Detective set to publish McCann book in Britain

Portuguese officer who led the search for Madeleine says his account defends the honour of his team

By Thais Portilho-Shrimpton
Sunday, 16 November 2008

Former policeman Goncalo Amaral hopes his book will be read in the UK by the 'section of the public eager to know the truth'

A controversial best-selling account of the hunt for Madeleine McCann by the Portuguese detective who led the investigation is expected to be published in the UK soon, according to its author.

Speaking exclusively to The Independent on Sunday, Goncalo Amaral denied cashing in on the tragic disappearance of the three-year-old but said he was determined to restore his reputation, which "had been torn to shreds" by unfair and inaccurate media reports.

The book, Maddie: The Truth about the Lie, has already sold an estimated 180,000 copies in Europe, and Mr Amaral's representatives are trying find a British publisher. The McCanns said last night that they would scrutinise any British publication with a view to possible legal action.

Do you suppose that this means Retardo 3 knows what really happened to Maddie??

The more people that know the truth the better the chances of the truth coming out.

To be honest I'm not sure they know what happened because im not sure the McCanns would risk the truth coming out by telling them.

But people have alleged that they was offered money to make false statements. Likewise Murats mother was stalked by these guys and made to feel intimidated by them. Martin Smith in Ireland was going to go to the Pjs to make a statement to say that he had seen a guy by the beach who in his opinion was Gerry with Madeleine on the 3rd of May...and then Metado went to see him ...and Amaral was taken off the case and Smith didnt go to Ireland. Firstly I dont see why if this company genuinely thought that Madeleine was missing why they would be doing the crap they did. Secondly I dont understand how they was allowed to go to the witnesses or people involved and intimidate them especially when the McCanns were suspects at the time. The company are or were being paid by Brian Kennedy who himself had been to see Robert Murat and again I dont understand why someone in his position would be going to see Murat or employing such a obvious gang of cowboys :(

There have been people come forward who have stated they was offered money by Metado ( the McCanns PI's) to state they had seen sightings of Madeleine when they in fact hadnt seen her at all :(

I wish that these people would stand up & be counted & give statements to PJ & let's get this unholy mess sorted out for once & for all!

Do you have any links that you could post to tell us who is saying that they were paid by Metodo 3 please?

I think the Pjs are well aware of Metado and the way they work. One of the investigators recently got involved in a massive drug haul :(

As for the Pjs i get the feeling it wouldnt make a difference. For whatever reason a brick wall has been put around this case and i find it hard to believe anyone will ever be charged in connection with this or for that matter that the case will ever be reopened :(

As for the people alleging they was paid to make up statements i actually read that about 6 months or so ago now - possibly on the 3A forum or in the files that were released im not sure which sorry ;(

Are Kate and Gerry McCann Innocent or Guilty?

The McCanns at the Praia da
Luz Church, Algarve
12 May 2007

This is the question we should be asking at this stage. To answer it, we must ask another essential question: Was Maddie abducted or not? If to legal professionals, who have followed this case closely from the start, it was very quickly evident, as well as to the PJ, that over time, the theory of abduction became less and less plausible, the facts revealed by SOS Madeleine McCann on November 11th have dealt a death blow to the theory of kidnapping.

This is also the admission of one of the detectives of the Spanish agency Metodo3, hired by the McCann parents to find Madeleine, who we learn were not hired to find Madeleine but indeed to direct public opinion (and perhaps the PJ) towards Spain or Morocco, the purpose being to manipulate the media and the public by inventing false leads in both these countries also causing the slowing down of the investigation. (The PJ had to check out these many false leads every time.) Thus, journalists were invited to interview "witnesses" paid by the said agency to say they had seen Madeleine. If these revelations are true, and there is no reason to doubt them, we can, in any case, bring doubt to bear on all of the statements of many of the witnesses who stated having seen Madeleine. Above all concerning witnesses who happened by chance, at some time, to have a connection with the McCann family, notably via the Netherlands.

Abducted or died?

