forensic anthropologist who identified the remains of the Oklahoma City bombing victims and the boys and men murdered by John Wayne Gacy is weighing in on last week's discovery of a body in the Des Plaines River.

Dr. Clyde Snow says that even though DNA may help identify the remains, what’s left of the skeleton itself may yield some clues as to what happened, “Very often the bones turn out to be the best witnesses”.

Dr. Snow, who has not been called in as a consultant, says by now, investigators may have an idea of what happened to the deceased, if the clues are there.

"You would be looking for signs of injury that show up on bones.” Dr. Snow tells Newsradio 780, “In other words, you might find the obvious thing, of course, would be gunshot wounds.”

Drew Peterson calls into Mancow radio program from jail
Drew: "My Cuddling Abilities Have Been Taken Away"

"I got a lot of buddies here that are real anxious to, you know, wash my back in the shower."

And so began Drew Peterson's collect call from the Will County Jail in Joliet to The Mancow Show on Wednesday.

For just over seven disgusting minutes, the accused wife killer joked about prison life and the absence of the comforts of home.

"It's just creepy. It's just weird, man," Mancow said at one point. "This guy's sitting in jail calling our stupid show."

That humor was then called into question and quickly explained by Drew:

"All these things are being used against me. You know, it's just like, they say I'm taking this light or, you know, it's a very terrible circumstance. But we always deal with circumstances through humor. It's just basically how you survive it. I'm no different now than I was when I was working a policman on the street," Peterson said. "It just means that I'm dealing with it, and that's how I'm coping."

Body found in Des Plaines River is not Peterson or Stebic

DNA tests performed by state police reveal it was a man's body found last week washed ashore on the Des Plaines River near Channahon.

Illinois State Police have yet to identify the man, whose corpse was found on May 20 on the river's shore. Master Sgt. Tom Burek did not release further details about the man, including his age.

This ends speculation that the body could have been either Lisa Stebic of Plainfield or Stacy Peterson of Bolingbrook. Their high-profile disappearances attracted national headlines.

DNA shows headless body found near river was male

Authorities say DNA tests show a headless, armless skeleton found along the Des Plaines River last week was from an unidentified male.

Speculation had swirled about whether the badly decomposed body was one of two women whose disappearances have drawn national media attention.

Illinois State Police said in a statement Wednesday that an investigation to identify the remains is under way.

The Will County coroner has said the person was dead for several months or more. Results of an autopsy last week were inconclusive, and DNA tests were conducted.

Remains not Peterson or Stebic: police
May 27, 2009
<snipped>
The remains, discovered May 20 alonog the south shore of the river, approximately a mile west of the Interstate 55 bridge, near the Big Basin Marina, were sent to the ISP Forensic Crime Lab for DNA analysis, and it has been determined they are that of an unidentified male, according to an ISP release.

"An investigation to identify the remains is under way," the release said.

The office of Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil originally reported, "The partial skeletal remains consisted of a rib cage, spinal column and partial left and right femur bones. The head, arms and below the knee extremities were disarticulated."

Also, a forensic investigation continues as to whether the disarticulation is a result of a postmortem (after death) artifact or antemortem injury.

The coroner's office, he said, was given a conservative time frame in receiving forensic DNA and forensic anthropology results of approximately two weeks.

The former cop, suspected in his third wife's death, called collect to WLS Radio's Mancow & Cassidy show on Wednesday and offered snippets of a comedy routine he's working on.

Peterson, who once proposed a "Win a Date With Drew" contest, offered a jail version called "Win a Conjugal Visit with Drew."

He also joked about prison showers, his legal fees and his "bling" handcuffs, saying humor is how he deals with stress.

Dealing with murder suspect's celebrity, however, is a bit of a nuisance, they admit

Inmate No. 20090003825 has been locked up inside the Will County jail for only three weeks but has already been interviewed by Matt Lauer on the "Today" show and cracked jokes on WLS-AM's "Mancow & Cassidy."

Drew Peterson, who is accused of killing third wife Kathleen Savio, has kept a high profile even behind the concrete walls of the Will County Adult Detention Facility in Joliet. Jail officials are trying to reassure the public calling in to complain that Peterson, who has pleaded not guilty, isn't receiving any special treatment, but they acknowledge that his bizarre media celebrity is something of a nuisance.

