Imposter cops, the missing woman as police informant -- sorry, just don't see it.

Agreed! Thank you! Frustrating this seems to be constantly brought up without any indication. Not very likely imo.

In several cases I have followed, LE has the phone pings and we the public find out much later.
I assume the phone pings make no sense like a needle in a haystack. On the other hand, I also suspect that those phone pings give them a good idea of some sort and they are watching someone.
Also they don't divulge too much to the family because I know I would go after the person of interest and beat answers out of them. Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you.

Does a phone battery last that long without a charge if it's just laying somewhere not being used?

it could last days depending on what mode it is in.

and i dont think we know that the battery died, we just know it went off the network. someone could have turned it off/removed sim card, it may have gone out of signal range.

Absolutely. I have the same phone. An iPhone 6 plus. Without activity the battery could last quite long. With a lot activity it still can last throughout of the day.

I thought this myself, an awful long time, most 20yr olds will have been using their phone most of day so i doubt it would be on full charge either unless it was charging while she worked

there are so many towers in that area they might have a very precise idea of its location during the period it was on, that is the biggest thing that makes me feel they know a lot more in this case than a case with someone who went missing in a remote location and their phone signal was lost right around the time they went missing.

Coincidentally, my phone normally gives me a 10% battery warning around 9 or 9:30pm every night from my normal usage. I have the same phone as Toni and normally am up at 6:30 every day.

I'm not an expert by any means but from other cases I have followed I gather that the phone will ping off an available tower, not necessarily the closest one. With so many towers in the area it could prove to show pings all over the place. So lets say she's on 26th but the tower shows a ping a mile away in a different area. Making it really hard to pin point an exact location. If she continued driving the pings could make some sort of sense. But if the phone stayed in a general area of lets say a mile of the QT the pings could be at different towers even though the phone didn't move. It's a complicated science. Anyway that is what I have gathered from a few different cases.

I think that timeframe seems rather reasonable if the phone is not being used. I'd be surprised if it didn't last much longer if she had a full charge. So if she had half a charge even, lasting a day if it wasn't being used is very realistic.

If she was using the phone, there is no way to know if she was charging it, and at that point all bets are off in this regard.

But I think the phone (iphone 6 plus) could easily last about 2 days on a full charge if not being used.

Also, keep in mind that we don't know that the charge was the issue, it could have simply been turned off as that 9:30pm time is when it disconnected from the network.

Correct, there is load balancing that goes on. In fact load balancing is actually the one of the most important factors used, not distance. Typically what happens is that it has a pool of towers in range and chooses based on load balancing evaluation. Depending on the range of the towers involved you could have a range of maybe 40 miles or more for a given tower -- maybe 20 miles in each direction. I'm estimating on the distance, could be more, but I'm quite positive it's at least around 20 miles. So it might be helpful in determining if that phone is in a given range, but that's a pretty big range! But knowing if it's pinging 100 miles away, would be a great lead in terms of knowing if she/phone is out of town etc.

I really hate it when these cases start to stall out after a week or two.......no new updates, no new information, nothing about search warrants or suspects...............it just flattens out.

I wish all of these cases could be like the young lady , Laura Lynne Stacy, that just disappeared in California on Sunday , LE found her car abandoned and her phone discarded, but she was nowhere around. They just found her today walking along the freeway, alive and well. 3 days start to finish.................perfect !

there is also signal strength, which can be used to narrow down fairly precise locations when there are multiple pings.

I agree. Shadiness is part of the problem I think. It gets called rumor mongering to acknowledge even a plausible probability.

But I do believe LE has a good idea of what's up and so they aren't truly looking for help from this site or the public. There is likely far more that can go wrong by allowing more information out in the public. They didn't even give a full description of what she was wearing, so doesn't seem like they want people to be sleuthing this one. imo

Almost caught up on thread, on pg 50 of thread #2 and first post here. Have been following since day one and wanted to contribute some of my thoughts as a local of KC.

