Which makes it even more strange that he, as a Marine, would be dating a woman some 20 years his senior. Methinks he has some major mommy issues.

DD is a Marine and there is no shortage of women and men who fawn over them, especially right out of boot camp. They are in excellent physical condition and nice on the eyes. ;)

I'm thinking sugar mama type situation. Maybe an older lady gave him financial security. mooo

That was stated in one of the early articles from yesterday. I'll see if I can put my fingers on it.

Convicted Sex Offender Charged In Murder Of Woman In Hammond, Suspected In 6 Other Deaths

Vann apparently only wanted to discuss the Indiana cases because the state has the death penalty and he wants to be executed for his crimes, the sources told [CBS reporter Brad] Edwards. [Hammond Police Chief John] Doughty would only say Vann “was looking for a type of deal with the prosecution.”

Huh ! That means the information in the article earlier this morning was completely backwards. If Indiana has the death penalty, then the above article would be the correct one. The CBS article is probably the accurate one.

If he wants to get the death penalty.........I'd say he's on a pretty good path to get there.

If this is true, it didn't last too long. The wive's son was on CNN earlier today saying how she lived in squalor while married to him. The son begged his mom to leave DDV, he was a dirtbag/weirdo, and come live with him instead so she "can eat and be comfortable."

He said it wasn't till he was caught for the rape in Austin that she filed for divorce. Her son admitted that she loved DDV very much and her son never understood why.

It should be noted, her son was very, very committed to having the anchors say he wasn't the son or the stepson of DDV. He didn't want anything to do with him during the phone conversation stating that he never had good feelings of the guy. Made a public plea to APD to check past cases DDV could be a part of, especially those that have to do with prostitution.

. . . but the segment was much longer. I believe they skimmed 5 minutes off this conversation. Maybe the full bit will be up at a later date?

Suspected serial killer's confession prompts two-state search for more bodies
Published October 21, 2014
FoxNews.com

The bodies were found in and around abandoned homes in Gary, a once-thriving steel town that has struggled with crime and poverty for decades. Given Vann's chilling indication of more bodies, and Gary's abundance of abandoned homes, the search for more victims could be lengthy.

“We have 10,000 abandoned buildings and can only account for five that were the location of these bodies,” Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson said. “Do the math.”

I'm just catching up on the news for this story, so sorry if some of what I have posted has been mentioned before. I found this comment interesting:

What states has he lived in that do not have the death penalty? Illinois? Looks like he was in Indiana in 1994/1995. Moved to Texas in 1995, got married and was in the marines. Separated from wife in 2000. He lived in Northwest Indiana in 2004 and moved back and forth between Texas and Indiana until he went to prison in Texas in 2009. Was released from prison in July 2013 and has lived in Gary, Indiana for the last year or so.

Illinois doesn't have it, and given how close Chicago is to Gary, maybe he crossed the state line a few times?

Bumping for a general timeline. Sstarr Found NC arrest was for driving violations

10,000 abandoned buildings? That is going to take a hell of a lot of effort to get through...if they do so. The fact he confessed could be an indication of remorse or guilt. He may yet admit to more, I guess we will find out in the near future.

The fact that he confessed to this many is reported to be a bargaining chip in trying to get a deal. The haven't really said what type of deal, but I suspect it may be related to the death penalty.

Just beginning to read the Affidavit :

DV contacted AH on Oct 16th bit couldn't get a babysitter. Contacted her again on the 17th.

That just doesn't make sense to me. If he was looking for the death penalty, why not confess to crimes in Texas? He would get there much faster.

Ten years ago, Vann doused himself and his girlfriend with gasoline in Gary, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Vann wrapped his left arm under the woman's throat, held a lighter in his right hand and threatened to set them both on fire.

He flick-flick-flicked at the lighter. But it wouldn't light. He ranted to police that he wanted to die.

<snip>

Vann was convicted 10 years ago of misdemeanor residential entry, records show, after Hamer said someone called police in 2004
about a suspicious person walking down the street with a gas can. It could not be immediately determined why Vann was convicted of only a minor offense. When officers approached Vann, he said Vann suddenly doused himself with gasoline and fled to a nearby home. He ran inside, came out with his arm around a woman's throat and poured gasoline on her.

“I'll light both of us up and kill us both,” Vann told the first officers to encounter the couple.

Do we know when in 2000 he left Austin? Could he be connected to the disappearance of Shawnta Garrett? http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/garrett_shawnta.html

He was convicted of aggravated rape in 2009 from a 2007 case, the Austin Police Department said in a statement. After serving five years in jail, he left for Indiana in June 2013, police said.

Vann is not a registered sex offender in Austin.

This predator had gotten away with abusing women (^^ and the Gary, IN dousing GF with lighter fluid incident)---even when he was "caught" in two states doing just that.

Well..........as hard as it is to believe.......maybe he didn't kill anybody in Texas. I agree with you, confessing to murders in Texas would get you into the express lane for death row.

I think a bunch of these news media outlets are beginning to get the facts all jumbled up. I'm seeing contradictions in these news stories all over the place. Case in point: I posted earlier this morning from a link that said all seven women had been killed in the last seven months. I just found another article that said all seven women had been killed in the last two months...?? ..... Now I don't know which one is accurate.

The article I linked earlier today has been completely revised, and the time frame was removed.

I think this story is moving too fast for everyone to keep up.

Or maybe he hadn't planned to get caught yet, but since he did, he took it as a sign to come clean. And since he was caught in Indiana, that's what he went with. If he was caught in Texas, maybe he'd have spilled the beans in Texas.

In Austin, TX case, he served only 5 years for a similar attack (to his last attack) on a prostitute: he attacked, strangled, said he could murder the victim, raped and then released her:

<snip>

The woman told police that she went to Vann's apartment, where he asked if she was a police officer. After she told him no, he knocked her down, strangled her, hit her several times in the face and told her he could kill her. He then raped her. Vann allowed the woman to leave and she called police the next day.

<snip>

Vann is registered as a sex offender in Texas, where the Department of Public Safety listed his risk of attacking someone again as "low." He did not register in Indiana.

Q: Why was he listed as a low risk offender when he strangled the victim?

A: IMO, BC she was a sex worker, that's why.
