Amber's FB profile, she's had 2 additional children since Amiah's disappearance (based on the age of the older one, it seems like she was likely already pregnant when Amiah went missing?)
Do we know how many children Amber had since baby Amiah?
I thought Amber was older, didn’t realize she’s only 23 years old.

Amber Robertson, 23, was arrested by Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies on Saturday and charged with neglect in the case of her missing daughter, Amiah. Robertson first reported the 8-month-old girl missing in 2019. Authorities have yet to locate her.

Robertson is facing four preliminary felony charges, according to local news station WTHR. These include neglect of a dependent and neglect resulting in serious bodily injury. Robertson's boyfriend and longtime suspect in the case, Robert Lyons, was also charged with neglect in the case as a result of a grand jury indictment, but authorities have so far been unable to find him.

"At this point, we still have not found the body," prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement, according to WRTV News. "If we're in a position where we are able to locate the baby...nothing precludes us from adding additional charges. The charging information very clearly lays out the theory that was presented in the sense that, if you have care of a child and you assume that responsibility, then ultimately you are responsible for what happens with that child—and I think the charging information and the grand jury indictment reflects that."

The case will go to trial with several witnesses expected to testify, including the babysitter, Browning, being listed as a grand jury witness. The most severe neglect charge carries a maximum sentence of 16 years, the two level five felonies carry a maximum of 6 years and the level 6 charge includes a range of 6 months to 2.5 years.

[...]

Mears disclosed during Monday’s news conference that the grand jury returned two “no bills,” meaning members of the grand jury didn’t find enough probable cause to support those charges. As grand jury proceedings are confidential, Mears couldn’t disclose the nature of those charges.

[...]

The prosecutor said the grand jury convened last week, although the prosecutor’s office and IMPD had been building toward a grand jury case as early as January. He described the investigation as a “monster” of a case with many witnesses to interview, a number of locations to search and a mountain of physical evidence to examine.

[...]

“I think any time you get people under oath, and you bring them in to testify and they understand the consequences of not providing truthful information, certainly it has a tendency to give the fullest account of what occurred,” Mears said. “That’s always helpful when you’re interviewing witnesses or people who are potentially reluctant to cooperate.”

[...]

Robertson and Lyons had the option of telling their side of the story to the grand jury, although Mears couldn’t say if they had testified.

According to online court records, Amber Robertson is due in court Tuesday for an initial hearing. She remains in custody on a $200,000 bond.

Amber says Robert took baby Friday afternoon to babysitters. Babysitter says he never showed up. On the day of Amiah's disappearance, Browning & other witnesses saw Lyons leave the house with the baby at 1:15pm. He was driving a maroon 1996 Isuzu Rodeo in poor condition. He was near Rockville Road & Mickley Avenue between 1:30 & 8:30pm. He stayed on the southwest side of the city until 10:00pm., then returned to Amber without Amiah. Amber was initially unconcerned because Amiah was supposed to be with Browning at her house to spend the night; however, she had not been brought to Browning's home & the child was never seen again. It wasn't until the next morning that Amber found out her child wasn't at the babysitter's home, & Lyons "taunted" Amber about Amiah's whereabouts. Amber later said he told her he would take her to Amiah if she went with him alone, but she didn't know what to do because she was afraid of him. On March 16, Amber called the police & said that she & Lyons had argued about her whereabouts & he had struck her with his car. He was arrested for battery. This was the first time authorities had heard Amiah was missing. At first, for unclear reasons, the police were led to believe she had last been seen on March 14 & was in immediate danger. Within a few days they learned she had actually been seen on March 9. On March 19, authorities announced they believed Amiah was in "extreme danger".

9/9/22 Update: Amber Robertson, mother of Amiah was arrested on Saturday, 9/9/22 for 4 counts of neglect. 2 counts of neglect of a dependent with deprivation (F5 & F6), 1 count of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury (F3) & 1 count of neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury (F5). And indicted on 9/12/22. The indictment alleges Robertson "cruelly confined Amiah and/or deprived (her) of necessary support" & "deprived (her) of necessary food, water or sanitary facilities." Robert Lyons, Amber's then-boyfriend, is listed as a co-defendant in the case. Sources told WRTV Sunday that they were searching for Lyons. He is wanted on a warrant.

FINALLY!

I’m afraid the mother will get off Scott free in exchange for testimony against the boyfriend. Sigh, I guess it’s more important to get the likely perp off the streets but IMO mom knows exactly what happened and chose to keep silent.