Another question comes to mind: Why weren't the detectives hired to find Madeleine, contrary to what was shouted loudly and clearly by parents broken down by the "abduction" of their much loved little girl? Why did the parents hire detectives to put on a huge media show and slow down the ongoing investigation instead of finding their little girl? The only plausible answer to that question, is that the parents knew perfectly well that Madeleine was not abducted. But, then, what has become of Madeleine? Still on the basis of the truth of statements from SOS Madeleine, there too, the only answer that comes to mind is: the death of the little girl. This hypothesis is the one which has the most consistency and is the track maintained by the PJ investigators in agreement with their British counterparts.

So, guilty or innocent?

If Madeleine died, which seems to be so obvious as to be the truth, it happened by accident. The little girl's parents are not cold-bloodied killers. Two hypothesis are held. The first is death following an overdose of Calpol , of which the proportion of sedative is more significant in Portugal than in the UK. Maddie allegedly awoke in a semi-conscious state, allegedly stumbled, banged herself violently and died of her injuries. Another suggested hypothesis and which largely takes precedence, is the theory according to which Kate allegedly argued with Madeleine. During this argument, Kate allegedly made an unfortunate move, Madeleine was knocked against an edge or a corner of a piece of furniture, she bled profusely and died quickly. (whiplash in banging herself for example).

In short, a terrible tragedy for the parents. In both cases the parents are facing a few years in prison. Be it for manslaughter, in the first instance: be it for "involuntary blows and injuries causing death without the intention to do so," in the second case. With a major difference with regards to Portugal: in the eyes of the law, if there was negligence towards the child, the couple's other children would be immediately placed with Portuguese social services WITH NO possibility of their being returned to their British family!!! It was clear that as well as the misfortune and pain of losing Madeleine, it was urgent to protect the twins. Also, a member close to Gerry, being the main "financial backer" of the British Prime Minister's political party, was contacted on the same evening as Madeleine's "disappearance" by Kate (on her own admission), Then the media, via sky News, helped to launch an unprecedented media machine at the moment when the PJ's director received, in the middle of his dinner in Lisbon, a call on his mobile phone from the British embassy informing him of the disappearance of a little British girl while the local police were not yet on the spot! In the parents' place, in the same situation, with they connections they have, would we not have done the same thing to protect our two other children?

Was there fraud?

Continuing to refer to the revelations by the detective from the Spanish agency hired by the McCanns, in the eyes of the law, yes there is fraud! Fraud in the creation of a fund to find Madeleine of which the money was mainly used to pay detectives who admit never having been hired to find Madeleine. 50,000 euors a month to divert attention from the investigation. Emotional fraud and that is, surely, the most serious. All those people who thought of themselves in solidarity, affected by Maddie's disappearance, pouring money into a fund which would help to find her. We all fell into the trap.

Ourselves, here, at the association, we cried, like you, imagining that poor child, abducted, alone without her security blanket to comfort her, crying with all her heart, away from her parents, panicked....And those things more truly horrible of which we would not speak here but which justified the creation of our association. To begin with, it played on the heartstrings until we realised that the theory of abduction was becoming hardly defensible, not to mention that the parents didn't hesitate to attack various media and collect considerable sums in "damages" following what was written by them. But those famous words could have been the absolute truth!!!

A mole in the PJ.

SOS Madeleine revealed the presence of a mole in the PJ, informing the parents in advance of various investigative operations that the team in charge of the case were going to set up. It is more understandable why the parents were in the middle of washing Maddie's pink comfort blanket as well as other clothes in the washing machine just before the arrival of the inspectors to seize the comfort blanket and the clothes with a view to DNA analysis!!! We could add a long list of worrying details in the parents' attitude but which perfectly explain themselves when we know that a member of the PJ was advising them of what was going to happen! Is this the attitude of people who have nothing to hide?

Anomalies in the case file on DVD

For some time, a small part of the complete case file (5,000 out of 30,000 pages!!!) has been accessible to the public. We have published some it it here, noting that it is necessary to be careful in publishing its contents. In fact, this DVD is not complete and only represents around 17% of the total. Our association, like probably all the other professionals in the field of police work, detected anomalies in the case file. In fact, some documents appeared doubtful, seen as suspicious. Some signatures, annotations, drew our attention. We addressed them to whom it may concern to take the information back to Portugal. Following that, and even though we had been aware for several weeks, the journalist Duarte Levy, in statements, yesterday on Portuguese television, revealed that there were documents in the case file which had been tampered with and manipulated. It is there, neither more nor less than errors in writing. No comment. So, be careful what you read on various forums.

