This article (about the suspect's high school years) included this random paragraph:

"Markoff exhibited bizarre behavior while in a Hub jail cell after his arrest, at one point shoving wads of toilet paper down his pants. Police asked him what he was doing and he told them he was keeping the tissue clean in case he had to use it later, a source said."

Any sleuths here have any idea what this behavior/action might be indicative of?

the beginnings of a hail mary insanity defense?????

unfortunately, it appears there are no emoticons showing paper being shoved down pants to indicate "crazy"......seems like a very primitive indication that he should have gone "crazy" with different symptoms if he wants a jury to buy it......LOL

Dr, Phil on J Leno.........talking about 'he was so nice, quiet, couldn't have done this'
is usually what people say about a serial criminal.

What if the police found a whole stash of panties, so they know that there are other victims?

A reporter needs to ask "How many panties did the police find?"

His girlfriend lived with him in his apt? Wonder where the police found the panties..well and the gun too. I can see anyone having duct tape, but all those other things in the same apt...creepy

I was wondering that also,if they lived together? All the things found, how did she not find them or wonder or ask questions, something!

My nephew called me last night and when this guy was at SUNY Albany,he was in a bowling league with my nephew.I can't imagine how he got involved with this league as ,he would have been very young and my nephew is in his 30's. Anyway,he said Phiilip was stand offish, had somewhat of an attitude, maybe arrogant at times. One of my nephews friends almost got into an arguement with him. Interesting when everyone else says what a nice guy he was. Maybe he thought this group of blue collar workers were "beneath" him? He certainly felt that about "massage therapists"!

I heard on HLN today that he bowled in high school (apparently that makes you nerdy) so maybe he joined because he enjoyed it, and there were no 'younger' leagues to join.

I have more to say, going to save it for later, it's bedtime here in Chicago!

On our local radio station this morning,WGY,they had an interview with a former classmate of his from SUNY Albany. She said he "forced" himself on her one night when they were drinking. He was trying to kiss her and would not stop. It took another student who happened to come upon them to pull him off.
Things that one might chalk up to "drunken behavior" or just a bit off, take on a whole new light now.

This is like something from a script for CSI or Law and Order!

Amazing - his gun was hidden inside a hollowed out copy of Gray's Anatomy.
Boston Herald Story

Also interesting - they trailed him for days before the arrest:
Boston Herald: Suspect Trailed for Days

Shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, Markoff emerged from his apartment, a backpack slung over his shoulder as he rolled a small suitcase and loaded it into a car, McAllister in tow.

Was he going on the lam, or just taking a harmless trip?

“There’s a million things going through your head,” Albert said. “Is he taking off because he saw the surveillance photos? It becomes intense.”

The cops didn’t take any chances. Albert notifed Lt. Detective Robert M. Merner, head of the homicide unit, who told him to stop the car before it crossed the Rhode Island border.

After initially failing to stop, Markoff - on his way to Foxwoods - pulled over in the breakdown lane on Interstate 95 in Walpole. Calm and collected, Markoff exited the car. Albert told him it would be seized and searched before the couple was brought to BPD headquarters for questioning.

“He seemed at that point to be very distant,” Albert said. “He showed no emotion whatsoever.”

Good news if it's true. Craig's List is going to start charging $25.00 for job listings. At least, this is a start.

Here's a link with his friend talking about the night she had to have someone pull him off...

Last night I heard from a Boston reporter on a channel (sorry I cannot remember which one, but surely Fox News, CNN or HLN) that Markoff's fiancee goes to medical school in St. Kitts, the Caribbean island, so she does not live with him year-round.

She probably would not have been aware of his whereabouts -- or trying to get in touch with him -- at the hours when he was out and about. MOO.

Where does spoiled rich kid come in? His mom works in a casino gift shop and he went to SUNY. This doesn't sound like rich kid to me...

I'm sorry.....he looks so arrogant, and since he's going pre-med, I figured he must be rich. Med school costs a lot of money, for those who can't get scholarships. Aren't he and his fiance planning a fairly lavish wedding? Just led me to believe he had some money in the family.

Anyway,I apologize for making that statement if it was wrong .

That does change things a bit re the Atlantic City killings--the authorities ought to look into it.

While I feel sorry for this guy's fiance, she has no idea how lucky she is! I believe now that she's had time to re-evaluate their relationship, she's going to PERHAPS see SOME indication that this guy just MAY be WHO LE says he is, a cold, calculating, criminal. That is, IF she takes her blinders off.

I once followed a case where-by I corresponded with someone who was acquainted with a person who was eventually accused and is awaiting trial for a murder. It was this person's description of this accused person that made me believe he was most likely guilty of the crime he's now accused of. There were other indications of his alleged guilt, of course, but it was his persona and way of looking at 'others,' that is most revealing, IMHO. It was the same type of arrogance, narcicissm (sp?), and other signs that there's popular psychiatric terms that are thrown out to describe his unsettling personality.

There's no doubt in my mind, IMHO, that IF this guy hadn't been caught, he would have continued his unsavory ways and that one day, we would have PERHAPS followed him in a case where-by his wife was either murdered or missing without a trace.

Yes, LUCKY, is what I'd use to describe this young woman,...........now that this guy is behind bars. She has NO IDEA!

JMHO
fran

PS...........Yes, I know, INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. ;)
