Just a post to say I am still here every day, reading every post. I just don't have anything to add for now. I hate to see this thread so inactive, but there just seems to be nothing left to discuss until some of the rumblings and rumors posted elsewhere may pan out and eventually find their way to MSM, or until LE gives us something in the way of suspects or arrests. I do hope that there truly is movement and progress being made in this case, and pray that justice soon will come for Jessica. JMO

I know exactly what you mean Steve. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels, watching questions asked a dozen times and answered already weeks ago, contrarians, posts being dissected by the word. Nothing new, no arrests, even the rumor mills are drying up. Hopefully if nothing new arises, someone somewhere stumbles on something we or LE or the rumor mills have missed. It's really such a sad story, hopefully they find peace and justice for that child soon.

Yep, I heard it ... and have no idea what to think. I do think some people play games in that town, which is really problematic in terms of discerning what and what not might be true. Cryptic is as cryptic does, I guess. (Which sounded good, but is also pretty darn cryptic.)

I gave up posting on this case weeks ago because I am so baffled. I just don't know what to make of it. I feel strongly that the message was about her NOT TALKING ANYMORE and it was sent loud and clear. And I think some of the locals got the message. But I have no ideas who sent it.

I still check in almost everyday. It's like treading water. Still here but going nowhere! At this point, I still think anything is possible. I have been pretty much convinced that a particular scenario unfolded, but then I can see how certain things would fit if Jessica was an informant. The crime seems very personal but then yesterday I was out driving in a rural area probably very much like the area where Jessica's car was found. I was out riding around to locate a rural property that's for sale when I was passed by a couple of guys in a pick up. It struck me that I could have very easily been followed, somehow forced to stop in the middle of this very quite area and anything could have happened if those guys had been up to no good and wanted to mess with me. Then I remembered when I was younger (early 20's) and that I had two different experiences with creepy guys following me around town in their trucks and making me feel edgy. One even followed me all the way home to my drive way once. I didn't know either guy personally but this is a small town and bad things happen in small towns when there's nothing much else to do but ride around looking for a party, or some other leisure activity. I started thinking... what if I HAD known either of these creepers personally? Would I drive straight home and notify family that I had been followed, as I did (a side funny here is that my 80 yo grandmother got wind of it, knew who I was talking about due to my description of this guy - how in the world, I do not know - and proceeded to call the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and the guy's grandmother. Gotta love small town grannies!), or would I have stopped the car and asked the guy what the h*ll he was doing following me? Hmmm... I was pretty brave when I was that age and had quite a temper (had, I have mellowed). All that to say, who knows? I think anything could have happened, thus I have nothing to add to the discussion much.

Following the Heather Elvis case (which is local for me) has a gag order in place — is comparable to the silence in this investigation.

I think it's possible that a few people are privy to the truth and won't come forward because they are related. JMO.
I truly hate to see so much time pass without any progress.

I can so relate to this post, except I was in a city. I was pretty brave (and mouthy) to guys who would pull up to the curb beside us as we were walking to or from restaurant/concert/parking lot, etc. I have seen same guys you describe in pick up trucks in BMW's - same thing, different city. Once in my 20s, I brought a couple of guy friends down to the small town on the panhandle where my mother and stepfather were living a peaceful life. She knew I stayed on the beach over night with them and ran them out of town the next day with a shotgun. Her name was Ann (Miss Ann) but she became Shotgun Annie after that. She brooked no nonsense, I thought it was my right to stay out on the beach and drink, etc. I wasn't 18 any longer, haha. No wonder she worried about me constantly. I feel like there for the Grace of God and Annie, go I.

Both bridges that cross the MS River at Memphis have been under Federal scrutiny esp since 9/11. The I-40 bridge is obviously of highest importance but the interstate 55 one has the prime railroad bridge adjoining it.

Even if this case is never solved, I think the perp(s) bought themselves a one-way ticket to hell. If any of the perp(s) have any amount of empathy/compassion, the guilt will eventually eat away at them...regardless if their "secret" is kept. There's so many dangerous and new elements in this case and it's so closed that it's difficult to discuss. Although I hope this means serious work is going on.

Question for WS experts on gang activity: How does gang hierarchy work in relation to drug trafficking/prostitution/illegal activity, does anyone know? Given the horrific nature of the crime, if drug dealing were involved then I think it involves more "profitable" drug, ie cocaine vs marijuana, but not sure on profitability of drugs. I.e. perpetrator was a drug dealer + gang member + wanted to move up on the food chain, how would they do it and what risk would they take? Like if a top level gang member perceived JC as a defector and lower level member wants to impress and move up.

Hypo- If one of the perp(s) had delusional expectations of JC, like thought she would be their prostitute/escort, girlfriend and of course, they gave her drugs, it's like JC would be their "perfect" girl AND she would help him social climb within the gang. But then Jessica had to mess it all up and went away, started to stray back to her parents and bettering herself, she wasn't malleable anymore, she betrayed him and messed up his position. So what if the perp is a gang member, but murdering Jessica wasn't gang sanctioned necessarily just again some psychotic perp's delusion that he and JC were going to make it together in gang life. Or JC was dealing but no longer associated with gang members, so she was infringing on other groups illegal business/turf. I don't know the hierarchy/complexity/social structure of gangs or how a gang member moves up the chain, or JC's relations so could be totally wrong and not portraying their illegal businesses properly. All hypothetically, of course.

I'll simplify the hierarchy somewhat. Gangs work much like any other organization, you have a leader, officers (a council of sorts) and the foot soldiers (or grunts for lack of a better term). Advancement in the ranks happens in one of three ways or a combination of the three. Unusually smart, perceptive or successful members usually find themselves in the upper echelon. Some people immediately assume criminals, especially the violent kind aren't that bright. I can attest to exactly the opposite. The best criminals are usually very intelligent or cunning. In any criminal organization you're going to find some of the brightest minds at, or very close to the top. Ruthlessness, many gang leaders ascend to the top just because they're incredibly violent, feared by even their closest confidants, these are simply the people you do not mess with, if you do, you might as well pen your own obituary. I remember reading some years ago about a young man named Paco, he was the leader of the HVK in Charlotte. Paco was a wild man and lead the gang almost exclusively through their fear of him. Finally just being a successful criminal, you make the gang a lot of money, or you help them tie up new territory and you're going to go places.

Now I'm not saying there aren't other ways to climb the ladder, those are just the most common. For many of the young men (and women) this is their career. They won't ever leave the town they live in, and this is the opportunity they have. Gangs work much like any other organization, the only differences are the properties they value in their members. I haven't documented sources for these statements, they're readily available. I'm giving what real world experience I have assuming that gangs haven't changed that much in 20 years, that and tons of summarized reading.

One final comment. I don't think Jessica's departure from "gang life" would have caused a member any loss of status. Women that aren't part of the gang proper really don't have that much value to them and are interchangeable. The only way I see Jessica bringing the wrath of the gang itself on her would be either talking to the cops about gang activity, or directly causing problems for a member. Again this is my opinion only ymmv.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A 39-year-old female driver apparently set herself on fire, crashed her car on a bridge and jumped 40 feet to a park below, Eugene police said Thursday.

The Eugene woman was being treated for critical injuries at a Portland-area hospital.

Truck drivers tried to put out the flames with fire extinguishers and another person tried to grab the woman, but she was still able to jump, police said.

That is a tragic story, and it does happen, but given the known criminal records of many of her circle of friends and acquaintances, and the known criminal records of several more in her immediate area that she may have had any sort of dealings with, and given the number of LE agencies investigating Jessica's death, I think the chances of this being what happened to her are about zero. JMO.
