Large crowd expected for April Millsap's funeral

By Mitch Hotts, The Macomb Daily

A large crowd is expected to show up when visitation and funeral services are held later this week for slain teen April Millsap.

Viewing will be held Thursday at Tiffany-Young and Hauss Funeral Home with a service scheduled for Friday in St. Mary Mystical Rose Church, both in Armada.

Funeral director Ardell Hauss said people in the small village in northern Macomb County are known for baking cookies and offering condolences to people who have lost loved ones, even if they don’t know each other.

“This truly is a wonderful community that is very supportive of its people,” Hauss said. “Our role here is to help serve the family at this time of mourning and try to do whatever we can to ease their pain.” ...

From WXYZ Detroit (Channel 7 News):

Headline:
Police: Millsap family and boyfriend "eliminated" as suspects, van no longer sought in investigation.

Snippets from article:
Investigators tell 7 Action News, April Millsap's family and her boyfriend, have been "eliminated" completely as suspects in her murder.

Earlier in the day, police said they were not being "considered suspects".

7 Action News also learned Tuesday that the grey van police had been looking for previously is no longer a part of the investigation. The lead was vetted and it turned out to lead nowhere.

Investigators told 7 Action News Investigator Jonathan Carlson, their sole focus is now on finding any motorcycle rider who may have been on the trail at the time of April's murder. The color of the motorcycle does not matter, they now say, as they previously were looking for a specific kind.

ARMADA, MI -- In a rural community about 35 miles northeast of Detroit, the investigation into the mysterious death of 14-year-old middle school student April Millsap continues.

State police, who are members of a task force searching for the killer, said in a statement Tuesday that detectives have interviewed relatives and Millsap's boyfriend, "but they are not considered suspects in her death." ...

I watched Channel 4's 4:00 news during which there was no update on the Millsap case. On the 5:00 report, all they mentioned is that family members and the boyfriend have been cleared and that the van is no longer considered to be involved with the crime. Funeral arrangements mentioned, as well.

Storms coming this way tonight. Enjoy your evening.

“We are pretty confident that we are zeroing in on the person who did this and the person knows that as well,” Shaw said.

The van is out.... but they do want to locate a man who was riding a small, dark-colored motorcycle that may have been riding on the trail.

“We are in this for the long haul,” Shaw said. “We have compiled a lot of information. We are a heck of a lot closer (to making an arrest) than we were on Thursday.”

Very interesting, I can't immediately recall a case where LE calls out the murderer so confidently. This case is bothering me a lot and I hope they're right.

Seriously, who has time to text: “Omg. Wtf. I think I’m being kidnapped.”, if they are being kidnapped?

Doesn't that strike anyone else as extremely odd?

I wonder if she used voice to text on her phone?

I know a lot of people who don't do anything but that now, unless they're in a place they can't speak out loud obviously. It'd have been easy to SAY it as a text while trying to get out of somewhere quickly - managing to do it undetected a whole lot easier than calling, yet also far more quickly than pausing to actually type it out.

I wonder the exact wording and time of that text and how long after that text did they start to look for her.

If it WAS NOT April who sent the text (as in her killer(s)) I wonder if there's a possibility that it was sent to her BF hoping HE would come out looking for her, thinking she was messing around or even thinking she was just trying to get him to come meet her or something, and then either also try to do something to him as well, or even to try to make it seem like he did it?

In other words, could the fact that he forwarded the text and it wasn't another teen alone out looking for her actually have prevented another victim that night?

I could see why the text truly could have been from her in many ways, but I can also see how it could have been from whoever killed April to try to continue some plan (and doing it to get her found quickly just seems odd to me...which is what makes me wonder if it was a lure?)

This is really sad. My family lives in that area and my brother is close to same age. We were in Armada once last year when I was there too.

Looks like they ruled out the van because LE keeps asking for info on the motorbike. Someone said they had the van's plate # too so that must have already checked out.

Teen girl's dog leads joggers to her dead body?

Authorities are searching for clues in the death of a 14-year-old April Millsap, whose body was found off a path on the Macomb Orchard Trail after she took her dog out for a walk.

Michigan State Police have released a composite sketch of a person of interest in the murder of a 14-year-old girl who was found dead after taking her dog for a walk.

April Millsap’s dog Penny led joggers to the girl’s body around 8:30 p.m. on July 24, CNN affiliate WZZM reported. Authorities say the body was located in a wooded area off a path on the Macomb Orchard Trial in Armada.

April’s death has been ruled a homicide, but police have not commented on how she died.

CNN affiliate WDIV reports April sent her boyfriend a disturbing text message while she was out walking her dog that said, “I think I’m about to be abducted.”

The person of interest is described as a white male, taller in stature...

interesting thoughts TravelBug. I never thought of the voice texting possibility because I don't use that feature, but my husband does so your post just made me  How did I not think of that possibility?

I wonder where the details for the composite sketch came from???

From Click on Detroit:

FBI executes search warrant in connection to Armada teen's murder.

The FBI is executing a search warrant at a house in rural Wales Township in connection to the murder of a 14-year-old Armada girl.

The house is near Wales Center and Marquette roads in Wales Township, which is about 15 miles west of Port Huron in St. Clair County.

The map in the Click on Detroit article above points to a specific address. (Hover over the ! triangle in the middle to see what I mean.)

8501 Marquette Rd
Wales, MI 48027-3701

However, I don't know if that was intentional. But still, the info is there in MSM so I'm leaving it unless a mod vetoes.

I did. I tried to drop the marker as close to that addy as possible but in the description link I was general "LE is searching in this area per this link" sort of thing. If you have a google account please feel free to add to the map or tweak it. I think it is set to collaborate.
