Laura Babcock Murder Trial - *GUILTY*

Cops can come up with some very dirty tricks. First few nights of jail for Millard, there were two undercover officers in the cell with the end goal of trying to extract info about the whereabouts of TB.

What is your source for this? It sounds probable, but I don't recall ever hearing this. Also I agree with the previous poster that it's hardly "dirty tricks" to use undercover cops to find out information about where a missing man might be.

CN was on the police radar the moment DM was arrested. She refused to give a police statement. Obviously the lawyer got the letters out, but that does not mean he gave them to CN. I think police knew there was some communication via the letters. Lets just say police investigated CN after half the letter were sent, she would know at that point destroying those letters would be serious crime. Police obviously caught wind of the letters somehow.

This is wrong. Police were stunned to find the letters in her bedroom. Not long after all parties to the case went before a judge in Hamilton to ensure that they weren't violating solicitor/client privilege and that this evidence could later be thrown out.

You have to wonder why CN was part of the Help Find Laura FB group. Did DM tell her to join it so as not to arouse suspicion or did she join on her own?

There are just SO MANY questions I still have.

Maybe someone will eventually develop a conscience and tell all to unburden themselves. I know, it's pie in the sky but I hope some day it happens.

She was probably there to keep an eye on what was going on and pass on any relevant info to Millard.

She probably was on fb one day and saw that group and thought "hey I'll just join this group so people think I care". She's awful.

Well detectives their job is to capture a dangerous, armed person and once captured they want to nail them so yeah they might use some methods that are sneaky. they do it with drug dealers, using undercover police to make a drug deal and get information.
I don't have a problem if they are trying to convict a dangerous person then it is for the safety of everyone.
DM and MS were very dangerous, more DM because he had the money to carry out his missions, he even could use an aircraft in smuggling drugs or god knows what, guns, etc. He needed to be taken off the streets for sure.
MS is dangerous because he so willingly helped carry out the serious crimes of murder and he enjoyed it, that is the sickening part about it. He was violent and he liked being violent. I pray that they did not torture Laura but who knows, they ambushed her that is for sure.
She was I am sure very unsuspecting of the violence and danger DM and MS were. I don't know why she did not detect they were probably capable of being violent and dangerous, DM to me looked menacing but in some photos, he looked like an ordinary guy.
The police will do a lot they have to do to nab someone. I lived in Oakville in an apt. the building, there was a guy selling crack and the police in Oakville had him under surveillance for many months before they kicked down his apt door and arrested him.
I am just happy they got these two off the streets and now a few other characters in this case at least are now known to the police. I suspect some others who hung around with DM and MS are not of the most upstanding citizens so good their names are known to police.

She is a weird person and I don't know if anyone can figure out what she is up to. I think it is disgusting she joined the search group, but it does not surprise me, given all we know about her.
I read that about 60 texts between her and Laura were deleted and not retrievable. I have to wonder what those texts were about and if any threats made by CN to Laura. I believe she is capable to be someone to be concerned about.
The police know about her now and she has one conviction so she continues on as she has you never know she may end up behind bars in the future. That is all I have to say about Miss CN.

Interesting, but a lot of misprinting of information in this article.

It stung to read that one of their main bullet points was that LB was a drug user and an escort. While this is true, I hate that they put it as a main bullet point. She was a troubled girl trying to find her way and the two accused are the horrible people who made the bad choices. She was more than just a drug user and an escort. She loved DM and she trusted him. They had had a relationship, a friendship even. Now the people in the UK will see the words drug user and escort and think she was just another poor girl whose life did not mean as much.

Cannot stop thinking about those letters....do you think that there is a slightest possibility that LE encouraged them and allowed them to be smuggled to find the way to the trial? and this is the reason why CN's got off so easily despite her involvement?

I truly believe that DMs lawyers knew he was screwed!! Took a chance to reach out to people to get them to change their minds. I also truly believe that DM trusted CN to destroy those letters as Lawyer probably destroyed letters after DM read the reply from CN!! I also believe that little scribble of “or blackmail him?” Was really something that CN was willing to do but for what reason? Was it she knew everything (or a part of the crimes) and DM had that on her if she didn’t help? She was pretty quiet on the stand careful not to implicate herself or DM any further. Or was it for blackmail of money? We’ll never know but one thing is very certain, they truly were meant to be together!

I just can’t understand why a lawyer would risk it for him... he’s not worth anything.

Hi Abro

Can you clarify what was actually listed on the search warrant for the Noudga residence? I am not familiar with the process, but IIRC there have been posts here stating that there was multiple items listed. One being the DVR.

thanks

Without checking my notes, I believe the only item mentioned in court as being on the warrant was the DVR.

The letters were not on the warrant. Police had no idea they would find them. None.

I'm not sure why people have a hard time accepting this.

I will be writing a story about the letters soon with some new information.

I am having hard time to understand why she kept those letters...she was no longer in love with him...so if not destroying - why sitting on them instead of going to LE to show she has nothing to do with the crime?

She didn’t really fall out of love until she was personally inconvenienced by arrest and incarceration.

Exactly! DM even mentioned in one of his later letters that CN and MB were doing him a big favour by keeping their mouths shut. And AM should have done the same.

She also seemed to be chaperoned, and "wined" and dined by MB. They were getting very close in those months after DM was arrested. As for the letters, she may have simply thought her bedroom was off limits, to LE and her family. MOO

After all, she never understood what evidence was under Canadian Law.

Seems this lawyer does lots of shady stuff and gets away with it! So why not if it means winning his case? Some are all about the win no matter what it takes!

I would love to know what hymns speak to SB, Hank and Mary B in restoring their faith in humanity.

Loved your last line ... always such wit. [emoji4]

In the weeks and months that followed, Babcock's phone continued to receive countless calls from friends and family, desperate to reach her.
But the jury was told Millard never texted, never called Babcock, not once after that night.

FANTASTIC.
This is what I was getting at a few days back when I was asking about the cellular data re: incoming calls.
It frustrates me that this PIVOTAL piece of information was never reported in tweets/articles before now ... but I am so, so happy that it was brought up, and that it was brought up for the jury.

THIS is huge. If I were on the jury, THIS piece of information would be very compelling for me.

So true.

Funny this feels like a knock to my un-tech abilities. :(

No knock to anyone mimimic. I enjoy having discussions, and the odd heated constructive argument with the good people here. My animated "smiley" was just an "up" vote to this article, and especially the description of CN, "succubus". Made me laugh out loud.

She was still in love with him for the first few months of letters. And when she started losing interest, she likely realized the letters could be a good insurance/blackmail policy although she denied this at the Bosma trial.

A prosecutor not involved with this case once told me, "The girlfriend always keeps the letters."

And she couldn't show LE she had nothing to do with the crime, because she was involved in the crime.

The thing you need to accept to understand this case is that MIllard, Smich and Noudga are all remorseless psychopaths who do not operate like normal human beings.
