Interesting post , Cariis, regarding the ATC tapes... I sense a major CYA mode coming from Russia.

Also haven't heard anything about passenger's possible phone conversations/texts with friends or relatives right up to the moment of the crash.
Some peeps just cannot put their phones down or at least have to be texting.

This may have been discussed at length, so I'll need to backtrack and catch up --- was there any reason why the pilot flew farther north from the designated flightpath ? It's been said he was experienced and there's been no indication he had any problems that would affect his flying that day. (not trying to point fingers at the pilot(s).)
MOO
------ be back tomorrow... have to get to bed.

Dutch Parliament will interrupt vacation - this is news the Dutch have been waiting for.

"The U.N. Security Council is considering a draft resolution to condemn the "shooting down" of a Malaysian passenger plane in Ukraine, demand armed groups allow access to the crash site, and call on states in the region to cooperate with an international investigation.

Australia - which lost 28 citizens - circulated a draft text, seen by Reuters, to the 15-member Security Council late on Saturday and diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it could be put to a vote as early as Monday."

#BREAKING: Rebels say will 'guarantee safety' of #MH17 crash site monitors if Kiev agrees truce

"if"

I notice there is a second part to this tweet/news ...

#MH17 2/2 This two days after rebel military leader Strelkov sd no ceasefire needed.

#MH17 1/2 Rebel leader Purgin says they will guarantee safety of int investigators if Kiev agrees ceasefire

Oh boy ...

The "black boxes" aka the data recorders are in the tail of the aircraft, because this is best place to keep them. The rebels say they don't have the data recorders, they probably do have them, they might be rebels but they would know enought to know possession of the data recorders would give them bargaining power. For the moment they have the wreckage, the remains, the luggage and all the passports and identification, and the data recorders, all we can do is try to reason with them.
I don't think all the rebels are dangerous and unreasonable, obviously some of them are out of control, hopefully someone can reason with them or their leaders.

Does that mean the Russian citizens are in agreement that this plane should have been shot down? Surely not.

IMO it means that the people fired the missile were Russian citizens. They did it in Ukrainian territory though.

I hadn't heard about this:

On Thursday a Twitter account for the "Donetsk People's Republic" issued several posts claiming to have seized a missile system from the Ukrainian army.

"@dnrpress: self-propelled Buk surface-to-air missiles systems have been seized by the DNR from (Ukrainian) surface-to-air missile regiment A1402," the Twitter post said.

No, in the news article I posted above US & Ukraine intelligence said individuals who fired missile are Russian nationals. Rebels as assumed.

Yes .. that's the one the Ukraine's said didn't exist for them to seize, it is believed this story is a plant to explain the rebels possession of the weapon without giving up the fact it was supplied by Russia.

"Some of the militia have been seen wearing new watches .. presumably from the victims" ... Ch 7 TV news

Some #MH17 bodies are being held in refrigerator cars at the Torez train station. Unclear how many. Stench awful. Can't go in without gear.
