I just don't understand this....at all. Why would they let him be there? Yes, if they came across something---like identifying jewelry, etc he could be nearby (Delta) in order to say yes or no, but to be at the actual site makes absolutely no sense to me. We know there was a control issue going on between the Coxes and Powells, but what psychological advantage would be gained by LE if this was being played out?

Someone chime in please, because I'm' just not getting this....... ????????

This poor man has had his life turned upside down. It's said one is not supposed to bury their child; imagine having to wait years to even know what happened to your child. If he needs to be there then that is what he needs to do. I wouldn't think they would have him standing at the excavation site but rather at a distance away. If her remains were found, LE are trained to deliver this info to family/parents.

I have so much respect for both Mr and Mrs Cox; their patience and faith is a lesson for us all.

My first impulse is that this is a subtle dig at JP by LE. "We like and trust Mr. Cox, but not JP so we allow Mr. Cox at the site, but not JP." But I think there has to be more reason there. I may not know what that reason is, but I do know that LE does carefully consider each step and each thing they do there has to be some reason for it.

Possible, but what I meant by "get off" is that visiting the site would give him a heightened sense of fulfillment of his fantasies about her. A rush, so to speak. Reading his lyrics about her and reading up on all the stories about keeping her underwear, sexual advances, photos, videos, etc. is how I arrived at that.

When it comes to icky, I think sp puts the bar so high that no one will ever surpass him.

Recently, some human remains were found at some sort of public use area in Illinois. People were talking it about it briefly around here, wondering if it was Stacy Peterson -- what a coincidence if both Susan and Stacy's remains were found in a couple of weeks....

There was a make-shift cross at THAT site in IL.

Police have covered a 20 foot by 20 foot area of land near the John Hay Public Area where a fisherman found the bones on Saturday.

It was obvious to the fisherman that there was a makeshift cross near the remains. The items were weathered and very aged and were found near the shoreline and in the water.

I would not think it good to allow Mr. Cox to be there waiting for the first bone or piece of cloth. Just my opinion....

Same here. I made the mistake of taking that cops word for a fact that they found remains. I think he was plain old lying.

JP and SP certainly (from all appearances) loathe the Cox family. LE is well aware of this. Could LE be putting pressure on the two P's by allowing Mr. Cox to get near the site?

Investigators plan to sift dirt for clues at site of Susan Cox Powell investigation

DELTA — The father of missing West Valley mother Susan Cox Powell was expected to arrive about noon to the area where investigators believe there are human remains.

Chuck Cox flew into Salt Lake City Thursday from his home in Puyallup, Wash., after police announced that remains or the indication of human remains were found. Police planned to escort him to the site.

The investigation into an apparent shallow grave continued Friday in a remote area near Topaz Mountain outside of Delta

Hes definetly an older man.. I dont think they will let him too close to the actual scene.. But, I know if it was me.. I would probably collapse under those circumstances.

IMO it was to let JP and his father know they have something substantial even though the body was removed. They are not going to stop on this trail with just human remains being left from a body removal. They want to amp up his paranoia (bringing Mr. Cox out there really would send alarm bells going off in his head), interrogate the crap out of him and the father, blow up their inconsistencies and break one of them. MOO.

If this is correct, they will be seen being taken into custody within 24 hours.

I guess the biggest question is "What is the definition of remains?" Reminds me of Clinton and Lewinsky. I watched the re-airing of NG last again because I was here and not really paying attention, but she claimed...or stated skeletal remains were found. I take everything that comes from her show with a huge grain of salt, but sometimes wonder if she does get inside info that LE doesn't want known. It truly is just a waiting game at this point. :banghead:

I am surprised that Susan's dad would be allowed up near the excavation site as well...at least until they have determined that this is in fact Susan, and not some other person...but maybe they do have an item or two that suggests Susan, despite their denial. A few days ago, they indicated they had found a few items of interest (I think that was the term) although now they seem to be denying that.

I'm sure Mr. Cox is in the command center's trailer well away from the crime scene area. They have Mr. Cox on hand like they would the ME to identify any clothing, Jewelry or anything else that might be uncovered. Not only that, can you imagine how SP and JP sits with Mr. Cox there and they are not?

I am sure they considered that HRD alerts from K-9's are not always directly over the top of human remains. I have read here that they are alerting over a depression in the soil. What I am wondering is if it is possible that the scent has traveled underground (natural passageways, drainage, etc...) as fluid seeps over time like water seeks it's own level. IOW, the actual remains may be further uphill. I'm sure the handlers have thought of this though. Eight separate teams or dogs? Is that right? Please forgive me as I play catch up here. I have followed this case for updates but have not followed it closely as most of you have.

I keep reading about these confirmed alerts by so many K-9's and my mind wants to look for the simplest answer, I guess.

That's always a risk. Of course just about anything can be considered a risk when it comes to the defense. But the fact that they still allowed him to be there is what makes me think they do have a reason for him to be there, one that is important enough to override the risk.

He said the department wanted to allow Cox the opportunity to take a look at the dig area and get a better understanding of what they're dealing with.
