Perverts don't think. They act.
Since the boys were out in a totally unexpected time , there could not be much planning.
See an opportunity. Take it!
There were so many outbuildings at that farm.
Or he could have taken Jacob to the Abbey.
Molesters are brazen.
Look at Austin Sigg or Tyler Holder.
Tyler took a neighbor child right in broad daylight around 2:30 PM. It worked out for him that her parents did not start looking for her for hours.
I wonder if he would have been caught if he didn't do all of the stupid things he did to be noticed
I agree, and I think DR is the best suspect. My frustration lies more so in what happened after DR took Jacob, assuming that's what happened. If it was an unplanned abduction (which I think it was), DR is thinking on the fly. Of course, he could have plotted things out in advance, for what he might do in such a situation. But still, he has to find a place to take Jacob (leaving no evidence), molest him (leaving no evidence), and then kill him/get rid of him (leaving no evidence) knowing all the while that the cops were on their way to swarm the property. Is this possible?
It just makes me think there had to have been some evidence, or that Jacob was right there under LE's noses the entire time! I have not forgotten how badly LE screwed things up. I know the supposed car threw them off for awhile, but if DR did in fact do it, it is just baffling how he's gotten away with it for this long. :banghead:
Or, there was another person involved, which is a theory I'm becoming more and more interested in.
On another note, can we make anything of the fact that the kidnapper didn't kill the other two boys?
One reason for this might be that the gun was a fake--perhaps a gun used at track meets to signal a start, as suggested over the years by several other posters.
Another reason might be that the kidnapper didn't want to leave any evidence tying him to the crime, like shell casings or bullets linked to a gun he may own. He may not want LE to focus on the bodies/scene of the crime. He may not want gunshots to be heard.
Another reason might be that the kidnapper is not a murderer. But, if this was a solo act, we can assume the kidnapper probably killed Jacob. I hate to admit this, but it is the most likely outcome. Why not shoot the other two kids, buying yourself more time?
What can we draw from trying to profile these decisions and actions? The kidnapper leaves two living witnesses. Admittedly, they are scared kids. And he's wearing a mask. The kidnapper knows he can get away quickly. This is one thing that makes me think it's DR. He can disappear into the house or the buildings quickly. He knows the property.
What do the kidnapper's decisions that night tell us?
