The grandfather of missing Nora Quoirin refuses to believe the teen walked away from the Malaysian jungle resort they were staying at.

Police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said evidence collected from Nora’s siblings suggests that she left the home through an open window.

Her grandfather Sylvain Quoirin, who is mayor of Venisy in north-central, said: ‘Nora disappeared in extremely mysterious conditions since she was sleeping in the room with her sister and brother.’

The family had planned to stay in Malaysia for two weeks, her grandfather said, and Nora was ‘absolutely not’ in the habit of taking off.

‘This is a young girl with a mild handicap who is rather timid, reserved. She is someone very fearful,’ Sylvain said.

The grandfather said he understands that the French ambassador has met with high-level Malaysian officials over the case.

He went on: ‘I dare believe that we are going to find her because enormous means have been put in place.

‘Things are being done seriously now.’

I’m sure the original report said the window to Nora’s room was open leading everyone to believe she’d been taken through that window, climbed out or an abductor had climbed in. We now know the open window was actually downstairs, this is why I’m inclined to believe Nóra was actually sleeping downstairs on the sofa and not in the loft room with her siblings. Those stairs are terrifying and I just can’t see the parents taking such a risk with a child who has limited mobility having to navigate them at any time, let alone in the pitch black needing the loo.

I haven't seen any MSM reports on what specific disabilities she has, but is it possible she has autism and is drawn to water like many autistic kids? Vacations are a big change in routine that could upset any kid, but one on the spectrum can be especially affected. Maybe Nora would do something out of character when confronted with a big change of environment, like try going for a swim at night unsupervised.
Nora Anne was born with holoprosencephaly, a malformation that causes her to have a smaller brain and led to learning and physical disabilities.

It seems like unless there's a breakthrough soon we'll be going round in circles here for months.! Most people on here either think the following happened and some problems I have with each scenario.

1. Nora was abducted by someone

Problems with this scenario:
  • How would the abductor know kids were in those beds if they had only arrived that day
  • How could Nora be removed from her bed across from her siblings without anyone waking up
  • How could they carry Nora down the spiral staircase and out the narrow window (She's a teenager and is quite tall)
  • Where and how did they bring her without anyone noticing, either into a car or into the jungle?

2. Nora left on her own accord and ended up lost in the jungle

Problems with this scenario:
  • Parents claim she cannot open the window and never goes anywhere alone
  • Unlikely to get far because of her disability
  • Not wearing shoes, and only nightwear
  • It was dark for most of the time until sunrise at 7am (She was noticed missing at approx 8am).

3. Nora left on her own accord and fell into water

Problems with this scenario:
  • Parents claim she cannot open the window and never goes anywhere alone
  • River seems quite shallow and rocky, possible to drown in, but a body would likely be spotted with relative ease.
  • The lake on site isn't near the Sora house she was staying in
  • The fish pond seems to be located on site but in private property and likely fenced off.

I don’t know. The family would have mentioned Nora’s additional needs but I’d expect the booking to be the same as any other reservation. Your post seemed to be hinting at something more sinister.

I think only if they needed stair gates in place or wheel chair access etc, why would they feel it necessary to mention her "special needs "?

Hi all, just joining the discussion, just joined in general. Thanks for the great info. here on this particular case which has intrigued me.

I'm pretty suspicious of the entire episode of missing/poss abducted, now that I've seen the above photos of the chalet and the spiral staircase! That to me looks like a bad choice for a family with 3 kids and one with some mobility issues. Red flag (sorry to be cliché spreading here) when things don't add up as much as they don't with this case.

I will keep reading the updates.

Thanks again

You're not alone in thinking this, Marty.

I think you’d want to be aware of any risks before you arrived e.g. a spiral stair case, toilets, location of beds, general accessibility for someone with additional needs

Well according to her parents, Nora had mobility problems, so considering the type of holiday and terrain, I’m sure it would have been mentioned or maybe it wasn’t...who knows!? Like everyone else on this thread I’m simply guessing

Assuming Nora was sleeping upstairs----

There are numerous posts here regarding Nora's ability, albeit likely with some difficulty, to descend the spiral staircase.

So, let me reverse this. How did Nora get UP the stairs?

1.) On her own?
2.) With a parent spotting her from behind?
3.) Carried by a parent? At Nora's age and size, it seems she would be heavy and it would be awkward for a parent to accomplish this.

If she went up on her own, she likely could have found her way back down. Otherwise, I'm not sure she could have descended them on her own, unless maybe she was taught to scoot down on her rear, step by step. If she was abducted, I suspect she was carried down the stairs.

Most parents would mention if their child has additional needs, especially holidaying somewhere so specialist. The resort would usually ask anyway.

I saw a picture of the spiral staircase on twitter, can't find it now but it looked a nightmare for anyone who has small children , disabilities, elderly or a wine or 3!
I so agree! Maybe she wasn’t supposed to come down them until morn or she needed to use the bathroom. Someone would need to help her, though.
Granted, I do not know what she could do with the mobility issue. It’s all jmo.

Commenting on Nora Anne's case, the Orang Asli community cited two previous incidents where individuals got lost in the jungle area surrounding the resort and said both were found within 24 hours.

They indicated that the police canine unit would have detected her scent if she had fainted or anything untoward happened while she was lost.

Members of the community, who described the surrounding jungle as their “playground”, also said they have searched various areas and pointed out the vicinity around the search zone where the terrain is difficult and dangerous.

They stressed that if Nora Anne was still around, she would be wandering near the 2km river down the hill or by the road side.

Because the police had searched the hilly terrain, the Orang Asli viewed that it did not make sense for her to continue hiking upwards to the hilly jungle area.

I would think they would look at all information about the resort so knew exactly what the accommodation was like. There are very clear pictures of the house which have been posted on here.

I guess so but that is usually clear from the description of the accommodation.

I think if she was my child, I’d be over cautious, but then I like to be organised when going anywhere with children.

There isn’t that much info to me.

If she did use those stairs, the obvious way would be to shuffle down on her bum. Getting up them would be a little easier. I’m assuming Nora was able to use her own stairs at home.

Oh, I think her mom is probably pretty organized judging by what I have read about her. They may have had friends or family stay there before, it's hard to judge by not a lot of info.
