If marchers stay on the sidewalks and obey traffic and pedestrian signals, their activity is constitutionally protected even without a permit. Marchers may be required to allow enough space on the sidewalk for normal pedestrian traffic and may not maliciously obstruct or detain passers-by.

Huh. That all sounds so ..... orderly. Stay on sidewalks, obey traffic signals, don't obstruct normal pedestrian traffic or passers-by. It doesn't sound all that difficult to comply with, though. I don't think anyone would object at all to these "protests" if that's what they were doing.

If they're on private property with the owner's permission, for instance at Andy Wurm Tires parking lot across from the FPD, I imagine the permit/keep moving requirement wouldn't apply.

"Permission" lol

The new term for extortion ?

According to Grandma he didn't live there he was just visiting. One would think she would know if he was living with her or not. I guess she could be lying or something.
“He was a good kid. Hedidn’t live around here,” said Desuirea Harris, grandmother of the victim. “He came to visit me and they did that to him for no reason.”

What does 'came to visit' mean? Is that --
-- one afternoon, like Aug 9, stopping by G'ma's apt for milk & cookies w his friend DJ, before returning to Dad's for dinner??
--that summer moving most or all his clothes & personal belongings, e.g. Swisher Sweets, MJ, MD 20/20, rap music making equipment, etc.
(IIRC, one of MB's friends said MB had set up music studio in G'ma's basement, but I'm not sure which G'ma that was)
--for school year, moving ^same^?

What does 'didn't live around here' mean? 'Around here' can be nebulous or speaker-specific.
Ex's:
Someone from small town (pop.<1000 ppl) told me, 'that guy does not live around here', later explained he lives ~5 blocks away.
A west Texan telling me about family that 'lives just around the corner' was describing his relatives ~75 miles away.

IOW, it's all relative. LOL.

It was reported CNN was back in Ferguson last night. Tweets say they're moving around, getting shots of protestors, FPD, etc.

Most apartments these days have very strict rules about how long a person can "visit" before requiring that person to be added to a lease.

Section 8 rules vary by state and housing authority, but I believe on average any guest over 18 staying over two weeks must be reported, and there are procedures to file for exceptions.

Remember the discussion about resources? Here's a link to Missouri's Guide to Housing Assistant Programs: http://dmh.mo.gov/docs/ada/housingbook.pdf

Please be aware that there are many other resources available, including county and local resources. In many cases, signing up for one resource automatically enrolls an individual or family for other resources.

They never married, and Brown, who has two sisters and a brother, bounced between the homes his parents shared with their respective spouses. When his mother moved out of the school district, according to friends, Brown began living with his grandmother in the Canfield Green apartment complex.

Sounds like more than two weeks.

Anyone see any public announcements that various activist groups, politicians, and leaders stand for peace after Johnson's statement?

This was from my previous post wondering about Michael's living arrangements. I think he couch surfed. :(

1) He was visiting grandma, but didn't live there

"They told me how many times my son was shot. Eight," said McSpadden. She said he was visiting his grandmother, who lives in the complex, and was returning from the store.

Livingston walked Daily RFT down Canfield to the low-slung apartment buildings where Brown was living with his grandmother. In the dimly lit front room, the family spoke fondly of the teenager. Some of them sat on the couch that he used as his bed. They say he slept like a rock on it, despite his big frame.

Good boy in a bad 'hood: Mike Mike, as the family called him (pictured with brother Andre, now 7 and sister Deja, now 14) had won a place at college and was told by his mother to 'do what he wanted this summer' as a reward. He chose to stay at his grandmother's house where the aspiring rapper had a makeshift studio

3) Michael lived with his two grandmothers, mother, and father in their respective homes?

Growing up, he lived under one roof with his parents, paternal grandparents and, later, a younger sister.

After his parents split up, he stayed with his mother though he remained close to all of his family, who lived near one another in north St. Louis County.

When his mother moved out of the Normandy District, he moved in with his paternal grandmother so he could remain at that school. But he continued to alternate between his parents and maternal grandmother.

4) Michael lived with friends

Brown stayed at Canfield with friends and, earlier this year, with his grandmother at the adjacent Northwinds apartments.

True but where is the fun and discomfort in that? The majority that I've had the displeasure of viewing want to be in the way/in your face and making you uncomfortable. Hanging out at Wurms shop isn't going to achieve that.

Just hit me: candles, at the FPD protest, may not be the way to go, given many don't seem to understand that they can light flammables on fire. Also, after threats to burn police dept, city hall, and the town, fires set in dumpsters, Molotov cocktails, businesses burned, I'd think seeing the lead agitators with a large crowd holding flames would be disconcerting. It can't be a good idea to have a large crowd impeding traffic around the PD. What if there's a shooting or other event around Ferguson that they need to rush to? I wonder if CNN encouraged a "peaceful gathering" for convenient filming?

Associated Press - Aug. 26: "Brown was a recent graduate of Normandy High School, where classes resumed as scheduled last week. He spent the summer living with his grandmother in the Canfield Green apartment complex, a part of the Riverview Gardens school district. School there and in the nearby Jennings district also started on time one week ago before officials abruptly scrapped classes after a mid-week escalation in violence."

MB started high school at McCluer and ended at the Positive Alternative Learning Center, but walked the aisle to get his "special diploma" at Normandy HS. The two other high schools he attended in between remain a mystery, but one may have been the actual Normandy HS, not the virtual one at the PALC.

Jinx!

Nope.

Not nearly caught up and can't stay.

I just need to vent where it's safe.

Don Lemon... CNN
Predictably going after Chief Jackson... Twisting, spinning. :gaah: :gaah:

I feel so sorry for the beating Jackson has taken, it breaks my heart. He has been between a rock and a hard place since day one, and he could have thrown Darren under the bus, but totally sucked it up and took one for the team.

I know he expected it. I understand he comes away obviously the bigger, more than reasonable man, and hopefully, he can do his JOB without the higher-ups and PR harassing him so much.

I'm just so FREAKING tired of good people put in such terrible situations, then being trashed by the people who put them there. :maddening:

What is this "collective's" projected outcome of this event? Return to status quo, in Ferguson? Continue to deny that there was ever a justice problem? Even if OW is relieved of the pressure of being the catalyst in this sad story, should the town just revert to the way it was? Serious question: what do you as a group feel the outcome of this should be? JMO

What exactly is the justice problem in Ferguson? Have we actually heard any true complaints? I know I have heard about getting ticketed for not having a valid license, not having insurance, etc. But those are valid reasons to get a ticket. So what exactly is the issue? And please, no one say that there isn't enough diversity in the police department. Especially after seeing how they treat any AA police officers that are already in the police department.