Death threats!

At the start of the broadcast in which the journalist we spoke about above, Duarte Levy, was participating, the director of the Portuguese television channel informed the viewers that Mr Levy had just, at that moment, received death threats on his mobile phone following his latest revelations. These threats are being taken seriously. According to our information, the journalist received two different calls. One from Portugal and the other from the UK, both threatening to kill him! If the revelations made by SOS Madeleine are false, and as a result the parents have nothing to hide, why threaten to kill people? Why does the McCann clan brandish, at the slightest opportunity, a threatening finger towards anyone who would not say the same things as them? Why try to silence the press?

In conclusion.

If the revelations from SOS Madeleine concerning the Metodo3 detectives and the PJ mole are correct, it could be deduced that the parents were not innocent, that Madeleine was not abducted. That there is fraud. And above all that the hoax is in the process of being shot down - as proof the various death threats - and that the truth will, in the end, see the light of day!!!

The Legacy of Portuguese Lawyership: A Matter of Ethics & Responsibility

Marcos Aragão Correia, is a Portuguese lawyer who has become known due to his intervention in the Madeleine McCann case, and more recently by becoming Leonor Cipriano’s defense lawyer in an ongoing process trial, and who has unethically infringed several articles of the Lawyers' Association Deontological Code*

Press Extracts

Aragão Correia, the present lawyer for Leonor Cipriano who had already admitted to getting involved in the case at the request of the McCanns’ detectives, also recognizes to CM that he tried “to reach a deal” with the five policemen’s defense for the other four to incriminate Gonçalo Amaral. “I confronted the lawyer of the other four inspectors [three of which stand accused of torture and one of falsifying the service information] and I told them that if they wanted to confess that it was Gonçalo Amaral who gave the order to torture Leonor Cipriano, we could try to reach a deal…” Aragão Correia says that “this is normal in any process” – and he refuses to admit that the persecution of Gonçalo Amaral is related to the McCanns. He approached the case on request of the couple’s detectives, but now he guarantees that nobody is paying him.

McCann Case: Anomalies in the Case File

From Joana Morias Blog

Posted: 22 Nov 2008 05:45 PM CST

Since a small part of the case file - the DVD version was made accessible to the public, a great deal of ink has flowed. We note that it is necessary to be cautious as to its contents. In fact, it is only 17% of the complete case file and certain details are only of interest in relation to the complete file and not taken out of their context.

You probably know that our team, at the association, is comprised mainly of professionals from the field of police work. As such, we have analysed the case file and from the first pages, we have identified a few anomalies. Thus, the registers from the Kids Club appeared to be incomplete. Certain gaps have not been explained.

KidsClubRegister.jpg

Thus we note that on May 1st 2007, Madeleine McCann's name is on the Kids Club regsiter. She arrived at 9.30am, dropped off by Gerry. According to the register, Gerry spent the morning playing tennis. He went back to fetch Madeleine at 12.20pm. Where things seem stranger to us is in the entries for the afternoon. Gerry drops Madeleine off at the Kids Club at 2.30pm and he spends his afternoon, again according to the register, playing tennis and at the swimming pool. Oddly, no one went back to fetch Madeleine in the evening! No signature for the evening of May 1st 2007. Why? Why did no one sign the register that evening?

Various explanations are possible.

It could be imagined that the parents arrived late to pick up Madeleine and that they didn't take the time to sign the register. In that case, why isn't that made clear in the case file? Why is there no mention of this possible lateness? And above all, why were they late? Right in the middle of an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a little four year-old girl, these details are important. But the anomalies continue the following day.

