I hope the Sheriff has a solid timeline to work from. Media reports are so inconsistent. How could the adults allow this child to wander around without shoes in this weather? Too many questions.

According to another report:
“The last person to see Raul was an elderly neighbor that he often visits for cookies and candy. That was around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The woman said the child headed back toward his home.“ (BBM)
http://www.laurinburgexchange.com/top-stories/13737/search-continues-for-missing-scotland-boy

Yet it has also been reported:
“‘She [the neighbor] said he went over to her porch and knocked on her door. We said we walked down the steps to told him to go home and he walked down the steps but she didn’t look and see which way he went,” said Johnson.’” (BBM)

So which is it? Did the “Candy Lady” see Raul heading home, or did she not?

RSBM

It has also been reported that she sent him back home.

I'm thinking she might have told him, go back home, and he turned around and left. She assumed he had gone back home but after further questioning she had to admit that she didn't actually see which direction he headed after he left her property. jmo

My opinion right now is, based on the reports that Raul had been seen roaming before and the unsafe environment inside his home, that he did not like being at home, he wasn't happy there. Hence he developed a habit of roaming and being outside as often as he could. This time he might have gone further than on previous occasions and it led to disaster. Either he died from exposure or from a mishap such as falling into a pond. jmo

There really are a lot of discrepancies or at least confusion regarding the facts. One report said the grandfather looked for one hour prior to calling 911, another said 10 minutes. One report said he was heading home when last seen, others said on Village drive but headed towards Crestline Rd (not headed home). Early reports said tiger striped shirt with tigers and white pajama pants with rockets on them, another report said matching blue (or blue and white?) Pajamas. Some reports described him as Indian others said Hispanic. I also wonder if there is not a solid timeline and solid details or if it's a matter of bad reporting/info coming from so many different sources.

Not sure of the age of the Grandfather, but my parents grew up on a farm. (mom 1928/Dad 1930) and I was #7 of 7 children. We were always told to go play outside and get out of the house. There was a school next door that allowed us to play on the toys there, but we were always within ear shot of a holler from them. So maybe that is the same thing happening here, Grandpa being from the time that children went outside and played and maybe that is something the children were used to. The view of the area looks rural, even though the houses (modulars/trailers) are there, I bet that most have kids in them that they get together and play with. Probably thought it was a safe enough area and with older neighbors, probably grew up with the saying we all watch out for everyones kids. I am not making excuses for the family, and I hope they are no way involved, but just wanted to put out that this may have been a normal way for them.

The last part of the interview with the Sheriff by Fox 35 News that LaborDayRN just posted really stuck out to me.....

These children..... So not just Raul, but several of their children often wandered?

Kind of makes me wonder why they didn't seem to want to be home. And also why precautions like higher deadbolts on the doors or being more vigilant in supervising them were not taken. I realize kids get curious/can be out of sight in no time but this solidifies my thoughts earlier that this type of thing is a regular occurrence at that house. Why?
I'm way behind, but if they were sexually abused in that house, it makes a lot of sense why they wouldn't want to be there. :(

You make a really good point, 4Sam. I would say that based on what the Sheriff said in his interview/briefing yesterday, that it was not uncommon for the kids in that house (and perhaps other neighbor kids/other households in that area?) to let their kids freely roam, assuming it was safe and that all adults in the area would help "keep an eye on the kids"

The issue I have is that regardless of if people agree or disagree with that parenting style, Raul was dressed in pajamas and no shoes and his grandfather wasn't aware he had even left the home. I would think that if it was common for all the kids to just play outside together wherever/freely come and go from the house, the Grandfather would have had him dressed appropriately for playing outside and he would have been wearing shoes- ready for another day of outdoor exploring/roaming.

“I’m not going to leave with any doubt in my mind or any other officers mind. It’s not that the divers didn’t do a good job but he’s a small child, weighs about thirty five pounds, and if I don’t drain, if we don’t drain it, then that doubt will always be there,” said Kersey.[/FONT]

Last night I saw a video where the Sheriff, very emotional, talked about picking Raul up and holding him back in September. He was so emotional he had to stop talking for a moment. I'm looking for that video.

A 4 yr. old wandering alone. No suitable apparel. Water nearby. Recipe for disaster!!!! If he is not in that pond then it opens up other possibilities in my mind. Poor little man. Breaks my heart to think of what his short life has been like.

I'm so surprised this thread isn't more active, Recently two girls were abducted by a sick man who was living with them in Texas, to which their thread turned into several before the girls were found. Blaze Bernstein also had several threads going before he was found. I wonder why a small handful of us are posting on this thread with this little darling missing. I see members are on reading, but not many are posting. I hope more folks start to chime in until he is found. It's really bothering me that he is missing and there aren't many clues left behind to help find him.

It breaks my heart thinking about this little angel walking in the cold barefoot. Hearing he would go get candy etc from the neighbor every day makes me feel like he was neglected at home. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't believe we are getting the full story about the morning he went missing.

The kind of charges his mom and her boyfriend were arrested for makes me fear the worst. (I understand her charges were dropped.)
I'm not saying that has anything to do with his disappearance, but it does leave me with an unsettling feeling in my heart. For now, I just want to stay optimistic, and continuing praying for his safe return.

I live in the next county over (Richmond). Our local law enforcement assisted with the K9 search in Scotland County. I am also acquainted with of the members of the search team. He indicated to me that they think the child may have fallen into a local pond - divers were searching bodies of water yesterday.

I'm not buying that - hinky meter went off immediately.

The Sheriff has mentioned several times that 'IF' a family member moved him... I was trying to find one interview with the Sheriff. Media was asking questions. He said the sister was home sick from school that day. That numerous people lived in the home that were not family. That the child is one of 8 kids!! He didn't give ages of the kids. There as another media video and the Mom was standing outside the door to the home. The lady reporter was saying kids were playing outside. I don't know what time of day she was there, it was light outside.

I don't know even remember what I was going to say!

I think it was when the Sheriff was talking to the volunteers, inside the firehouse. If you haven't watched that video, please do. He was saying what the next few days would be like. Almost as if he knew the child won't be in the pond, but it needs to be ruled out. I know it only takes ONE time for a child to end up in the pond, yet I keep thinking he was used to wandering the neighborhood, and as far as we know, he hadn't gone to the pond. The Sheriff even mentioned that family would be requestioned if Raul isn't found in the pond. That people need to report anything they have heard, or know.

I really get the feeling that LE is suspecting something foul has occurred.
