Thanks EM.

Apparently it is now in police custody. The last headline I saw a few days ago implied it was missing.

"Had anyone tried to export Cecil's head, they would not have obtained the necessary licence for it to leave Zimbabwe. Plus, they would have probably been subject to intense scrutiny "given all the furore around this particular case", said Mark Jones, of the Born Free Foundation.

As it turns out, the head and pelt were seized by police when they raided the house of Theo Bronkhorst, a guide who has since been arrested.

The head and pelt were to be sent to South Africa for export to the US, Jonny Rodrigues, the chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, told the BBC.

He said they were hopeful police would return Cecil's head so it could be mounted at the entrance to Hwange National Park as a memorial to the lost lion."

Oh Dear God, don't mount Cecil's head anywhere. A beautiful sculpture would do and pictures. Please don't repeat the misdeeds of trophy hunters. I find that perverse and disgusting.

There are a very large and passionate group of animal activists in south Florida, some of whom are friends. We've been to various protests together. They would NEVER use dead animals parts (pigs feet) to make a statement. EVER. Which makes me believe that you may be right. I'm not saying that I agree with vigilantism though. Further, the house has been under guard and the moment the guards were not vigilant, the vandalism happened. I find that suspect.

BBM.. Good point. It all seems fishy to me. If this is, in fact, something that Palmer concocted for sympathy, I doubt it will make any difference. Have to wonder where the guy is nowadays. Maybe staying in a Ted Nugent safe house? lol

Agreed! God this whole thing is crazy.

IMO, the pigs' feet thing is a bit suspect. As someone mentioned upthread, this smells like a sympathy ploy.

Fail.

Professional hunter, Theodro Bronkhorst, who allegedly facilitated the killing of iconic lion, Cecil, has roped in an advocate into his defence team after his lawyer, Givemore Muvhiringi, yesterday indicated to the court that the matter was “complex”.

He told magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa that he had briefed Adv Dube, but she could not attend court yesterday as she was tied up at the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court.

“She has prior commitments at the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court hence our prayer that the matter be remanded to September 28 to enable the defence to prepare for trial”.

The magistrate postponed trial to September 28 although the prosecutor, Namatirai Ngwasha, had opposed the application.

As a side note
If I am reading this right she shut down this law firm.

Possibly, but since Palmer is hiding out and waiting for all of this to die down and go away, it wouldn't serve him well to bring attention to to the matter and get the media going on this story by doing something like this.

Meanwhile, it appears that Jericho is taking care of business.

I can't see this dying down significantly for some time to come. At least not to the point where Palmer can resume his dental practice and other aspects of his previous life. I figure he's just going to call it a day, and retire away somewhere, possibly out of the country. His two kids are grown. His wife is independently wealthy. Palmer won't be hurting financially, but he might face psychological obstacles along the transitional highway.

Retiring somewhere out of the country is a nice thought--------> :jail:

lol.. Well, a Zimbabwe prison will definitely present psychological and maybe physiological obstacles along the transitional highway!

It's not directly related to this case of course, but Bangladesh police have just shot six alleged tiger poachers dead. They recovered three Bengal tiger skins in the dead men's hut. Bengal tigers are critically endangered; their numbers have plunged from over 400 a decade ago to just 106 (I guess 103 now) today.

The skins, bones and meat of the tigers are worth a lot of money and I think the most demand comes from China, for 'medicine' and 'charms' made from the flesh and bones.

Has it been posted that South Africa's national airline, SAA, just lifted its embargo on carrying hunting trophies on July 23? That includes lions, tigers, rhinos and elephants.

There's such a porous border between SA and Zim, I'm sure anyone who has trouble shipping trophies from Zimbabwe will just use a South African airline. It all sounds very law-abiding and correct on paper, but I'm not sure authorities have the resources to ensure compliance, from what I've seen of human crime cases there.

I'd have thought a consistent, long-term safari tourist-trade would generate more money than the odd wad of cash from people who want to kill vanishing African wildlife, because I can't see what's supposed to happen once all the big game is killed. I'm not an economist though, so I'll have to take SA authorities word for it, that they know what they're doing, economics-wise.

I was trying to look up the criteria for endangered and extinct, and settled on the Oxford University Natural History Museum's website - for kids, Lol. It's clear and easy to understand though.

What shocked me though was finding out the North American passenger pigeon is extinct, and has been for 100 years. I've seen them mentioned so often in literature, I just presumed America was still full of them. :(

And then there's this.

Zimbabwe has lifted a hastily-imposed countrywide ban on lion, leopard and elephant hunting in the wake of Cecil the lion's death, though it remains in force in a limited area, insiders and a hunters' group say.