KidsClubSignature.jpg

According to the register for May 2nd 2007, the day before Madeleine's disappearance, Kate dropped Maddie off at the Kids Club at 9.20am. Madeleine was picked up at 12.30pm but it's not Kate or Gerry's signature on the register. Someone else has signed the register in the space for parents. The signature of Cat nanny, in other words, CATRIONA BAKER is found there.

Here too, you could imagine various explanations. The parents arrived late (once again?) and in a hurry (why?), they didn't sign the register. You could think that they forgot, for the second time, to sign the register. You could imagine that Catriona had finished her shift and as the parents had not yet come to fetch Maddie, Catriona signed the register then took Madeleine to her parents. You could imagine lots of things. But no explanation is provided in the case file. Catriona didn't mention it in her interview, the parents neither. But this kind of detail raises questions that need to be resolved. Too many unanswered questions, too many whys, too many gaps, not enough explanation.

These explanations could go in two directions. Thus, the investigators must wonder if Maddie didn't disappear sooner than May 3rd? If she was indeed present present at the Kids Club on the afternoon of May 1st? Why didn't anyone sign the register? Was she actually present at the Kids Club on the morning of May 2nd? Why did Catriona sign in the space for parents? Why does Kate's signature on the register for May 2nd seem different from Kate's other signatures? Where were the parents if someone else signed for them?

Certainly, these anomalies may only be trivial details, but these details could equally be significant, even fundamental to the investigation. Don't forget we are talking about the disappearance of a little four year-old girl. We cannot allow ourselves to leave these questions unanswered.

These anomalies, which are the first of a long series, were communicate to whom they may concern. And it is in referring to the article on SOS Madeleine of November 19th, we discover that a hand-writing report would be necessary. This confirms our suspicions and implicitly confirms certain rumours mentioning forged pieces of writing, forged signatures....manipulated documents...signatures added several days after the date indicated...etc.

If this report, that SOS Madeleine speaks of, confirms our our suspicions (and the rumours) these details which we have officially revealed, are then clearly less "trivial" !!!!

http://joana-morais.blogspot.com/2008/11/madeleine-mccann-haunting-evidenceor-no.html

An interesting - perhaps a funded - spin. The way an abductor is referred to as if there is no doubt that such an individual existed can only assist the McCanns and their peculiar beneficiary (one 'Brian Kennedy' - a 'one off' philanthropist) to feed the myth that Madeleine was actually abducted.

Whilst there is insufficient legally accepted evidence that Madeleines hapless parents were directly responsible for her disapperance, that they were indirectly responsible is an indisputable fact. One does not leave children under 4 years old alone whilst one goes out for the evening.

Its a pity that nobody has bothered to create a strictly factual documentary exposing the inconsistancies in the story telling of the so-called 'Tapas 9' and the complete lack of any evidence whatsoever that the child was abducted.

One day - perhaps. Lets hope that the spin does not become the facts!

...and why was there a recent inquest into the deaths of those parents in the Algarve - yet no inquest into the disappearance of Madeleine? Obviously the parents are well placed - ask yourself this, would an ordinary family have a 'famous' photographer taking a family picture as did the McCanns before Madeleine was ever known to us?

It is an interesting question, Refugee. Why haven't they done an inquest for Maddie? Tony Bennett has been asking this for some time and would very much like to find a way to "force" (for lack of a better word) the English courts to do an inquest.

And I agree about the silence of the UK police. I'm confident that they know the truth, but that we will never hear it from them.

KATE: I KNOW OUR MADDIE IS ALIVE

EXCLUSIVE New worldwide appeal as McCanns face second heartbreak Xmas Star gives TV backing
By Tracey Kandohla