1- I find it highly unlikely that she walked away from the club with little to no cash that evening seeing as it was the farthest the KC Chiefs have made it in the playoffs in years and it was a home game. Chrome Club is right next to the stadium and always runs promos for games, my money would be on that place being packed with drunk football fans both before and after the game.

2- The escort scene is very prominent in KC, a friend of mine who worked at a up scale hotel downtown says that it was easy to pick out the escorts showing up to the hotel and it was a very common occurrence.

3- My friend had his car stolen from 39th and Main in KCMO, cops never found it. Cars can disappear in KC very easily, I can not provide sources of any (not in my field of expertise) but am fairly certain that there are a fair amount of chop shops in the area.

4- When going through Toni's tumblr a few days ago (i have not revisited to find the link to the post maybe one of you saw it) there was a post where she talked about how "she used to be in school, used to have a good job at a nice hotel, but she also used to be miserable" (not a direct quote if someone can find it that would be awesome) What I'm getting at is she was re enrolled in school, her parents just moved to KC to be with her and maybe that is the exact opposite of what she wanted. Perhaps she was glad to be away from her parents, not in school, not working a normal job all of which are things that interfere with the lifestyle of one who likes to travel the world and go to music festivals.

5- I find in highly unlikely that she was involved in a car wreck (at least locally) and they have not found her vehicle yet, as others have said it is a high traffic area and the roads were not bad- we hardly got an ice storm if you can even call it that.

Obviously all speculation and JMO but that is where my head is at on this case, I sincerely hope she turns up unharmed.

I don't even think the quote is referring to the intersection of the traffic stop, I think it's referring to the intersection of the QuikTrip.

Pulled over (verb)
By (preposition) officer (object of preposition)
near (preposition) QuikTrip (object of preposition)
at (preposition) 9 Highway and 20th avenue (object of preposition)
for (preposition) illegal lane change (object of preposition)

I think the prepositional phrase beginning with "near" refers to where the traffic stop occurred, and the prepositional phrase beginning with "at" refers to the approximate location of the QuikTrip. I don't think we can honestly say it's been reported where the traffic stop occurred. I am SO detail oriented though I may be making things harder than they should be.

I mentioned this earlier as well. I think they were using the QuikTrip intersection as the "near there" address...and it got distorted as it traveled ear to ear...and misreported. But can't be sure of course.

Where did you hear that her parents moved to KC to be with her? I thought they were still back in Wichita. Yes, that would be a very bad thing, I think, because she wrote lots about how badly she wanted to move away but her parents did everything they could think of to keep her there.

I've also been thinking about the school thing. It seems quite the coincidence that she was set to start school in two days, doesn't it? Yet people who knew her said she was excited to be going back to school. And in her blog she seemed to see not going to school as a bad thing.

She did say she never wanted to work a normal job again.

As for it being busy at the club because of a game, are you sure that the predicted ice storms didn't keep people away?

Agreed on much of this.

The most likely explanations, in my opinion, are:

1. Met with foul play due to interactions related to drugs/sex exchange. In this case, it's really important to determine who she's been texting or plotting to meet, her direction of travel, and where her last phone ping was etc.

2. Opted to go missing of her own freewill and is in hiding. In this case, it will eventually come out on its own likely. But we have to treat it like #1 until we find out for sure.

I leave a little room for some of the other possibilities--that she's a CI, for instance, or that she wrecked--since it's plausible given her statements on Tumblr about getting out of an arrest and since it was icy. But if I'm betting, it's either 1 or 2.

Couldn't agree more. This is going to stall fast, and the speculation will just cycle and cycle through the same factoids, unless some new information is released. Hoping LEO will decide to put more out there. But also trying to think of any other information we might be able to find that could be helpful. Areas she has stayed via AirBnB, festivals she covered that were at a campground, etc. Sometimes the conversation here, however outlandish at times, does help us discover new angles to pursue.
