I could be wrong but I believe it was 6 months to 3 years.

Either way, it was wth before she ever met Travis, so it's yet another stupid thing the defense team opened the door on.

Do we know how old her brother was when Jodi was 13? He looks really young in the photo on MySpace. Was he even BORN then or did JA just tell him about this?

Just my interpretations from the court minutes:

DT originally called ALV for the sentencing phase only.
Juan asks for her notes.
DT doesn't want him to have ALL the notes - work product, they claim
Suddenly ALV will be testifying in the GUILT PHASE.
Juan still wants ALL notes

In the end -, he gets them all except three or four, but oh, the games they played with him. Over and over and over again. On every issue.

I don't understand how that's legal.

I thought each side was required by law to turn over copies of everything they plan to use in the case?!?!

There are two brothers: Carl is 2 years younger than Jodi, Joseph is 13 years younger.

Does this pic of prosecution expert Dr. Janeen Demarte remind y'all of anyone?

http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/name/Janeen_DeMarte_PhD_Phoenix_Arizona_136525

She has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and treats individuals and families.
............................................................................................................
Defense DV expert Alyce La Violette has a Masters in Community-Psychology, which I think indicates she doesn't treat individuals but focuses on community dynamics and group interactions. If so, I don't know what she'll be able to suggest about Jodi in particular. Maybe she'll restrict herself to generalities.

ALV's C.V. indicates that she's also a sole practitioner in private practice from the 1980's to current.

Unlike Doc 2 1/2 Franklins, she has not been a licensed radiotelephone engineer, or an FCC-licensed broadcast engineer and announcer.

Thank you! That was quite confusing! I guess the statement had to come from Carl. Surprising she didn't bring it up during her month on the stand! :twocents:

Truth Detector,
Looks like low cut blouses are the norm of MS's - this one has one too. Someone explained the MS mix up, and I know PART of it was that the current one is self employed, but I don't remember the rest.
If the one in your pic was smart, she got out while she could.

Yeah, funny how all these little tidbits never came up huh? Her marathon life story, and no mention of this incident?

OK, I am one of those who TRIED to not get drawn in to this trial. Obviously, I did anyway. I have been watching the trial and reading here every day, and I have a question. How did Jodi gain entrance to Travis' home that day? Did she just show up on his doorstep and he let her in, or did she enter/let herself in while he was gone somewhere and was waiting on him when he returned? I've searched around and can't seem to find that info anywhere. TIA

Who is going to be on websleuths radio tonight? It starts at 8 pm eastern for those that do not listen to regularly or newbies! Katie has been on the last few weeks!

She moved in with her grandparents I think.

That's one of the things that amazes me about JA. Here she was an adult in her late 20's, almost 30? And have we heard of even one time that she was responsible to actually have her own place where she wasn't either shacking up or mooching off of someone? She consistently hopped from job to job, frequently got impulses to go on road trips which she financed by leaching off old boyfriends and whoever else she could find that was an easy patsy.

Certainly considered minor character flaws compared to being a cold blooded murdering sociopath, but I really don't think this detestable creature has a single redeeming quality.

JA definitely ruined that beautiful Christmas carol for me.

:furious:

MOO

You know, I bet the girl was singing that song while she cleaned up at his house. She sang it again during det. Flores questioning. While she was alone.."egads!

I just assumed that MS stood for 'Mammagation Spectaclist'.

I guess MS would fit Mitigation Specialist, too.

Do I ever feel silly! :blushing:

Well, if the woman above Juan's head is JA's Mitigation Specialist, then why does the Maricopa County Superior Court list Sue Stodola the Mitigation Specialist?

As we can see, they are not the same person.

They certainly aren't , but don't ask me why. All I know is the present mitigation specialist is called Maria DeLaRosa.

The original domestic violence concept was a narrow one, confined to family violence in a household. This has been expanded by organisations who assist victims so that individuals who date, who break up, who have never cohabited can participate in domestic violence. The term has stretched until it has blown its seams. Not all jurisdictions recognise in law the new expanded version. "Domestic violence" loses me when it asserts a perpetrator of a horrendous crime (to quote Samuels) will travel a thousand miles to join a threat and yet retain victim status. Yes, the singed moth flies 1,000 miles to the flame and somehow, the flame is at fault. So we are looking at a logical contortion where yes, the defendant is admittedly by her own expert, perpetrator of a horrendous crime, initiator of the encounter at cost to her in time, energy and expense and yet appeals to us for sympathy as victim of domestic violence. She was in no wise part of a domestic surround unless she chose to be. Intimate partner violence is a better rubric but the incongruous roles Arias is representing to us clash and clang like a knife on tile.

Very well said!

If you read all the minutes, it is so obvious this judge is in over her head. She'd rule on something, Nurmi would bring it up again, as if she never ruled, and she'd rule AGAIN - not always the same!!
This happens over and over in the minutes. I think I counted FOUR times on one issue he continued to bring up. It was ridiculous.
She was assigned to juvenile court before this, and I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, and say she just wasn't quite ready for such an involved DP case.

There is tons of speculation as to whether he knew/didn't know she was coming, whether she had a key or not, some have said at times she let herself in through the dog door...personally I think she had a key. She stayed with him at times and at one point was his "cleaning lady," so it would make sense.

Interesting. In the "old days" we guarded our notes like a journalist guards their sources. If survivors couldn't count on complete confidentiality, they certainly would not want to talk to us for fear that the abuser would hear what was said. I'd have gone to jail before ANY attorney would have me disclosing this type of sensitive info.

So maybe ALV will end up being a hostile witness to the DT after all. Sad for her that she is credentialed. When I've testified as an "expert" it was more along a forensic line regarding the cycles and syndromes.

In fact, now that I think about it, I doubt very much there is a diagnosis code for Battered Women's Syndrome (just having some fun--we all KNOW there isn't). Without those degree initials, ALV's testimony specific to Jody would just be hearsay - she wasn't a witness to anything Travis did or didn't do. Still, if she was being treated as a professional, shouldn't her work product be protected as confidential?

Like I've always suspected, when the appeal briefs get written this whole defense strategy will make for fascinating reading. Weigh in on this all you psychs and attorneys, please.

Even while staying with Rachel in Mesa, JA admitted she didn't pay rent. Her Infinity was repossessed, and hiring rental cars seemed a fixture in her life. Very odd, as was her not at least getting a GED before being jailed. Real life as most folks know it was foreign to her.