Missing Madeleine McCann's mum Kate remains certain she is still alive - and plans a worldwide appeal at Christmas for help in finding the tot.
Kate and husband Gerry, both 40, are facing their second Christmas without Maddie - but they bravely took their twins Amelie and Sean out for some festive fun this week.
A sporting hero, who has yet to be named, will front the TV appeal. The celeb will speak as previously unseen footage of Maddie is screened.
She was nearly four when she vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal 19 months ago. But McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "Kate and Gerry believe Madeleine is still out there. Their faith and hope have helped them through their darkest days.
"They believe their daughter is still alive. The Christmas message will be about finding her. Kate and Gerry do not want to appear themselves but they are keen to invigorate interest in the search."
Sean and Amelie, three, wore Star Wars fancy dress and shrieked with laughter as Christmas lights were turned on by Darth Vader in the McCanns' home village of Rothley, Leics.
Blonde Amelie, who bares a striking resemblance to her big sister, was dressed as Princess Leia.
Sean waved a toy Star Wars light sabre. Kate clung tightly to Amelie. But an onlooker said: "I have never seen her look so happy. She was grinning from ear to ear. It was a joy to see her so content and relaxed."
Mr Mitchell said: "Kate wanted the twins to see the lights. Last year was difficult but this year they are making an effort for their sake."

As posted by our friend Tony B. over on 3A's.....

60 Good Reasons for believing Madeleine McCann was abducted:

(based on an original idea yesterday by Katzenwaffe. Amended to include Reasons 62, 63 and 64)

1. Dr Gerry McCann says she was abducted

2. The abductor(s) could easily have been ‘casing the joint’ for days beforehand without being seen by anyone. After all, there are a lot of abducting paedophiles about all over western Europe constantly looking to break in to houses and steal children to order. Between around 9.12pm and 9.14pm on Thursday 3rd May 2008, he could easily have jemmied open the shutters, sorry, I mean walked through the open patio door without being seen, immediately after Dr Matthew Oldfield had checked the apartment at around 8.50pm to 9.00pm and Dr Gerry McCann did so between 9.05pm and 9.10pm, found Madeleine in the dark, picked her up, without waking her or the twins, opened the window - without leaving any fingerprints, opened the shutters (with nobody hearing him doing so, and once again without leaving any fingerprints), climbed through the window, carrying Madeleine with him - again without being seen by anyone, and again without leaving any fingerprints, and then moreorless closed the very noisy shutters behind him, using controls operated from the inside - while still having Madeleine in his arms, or having laid her down on the patio. He could easily have done this without brushing away even a tiny piece of the years-old lichen growing on the window-sill or leaving any clothing fibres or other forensic evidence, and it would have been simple to have accomplished this whole operation in near total darkness and without being seen or heard by anyone

3. sans_souci and DCB say she was abducted

4. The Portuguese police and Leicestershire Police called in the cadaver dog Eddie purely to smear the innocent McCanns and cover up their own incompetence; they must have known in advance that Eddie couldn’t tell the difference between a cubic centimetre of roast pork and a human corpse

5. The BBC says she was abducted

6. Jane Tanner saw the abductor, and gradually remembered more and more and more about him with the help of a cognitive therapist and an FBI-trained forensic artist

7. Dr Kate McCann says she was abducted

8. Marcos Alexandre Aragao Correia, the man paid by Metodo 3 to conduct a diversionary search of the Arade Dam in early 2008 which Dr Gerry McCann hailed at the time as, quite ‘fantastic news’ says he was told by an underworld source within 3 days that Madeleine had been abducted, raped, killed and thrown into a lake within 48 hours of being abducted, sorry, scrub that, he received this information in a supernatural vision (cough)

9. Dr Russell O’Brien says she was abducted

10. The Portuguese judicial authorities said in July 2008 that there was no evidence that Madeleine had not been abducted

11. Mrs Justice Hogg says she was abducted

12. Conspiracy fantasist Michael Shrimpton says she was abducted in a boat hired by a Belgian paedophile ring

13. Rachael Mampilly says she was abducted

14. The Pope says she was abducted - no, delete that, he changed his mind two days before the Doctors McCann were made ‘arguido’ and ‘arguida’

15. The ‘Tapas 9’ are clearly all telling the truth about how Madeleine was abducted and any miniscule discrepancies can easily be explained by the fact that witnesses’ recollections always differ slightly

16. The ‘News of the World’ says she was abducted

17. Richard Branson says she was abducted

<continues: http://the3arguidos.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=26226>

Number 8 is so, so, so disappointing to me. I really thought one of the Tapas 9 had given the guy some information and he just was not going to tell until he found Maddie. I feel betrayed by this jerk! I had such high hopes of someone doing something for Maddie.....

