To expand, would the seats/cushions be weighted down?
Because the seat cushions are designed to float.
Would the chairs/seats hold together or be blown apart? Combination?

The planes that land on the deck of an aircraft carrier are specifically built to land on an aircraft carrier. You can't just land any old plane on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

The surveillance planes are a different type of plane altogether. And it is doubtful their pilots are cross trained to land on the deck of a carrier.

Here's a link about landing on a carrier:

-------------------------

There are five "carrier museums" in the U.S. which are decommissioned aircraft carriers that you can tour. Well worth doing if you have the opportunity. This is the one I visited:

(The Yorktown - a WWII-Vietnam era carrier)

Because of my late husband's carrier service, we also got to tour a brand new carrier prior to it's initial cruise in around 2005. At the time of it's launch it was the largest ever but since others have been even larger. I will say - they are just amazing.

If they do positively identify the pieces as having come from 370, I wonder when they would release that information? I mean, I am thinking first they would want to actually physically take out of the water and completely verify. And verify exactly what part of the plane it's from. Maybe they need some specialists to do that (figure out what part of plane). I believe it's only after that that they would actually release any news or have a press conference, IMO.

***also, take exact measurements so they could give to reporters.

From what I saw from last press conference, the Aussies will be prepared with all the detailed information like specific measurements when they have their next presser.

So I am thinking at least 2 or 3 more days?

My thoughts, exactly! There needs to be a stationary vessel where search planes can land, refuel, and take off. An aircraft carrier in the area would help expedite a more economical and efficient search. :moo:

My husband worked on p-3s when he was in the navy. They can't go on carriers they are to large.

The FBI is still working on uncovering the files that were deleted on February 3 from the pilot's simulator. The results may reveal more information.

If the airplane has not been found, the investigation is back to square one unless new evidence surfaces.

AU officially.

Oz is commonly used slang.

It's more the way we say it, not the spelling.

It's where I sleep - lol:floorlaugh:

i went on a contiki holiday to europe years ago and our group was mostly aussies... very very friendly people. and i'm still calling my sunglasses "sunnies" and talking about when i went to "uni" lol

:seeya:

Lol.

Om when chanting sounds like oh-uuuummm.

Aus (short for Australia) when said sounds like OZ.

Not so long ago, most Countries, their States and Provinces, had 3 letter abbreviations, not 2. So, AUS was Australia, USA was United State of America, and so on. Hence the OZ nickname from saying AUS.

hehe Kiwis say "uni" too and put a y or ies after everything like Aussies do

Sonar buoys are being lowered to help size up currents and temperatures to determine movement of objects (then they may be able to determine how far debris travelled over the past three days). Per CNN.

UOTE=Woe.be.gone;10359778]My thanks button is being uncooperative again. Still can't figure out why it works some of the time but not others.

On the sad topic of bodies, what would happen if they were all seatbelted at the time of the crash?[/QUOTE]

I would think passengers would be still in the seats if they start to float. Which after 14 days, is quite possible. Or the impact of the crash could cause the seat belts to come undone and they won't be with the seats. The impact can also cause the passengers to be thrown out of their seats.

I don't know if the seats would still be together. I'm guessing the impact of hitting the water would cause everything to break apart.

Hehe, nice! Yes, I never get enough of Paris, I love it here and I'm right smack bang in the middle by the river and the island, it would be perfect if only New Zealand wasn't so so far away
