The whole notion of the abduction happening elsewhere, then the perps carefully staging the Delmar residence, etc., is a bit much, adding unnecessary complications to what's better-understood as a simple get in, get them, get out, and get gone operation.

Also, the graverobbers didn't do this by themselves; if that's your scenario (it is mine), better include some heavies and some hired muscle. This wasn't some wee-hours raid on a midnight mauseoleum. This was an act to silence those who might implicate the bigs.

Can anybody confirm if Stacy had a handbag with her that night? Janis said in many interviews that, when she found Stacy 's bra and shorts at Delmar, she knew something was wrong because that meant her daughter had left the house with a t-shirt and panties. I quote:
"Her shirt and her panties were all that she had," McCall said.
Also, it is highly risky to abduct three women from a house. I would say more than staging the house. The people involved in this crime could
have driven the girl´s cars (could that explain why Suzie´s car was parked in the wrong place?).

They were all lined up: First there was Sherrill’s, then Suzie’s and Stacy’s was next, sitting on top of Suzie’s overnight bag

She had to have a bag for a swimming stuff if they was indeed going to the pool that day. Not like she needed much else hence it seems the one outfit.

Just out of curiosity, who do you think was the target?

A. Sherrill
B. Suzie
C. Stacy
D. A & B
E. B & C
F. A & C
G. All three were targeted
H. Random crime; none of the above

I'm going with 'A.' Why? Info she learned from clients made her a threat.

My second choice would be 'D,' with Suzie being the direct threat.

'C' would be the least likely, imho. Classic wrong place, wrong time.

I think 'H' unlikely, because of the neatness of the crime. But....maybe.

I think something happened that wasn't expected and things just rolled the wrong way.

I'll take D, but with Suzie as the principal. I'm stuck on those graverobbers and their bigger pals.

Thanks for this, it really does help when we share common ground, no matter our answers (those of us who treat this seriously).

Off the immediate topic, but have any of you Springfield-area sleuths (or anyone) ever come across the name "Doc" in your investigating the case?

"E"-I think they were spotted by a serial killer while driving home from the party. The SK was prepared to abduct and kill and was on the prowl for victims.

Basic Information

Over 8 years ago, I put together a bit of a timeline, based on the police report and various media reports. It may provide a starting point for those who want an updated timeline. The original file has formatting problems. I've cleaned that up, added white space and bolded times. Nothing here outside of the police report is verifiably true, since decades-old media reports can be and will be incomplete and inaccurate. But this list reflects what was in the police report and mainstream media accounts:

I put this together for submission to the old forensic astrology thread. I would also say that Robert Cox was then and still remains a top suspect on my list.

Timeline, taken from police report unless otherwise stated:
June 6, 1992 Stacy McCall (4/23/74) and Suzanne Streeter (3/9/73) attended high school graduation exercises. Stacy’s parents, Janis McCall (10/21/47) and Stewart McCall (no birthdate on police report) and Suzanne’s mother, Sherrill Levill (11/1/44) attended the graduation.

June 6, 9:15 or 9:30 pm. Sherrill spoke to a friend on the telephone. She was home that night varnishing a piece of furniture.

June 6, Around 10:30 p.m. Stacy calls home to say the girls will stay at Janelle Kirby’s.

June 6, 11:15: "Suzanne's mother, Sherrill Levitt, was last heard from at approximately 11:15 p.m. on 06/06/92 when she talked with a friend about painting a chest of drawers. Levitt's car, purse, keys, etc., were left at the residence and it appeared as though her bed had been slept in when friends and police arrived to check the residence."
Three Missing Women | Springfield, MO - Official Website

The following information comes from the police incident report, Missing Persons, taken June 7, 1992at 10:48 pm.:

Janelle Kirby and Mike Henson stated they last saw Stacy McCall and Suzanne Streeter at a graduation party in Battlefield Missouri, around 2:00 a.m. on June 7. The party was on Coach Drive in Battlefield, MO. Kirby, Henson, and the two girls left the party and went to Kirby’s home on Butterfield Place. (Kirby stated in media interviews that Suzie and Stacy left because Kirby’s family had company and they didn’t want to sleep on the floor.) Kirby and Henson stated Stacy and Suzanne told them they were going to go to Suzanne’s house later in the morning and they would all to White Water [water amusement park in Branson. MO]...Kirby and Henson stated that Stacy and Suzanne then left, driving their own vehicles" (incident report).

Around 2:30 a.m., June 7: Speculative time Stacy and Suzie arrive at 1717 Delmar.

June 7, 1992 Janelle Kirby stated she makes first call to 1717 Delmar house around 7:30 a.m. (One media reports states the calls start around 8 am).

Janelle Kirby and Mike Henson state they arrive at the house around 12:30 pm and find porch light globe broken with bulb intact and light on and the front door closed but not locked. They enter house to find the TV set on in Suzie’s room along with all three purses, which had car keys to their three cars and the house keys. Sherrill’s purse had $800 in it.

Kirby and Henson state they return to 1717 Delmar around 7:30 pm according to police report.

Janis McCall states she and husband arrive around 9 pm. Police report states both Mr. and Mrs. McCall at residence, along with two other daughters, when they arrive. Four other people are listed on the police report. (A media reports that 18 people entered the house, ;unwittingly interfering with potential evidence").

Springfield PD is contacted by Janis McCall. No time given. First officer arrives. Report taken 10:48 pm by second officer who arrived.

Report states nothing in the house seemed to indicate a struggle.& Janis McCall was concerned that Stacy would not leave without her purse and medication for migraine headaches and depression. Officer Gault and [the reporting officer] were advised by the subjects present that they had already cleaned up the glass and looked into purses and around the residence prior to our arrival. Stacy’s clothes and jewelry are found in Suzie’s room, with Suzie's overnight bag.

Possible later sightings June 7: Between 1 and 3 a.m. at George’s Steakhouse [disputed and usually discounted.] Around sunrise, someone looking like Suzie seen driving a van.

Other events as reported in the media:
The girls had originally intended to drive to Branson the night of June 6 and spend the night in a hotel. They changed their minds. Stacy called her mother to say that she was staying at the Kirby house.

A server at George’s Steakhouse reported seeing the women between 1 and 3 am on June 7. The three arrived and departed together. Suzie appeared to be drunk and the women were with three men. Police received 3 calls about this sighting.

Janis McCall calls the Kirby house, speaks to Janelle’s sister and learns that Stacy stayed at Suzie’s house. She calls Suzie’s house and leaves message on the answering machine for Stacy to call her. Janis continues to leave messages on Sherrill and Suzie’s machine.

Sherrill’s Yorkshire terrier Cinnamon was in the house when Kirby and Henson arrived.

Suzie’s overnight bag was with the purses. [I don’t know where I saw this; I recall a big debate about this a few years ago on an earlier thread.]

Someone erases an obscene call received Friday, June 5 and recorded on the answering machine. Kirby and Henson hear two other such calls on Sunday June 7 while they are in the house.

A van (moss-green, blue or dirty brown) with a girl who looked like Suzie who

looked scared was reportedly seen after sunrise on Sunday, June 7.

Suzie was scheduled to testify in a trial against three people, including her former boyfriend, involved in robbing graves.

Robert Craig Cox, in prison in Texas, has been questioned about involvement in the killings. He was once on death row in Florida for rape and murder of a young woman but released when he won an appeal. He was living in Springfield at the time of the disappearances.

December 1992: anonymous caller phones America’s Most Wanted, believed to have vital information about the case but was disconnected and never called back.

A Grand Jury considers three suspects with criminal records, but none are indicted. Testimony is also taken concerning Robert Craig Cox.

Here is my post from 1 April 2020 (post #147 on page 8) explaining my theory on motive & what happened:

Neal Falls, Man Killed By Escort, Had Cache Of Weapons And List Of Prostitutes, Police Say | HuffPost

I have been following this case for quite a while, though I rarely post here. Since a lot of theories have been put forth, I wanted to share some of my theory on what MAY have happened. Before I start, I will add that I am now retired, but I did work in the criminal justice field for 37 years (police officer, Probation officer, parole officer and pretrial services). However, I have never seen a case quite like this one.

After reading all I could find on the case and watching all the videos, podcasts and documentaries, I believe that the women were abducted and subsequently killed by a serial killer who set out that night looking for a victim or victims. He was prepared to abduct and may have had the tools with him to do the job-something like Neal Falls had with him (see the link above). He may or may not have known one, two or all three of the women. While searching for potential victims, he may have seen seen Suzie and/or Stacy as they drove to Suzie's home after leaving the party. He also may have been someone who knew one of the women and was stalking them in particular that night. He also may have known one or more of the women and they may not have known him. I think he simply followed them at a distance where they didn't detect him. After they got inside the home, he may have used a ruse (gas company official, police officer impersonator, etc) of some sort to get them to open the door or he may have simply knocked on the door and they responded by opening the door enough for them to see out and he forced it open once they did. Once inside, he could have brandished a firearm and ordered them to lay down on the floor and once they did, he either handcuffed or tied them with a rope and individually loaded them in his vehicle. Somewhere in the process of loading them, the front porch cover was broken. He may or may not have had an accomplice. Some have asked how he could have controlled three women even with a gun. It would depend on how intimidating and convincing he was. Plus, you never know how you will react when a gun is pulled on you until it happens. I know this from personal experience. They may have been too scared to resist. If he had a sedan, he may have simply loaded them into the trunk of the car. Or if he had a van, he could have tied them to the seat or if he had an accomplice, he could have put them in the floor and sat on them where they would not have been visible if another vehicle pulled up beside them.

I believe the motive for all of this was sexual assault and a serial killer. He was looking for women to rape and to kill. They were driven to a different location where the assault and probably the murder occurred. The bodies were disposed of in a place where they wouldn't be found. The perp or perps didn't want to take a chance on the women identifying them so they were killed. Again, I think the killer had planned to do all of this. I am uncertain if the three victims were his target or if he was just on the prowl for a victim and he saw them as they drove toward Delmarr.

@ Missouri Mule: I believe there is a good chance of your theory of a Florida connection is correct.

Again, all of this is just my opinion. Feel free to agree or disagree. I always welcome constructive criticism.

Thanks Ted for bumping the story. . I posted this back in 2015, when Falls was killed. He had FOUR set's of handcuffs on him, plus all his " kill kit" in the Subaru. Have you looked into the I-70 Killer ? I believe he is a strong suspect . He moved to KS then the killings started. Then they stopped about a year before his dad died and he moved back west. Became at guard at the Hoover dam , and the women started going missing and dismembered!

Yes, I have considered the I-70 killer could be the perp here, but I don't believe he is. He shot his victims and left them at the scene which is not what happened to the Springfield 3. He did kill two women in Missouri in May of 1992.

I-70 Killer - Wikipedia

I believe that whoever abducted and killed the Springfield 3 used the same M.O. as Falls. The identity if the I-70 killer remains unknown, but, I don't think he is Falls.

Kirby and Henson stated Stacy and Suzanne told them they were going to go to Suzanne’s house later in the morning and they would all to White Water...

Is that supposed to read "...Suzanne's house and later in the morning they would all go to..."?

As it is it kinda reads like Suzie and Stacy would go somewhere before going to Suzie's.

???

So my question is

Kirby and Henson state they return to 1717 Delmar around 7:30 pm according to police report

So I thought the police were not called until 9pm ish so why then is Kirby still noted as wet if she was back at Suzie’s at 7.30pm?

‘That is a question that needs to be answered. Doesn’t pass the smell test.

It seems ridiculous to think she spent most all day out the Hydroslide.
Something just not add up..

That is a good rendition of the timeline.

Recently it was confirmed that Sherrill was often a customer at Cattleman’s Truck Stop. They were said to have very good steaks.

So far as I know, there is no accounting of Sherrill’s whereabouts from the last time she was on the phone about 11:15 PM. It would not be unreasonable that she would have invited out to eat after the work she was involved in prior to that time. I wonder if she was down at Cattleman’s and was driven there. There is no evidence I know of that she used her car that night.

It also opens up the possibility that someone got into the house while she was gone. If there was something there they would have had ample time to go through the house and find what they needed. There is no evidence I know of that the girls had any contact with Sherrill after they arrived. I believe the evidence is overwhelming they did arrive.

It would not be unreasonable to that Suzie was concerned that Sherrill was not in the home when they arrived. When the car or van pulled into the driveway that would possibly explain why the blinds were cracked. If she believed that Sherrill was returning home it would be logical to believe she would open the door expecting to find Sherrill.

All we know for sure about Sherrill is that she left in the print dress. There was an overturned book she was supposed to be reading and an overturned picture frame minus the photo. Beyond the loose dog, we know nothing.

The girl’s whereabouts are virtually proven that night. Sherrill is not.

.

By all accounts , Hydra-slide closed at 6pm . Where they were after that ?? I would have thought since they also lived on the south side of town , they go home and change into dry clothing during the 6-7:30 timeline .

nobody knows as it’s just Janelle’s word on what they did that day.

Her story has a ton on inconsistency’s though and maybe it is down to her being 18/19 and a idiot but I just don’t trust her.