Bolded by me.

Once again, I must point out, the twins are given as the reason that Kate does anything.

We must add this to the list of All the Things Kate and Gerry Do For the Twin, which includes, of course, their holiday this year.

I think the reason the McCanns make so many statements about doing things for the twins, having fun for the twins, smiling because of the twins, going on period because of the twins, is because they have, deep down, enormous, overwhelming guilt.

They feel this guilt either because a) they left Madeleine alone and she was kidnapped (despite no evidence to the contrary, I'll throw this one out) so because of their selfish and negligent attitudes, they exposed their child to danger or b) they know what really happened to Madeleine again because a) they left her alone or tried to sedate so that she could be left alone. And they feel tremendous guilt as they left her remains somewhere.

Which one, I don't know, but I do feel they have enormous guilt.

I can only feel sorry for the twins, though, growing up with the enormous burden of this "we did it only for the twins" on them.

Or maybe its so they can swan around havi8ng a good time - like lots of holidays - and use the twins as their excuse.

I wonder if theyu indoctrinate the twins with the idea that leaving kids alone (apparently with the door unlocked and knowing one of them wakes and cries) is fine - in case one day they ask - 'Mum, Dad, didnt you think it was a bit risky leaving our long lost daughter to babysit at three years old?'

Personally I have no doubt that Madeleine is dead, they know shes dead and they know why and how she came to be dead - and they know exactly where she ended up.

One day perhaps the UK justice system will wake up and prosecute these unpleasant parents - as it sometimes does with other unpleasent but less well connected parents.

Ahhhh - this is the part that got to me: But an onlooker said: "I have never seen her look so happy. She was grinning from ear to ear. It was a joy to see her so content and relaxed."

Having your young children out in the crowd while your oldest is "missing" and you are content and relaxed? No fear there, huh? Of course she is relaxed, after all the inquiry is over and the truth remains hidden.

Poor Maddie - I hope the Christmas Star shines brightly on her, where ever she is and the angels give her the best Christmas ever!

More on the deleted call records
Where Was Kate McCann? (*)

The CD issued by Ministerio Publico de Portimao in July 2008, contains a great deal of information on the mobile calls made and received by the “Tapas 9” but it is dispersed, difficult to retrieve and with important pages and charts missing. The main documents of interest from the CD are:

* A 3 page report by the Policia Judiaria (undated, but probably 4th May 2007) listing call records retrieved from the handsets of Mr and Mrs McCann
* A detailed (and excellent report) by Inspector Paulo Dias, Inspector of UNI-Sector de Análise, Lisbon, dated 9th November 2007
* Schedules provided by Vodafone on 14th December 2007 covering a period from 29th April 2007 for Gerald McCann, David Payne, Rachael Mampilly, broken into four separate sections for incoming and outgoing telephone calls, incoming and outgoing SMS traffic
* A second report by Inspector Dias dated 5th February 2008, containing time bars, link charts and maps pinpointing where the “Tapas 9’s” sets were when they activated antennae
* A third report by Inspector Dias dated 2nd June 2008 which includes details of activations of the Luz and other mobile antenna from 28th April 2007 to September 2007
* The Rogatory Letter requests and correspondence dated from 5th December 2007 to May 2007 and responses from the Home Office in April and May 2008

The PJ used a program, called the “Analyst’s Notebook” as well as “Excel” to handle what were very large datasets. Inspector Dias pointed out that “Excel” was far from ideal, because of its limited capacity and it seems that much of the data provided was paper based and had to be rekeyed. Also the main focus of the research was limited to the evening of Thursday 3rd May 2007. But, despite the problems, the PJ’s work is impressive, innovative and very detailed. For example, there is a brilliant analysis (which unfortunately led nowhere) based on the hypothesis of two abductors each working with mobiles in the Ocean Club area immediately before Madeleine was reported missing. There is another excellent piece of work which tracks down a misrouted call, from Swansea, to Kate McCann at 11.21 on Wednesday 2nd May 2007.

However, there are potentially serious omissions:
