On May 3 when CBS 2 sat down with Craig Stebic, he said he was the only one home when Lisa left around 6:00 p.m. April 30.

"She left to go, supposedly, to work out," Craig Stebic said. "Somebody picked her up. I was in the backyard, working in the backyard. When I came in she'd already left."

The kids were at Walgreens at the time Craig Stebic says they then came home around 6:30 or 6:45 p.m., and then promptly left with him to go to the store.

"We went out shopping over at the local Target store for a birthday present, and she just never came back the next morning," Craig Stebic said.

A judge dismissed a divorce petition filed by Craig Stebic on Wednesday. Stebic's estranged wife, Lisa, has been missing for more than two months.

Lisa Stebic, 37, was last seen on April 30. Craig has been named as a person of interest in the case. The Plainfield couple was divorcing at the time of her disappearance, but lived in the same home.

"We have a full newscast out here today covering the dissolution proceeding while Lisa Stebic is out missing. I think resources need to be redirected towards the investigation of the disappearance of Lisa Stebic, not into the dissolution of the Stebics' marriage," said Dion Davi, Craig Stebic's Attorney.

Lisa Stebic's attorney wanted the judge to uphold the divorce petition.

A judge Wednesday granted a petition by Craig Stebic to halt his divorce from his missing wife, Lisa Stebic, in whose disappearance he is considered a person of interest.

As CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports, the hearing before Will County Court Judge Joseph Polito only lasted a minute or two, but in that time, the judge allowed for the dismissal of the divorce petition, which Craig had filed in January of this year.

Craig Stebic's attorney says it was his idea, not Craig's. The Stebics were in the process of getting a divorce when she disappeared from the family's home in Plainfield on April 30.

Craig Stebic did not attend today's hearing. His attorney, Dion Davi, said the reasons for the motion were that legal fees on both sides were mounting, and the divorce case could not proceed in Lisa's absence. Davi also said the divorce case was detracting from the ongoing search for the missing woman.

But Melanie Greenberg, Lisa Stebic's cousin and her family's spokeswoman, called the motion to end the divorce proceedings a "political maneuver."

"This is really a side issue," Greenberg said. "The main issue is we've had a woman go missing now for 10 weeks." Glenn Kahn, Lisa Stebic's divorce attorney, said he was disappointed with the judge's decision because he wanted the court to hold onto the case a little longer. "As far as I know, I still have a client," Kahn said.

Lisa Stebic's friend and neighbor spoke on national television for the first time Tuesday, saying Lisa feared her husband, Craig.

Laurri Bingenheimer told Fox News that Lisa said Craig had threatened to kill her. She also said she thinks the Stebic children know something that could help find their mother.

Bingenheimer also shed some light on what may have happened during a December argument in which police were called to the Stebic house. The police report on the incident has not been released to the public because of the ongoing missing-person investigation.

The family of a missing Plainfield woman hopes two billboards to be unveiled Tuesday in that community, asking "Where is Lisa Stebic?" will help generate new tips.

A third billboard is set to go up later this month in Hodgkins.

Featuring a photo of a smiling Stebic, information on the $60,000 reward and the tip hot line, 815-267-7217, the billboards are expected to stay up for at least six weeks, said Michael Wells, general manager of CBS Outdoor, which donated the space to Stebic's family.

A third billboard featuring Lisa’s face was unveiled Monday, this one along the Stevenson Expressway. So for though the three billboards haven't led to any breaks in an investigation that CBS 2 learned has taken detectives to four states outside of Illinois.

“We've been to Kentucky, we've been to Indiana, we've been to Iowa, we've been to Michigan," Bennett siad. "We've been all over following up on leads. Our investigation's kind of like an iceberg and the part that's underneath it and we've been working on, we really can't expose to the public."

But Bennett did say he expects to receive important lab results from the state crime lab.

Just as motorists cruise past billboard pictures of Lisa Stebic, Web surfers have taken notice of a virtual billboard featuring her case.

A Naperville woman's MySpace.com site dedicated to the Plainfield mom's disappearance has drawn the attention of blog readers.

The site has multiple pictures of Stebic on a black background with glittering pink butterflies. It includes the police tip hotline and Lisa's family Web site, findlisastebic.com.

Kristine Long said she doesn't know Lisa or her family, but was compelled to create the site to help spread the word.

"I just work right across the street from where she lives. I've followed the story from day one," Long said. "It just really hit me."

Police on Monday said there are no updates in the case, which has taken investigators out of state, roused hundreds of volunteers for searches and has made national -- even international headlines. Stebic was last seen April 30 at her home.

AFTER EXTENSIVE SEARCHES, TIPS ON MISSING PLAINFIELD MOTHER ARE DRYING UP

Four months after Lisa Stebic disappeared, police say the missing woman's case is now at a crossroads.

The flow of tips about the missing mother of two has mostly dried up.

Police have conducted extensive searches of local parks, trails, lakes, storage facilities and parking lots -- and anywhere else Lisa may have gone.

Investigators have followed some leads out of state. They've consulted with other law enforcement agencies who have handled similar cases and interviewed and re-interviewed friends, family, acquaintances and others.

Now police plan to meet with the state's attorney's office, which has assigned an assistant state's attorney as a point person on the case, to review the evidence.

As early as this week, police could learn if the Stebic children know anything about the disappearance of their mother.

It could take a grand jury to find out. But Lisa Stebic's family says if that's what it takes to help find the missing mother of two, then so be it.

Officials from the Will County state's attorney's office plan to meet with Plainfield police to discuss the case and how to proceed with the investigation into the disappearance of Lisa Stebic.

Past Cases Shed Light On Stebic Disappearance

Stebic Still Declines To Let Police Talk To His Children

POSTED: 11:36 am CDT September 5, 2007

PLAINFIELD, Ill. -- It was 13 weeks into the investigation of the disappearance of Laci Peterson that police reclassified the case as a homicide.
That's about the same time into Plainfield police's case that Craig Stebic was named a "person of interest" in the April 30 disappearance of his wife, Lisa.

Stebic Case To Go To Prosecutors
Grand Jury Proceedings Being Considered

PLAINFIELD, Ill. -- Police may have to wait until next week to discuss the case of a missing Plainfield woman with prosecutors.

When they do meet, grand jury proceedings will be on the agenda, said Charles Pelkie, spokesman for the Office of the Will County State's Attorney's.

In their quest to reinterview the children of missing mom Lisa Stebic, authorities have tried to avoid what they say is a last resort: subpoenaing the kids to testify before a grand jury.

The family of a missing suburban Chicago mom who disappeared five months ago still has no answers as to what happened to their loved one, though they believe she is a victim of foul play.

Lisa Stebic was reported missing on April 30. Craig Stebic, her husband, said he was working in the family’s backyard and the children were out when she vanished.

“She did not just walk away," Melanie Greenberg, cousin of Lisa Stebic, told FOXNews.com. "She did not run off and leave her children. Something happened to her.”

The family doesn't just want answers — they want to put Lisa Stebic to rest.
