How about this for a possible match? Annabelle went missing some time before June 15, 1982 from near Lima, Ohio. A short drive south on I-75 to Dayton, then west on I-70 would take you to where this unidentified woman was found in December 1982.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Annabelle was last seen residing with her ex-husband, Robert Ludwig, and three children at their home in Cridersville, Ohio approximately June 15, 1982. This area borders Auglaize County, in Northwest Ohio.

Annabelle and Robert were married in 1960, had first divorced in 1977, after a turbulent marriage which included separations, divorce proceedings, and extramarital affairs of both parties.

Annabelle then married a "Smith" for a month and then returned to residing with Robert Ludwig in 1978 and moved from Mt. Cory, Ohio / Hancock County to Cridersville, Ohio / Allen County. Family members, court documents, law enforcement reports and witnesses verify that Annabelle and Robert had a turbulent coexistence and Annabelle had a tendency to leave the residence / family without notice for periods of time (days - weeks) but then return the same way.

Annabelle was involved with other men and was a substance abuser. Prior to her disappearance, Annabelle had been involved with a man who departed Ohio in 1980-1981 and moved to Florida for several years and returned in late 1980's.

Annabelle had made statements that she wanted to leave to go to Florida with him, but did not at the time the man departed Ohio.

Just prior to her disappearance in 1982, Annabelle mentioned receiving a correspondence from this man, and was going to leave to go to Florida. After this point, family advised Annabelle just was not there anymore. Family advised it was normal behavior for Annabelle to just leave, so at the time it was not unusual behavior. Annabelle did not leave any note or letter stating where she had gone.

Annabelle has not been heard from or contacted anybody since 1982, even at the time of the deaths of her parents.

Annabelle Ludwig did not have a drivers license and did not work at time of disappearance.
No known jewelery she always wore. No known clothing she always wore or sizes / brands / shoe size.

No medical records available. She had four children through natural child birth.

About 3 hours away from UID, looks like similar dentals, had an 18 month old.

This caught my eye: "Susan was last seen carrying a blue nylon windbreaker"

Wish there were more recons, or at least a shot of the skeleton for CarlK's excel method match up.

Here is the Doenet listing for Susan Diane Wolff Cappel. A lot of factors do seem to match. Same general description, age, height, clothing, date, and vicinity.

The fact that the unidentified girl's body was disposed of in Indiana, so close to the state line makes me suspect that she was from Ohio.

a couple questions:

-was it determined that JD was caucasian? all the suggestions ive seen are white and i've mostly been looking at white girls based on the reconstruction. did they determine she was white? are we sure she had brown hair?

was a full skeleton found? i have seen a few possibles with previous fractures but i can rule them out if there was a full skeleton recovered and no mention of prior breaks, right?

The information in Namus is that the decedent is a 18 to 22 year old white female with brown hair and they found a complete or a near complete skeleton.

I found this woman on the City of Indianapolis website in their Missing Persons - Long Term Cases section. AFAIK, she is not on any of the other usual MP sites.

Height: 5'2"
Weight: 106 lbs
Missing Since: 03-Sep-1981
Current Age: 57

Based on the current age of 57, she would have been born around 1956 (give or take a year), and she would have been about 25 at the time of her disappearance.

She appears to have protruding front teeth similar to what is described of the Jane Doe: ("UPPER INCISORS PROTRUDE 10MM")

Her height is off by 3 inches. Her age is good. Timeline is good. Location is close enough. The photo of her posing with an infant would suggest that she might be a mother, and that would be consistent with the maternity slacks.

The facial shapes are fairly close, although the resemblance isn't that close, but I've seen quite a few from this particular artist that aren't that close in resemblance.

I wonder if she has ever been compared to this Jane Doe:

This woman was wearing an opal ring. Opal is the birthstone for someone born in October. I wonder if that might provide a clue as to her identity.

There's also a superstition that opals are bad luck if worn by someone who wasn't born in October. As I understand it, the superstition is largely due to a book by Sir Walter Scott and the diamond industry. Still, I grew up hearing that I wasn't ever supposed to wear opals--and I'm not that old!

The fact that she was found so close to the Ohio - Indiana state line could mean that she was from either of those states, possibly from somewhere between Indianapolis, IN and Columbus, OH.

It is almost 30 years since her discovery by hunters.

I had a ring that was opal and it was oval cut, set with two small diamonds sort of like at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock. the setting was gold, but I was born in January. I got the ring in the 70's I think, just because I liked it.

Received a reply from Amy Dobbs, the case manager.
She only wrote one sentence, but it says everything:

"DNA from both cases are in CODIS with no associations."

Back to the drawing board.