Peterson all jokes on radio show

No matter what he did to third wife Kathleen Savio or fourth wife Stacy Peterson, Drew Peterson wasn't killing anyone with his standup comedy routine on the radio Thursday.

Peterson, jailed and facing murder charges in connection with Savio's death, called in collect to Mancow Muller's show on WLS to tell some jokes.

Mancow mentioned that Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, promised Peterson would deliver some of his comedic stylings over the phone.

Peterson gets credit for trying, but that's about it.

Peterson is due back in court June 17, and with any luck, might reprise his comedy act as he is led from a county paddy wagon, just as he did before his arraignment May 8.

Drew Peterson back in court over judge in high-profile murder case
Monday, Jun. 01, 2009
<snipped>
Drew Peterson is back in court for a hearing on whether yet another new judge should be appointed in the high-profile murder case.

The Will County state's attorney's office says the main issue Monday is defense lawyers' bid to replace Judge Carla Alessio-Policandriotes (pahl-ee-KAN'-dree-oh-tihs). Two weeks ago, she was picked to replace another judge at the prosecutor's request.

Prosecutors say other motions could also be dealt with Monday, including a state request to seal discovery.

Another new judge in ex-officer Drew Peterson case

There's another new judge in former Illinois police officer Drew Peterson's murder case.

Chief Judge Gerald Kinney granted a defense request Monday to replace Judge Carla Alessio-Policandriotes (pahl-ee-KAN'-dree-oh-tihs). The case will now be handled by Judge Stephen White.

It was only last month that Alessio-Policandriotes was named to replace another judge, that time at the prosecutor's request. Shortly afterward, she refused to reduce the defendant's $20 million bail.

A 3rd judge for the Drew Peterson case

Will County Chief Judge Gerald Kinney today assigned the case to Circuit Judge Stephen White.

Peterson, who has pleaded not guilty, appeared twice in court Monday; first before Judge Kinney and then later in front of White.

Dressed in a dark gray jail jersey and pants, and shackled and manacled, Peterson appeared sober and attentive. Aside from the media and lawyers, the hearings appeared to draw little interest.

Judge White scheduled a hearing for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, to hear the prosecution's motion to seal discovery filings and an anticipated objection to the state's motion by the defense.

Brodsky To Oppose Seal Discovery Motion

A defense attorney in Drew Peterson's murder case says he'll oppose a motion by prosecutors to keep evidence under wraps as the legal process against the former Bolingbrook police sergeant proceeds.

A newly assigned judge in the case, Stephen White, will hear a state request to seal discovery at a hearing on Wednesday. Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, says he'll argue that it'll be difficult to keep evidence from the public in the high-profile case. And he says he wants the process to be as transparent as possible.

Will County Judge Stephen White ordered Peterson's lawyers on Wednesday to give him phone numbers of family, friends and attorneys that Peterson calls.
White says if Peterson wants to call somebody not on the list, he has to notify the jail.

Peterson has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the 2004 death of his third wife Kathleen Savio. He's also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy. The judge's order comes after Peterson called a radio show from jail.

White also wants to be notified on all interviews and press releases involved in the case.
The judge also ordered that the names of witnesses and potential witnesses be sealed.

The judge set an Aug. 24 trial date. Brodsky, who can ask for a continuance, said it was a realistic date as long as Peterson is in custody.

UPDATED: Peterson judge limits phone contact, interviews

Asst. State's Atty. Nicole Moore raised the issue of Joel Brodsky, one of Peterson's attorneys, playing a card game with his client 10 minutes into an afternoon visit on May 24.

Defense attorney Andrew Abood said Brodsky was trying to help Peterson relax before making "some very serious decisions about his case." --In their court filing, Peterson's attorneys described him as being "sluggish, slow to respond and forgetful" due to being locked up in isolation. But White said the games would have to go.

Also during Wednesday's hearing, prosecutors turned over three cardboard boxes containing nearly 9,500 pages of documents to defense attorneys; defense attorneys have until June 8. White ordered a list of possible witnesses--which defense attorneys said included hundreds of people--to be sealed.
A trial was set for Aug. 24.
