Guardian on scurrilous "social networking":

7.30pm: Nina Reim has got in touch to alert us to a Facebook page that was set up, ostensibly to tell people about an event that was being held to remember the victims Friday's attacks in Oslo and at Utøya. The page attracted 4000 people who said they would be attending the event.

However, last night a picture of Anders Behring Breivik - the man accused of being responsible for the attacks - appeared on the site, with the words "Honour to Anders Behring Breivik: hero and role model". As it turned out the page had in fact been created by a supporter of Breivik. This evening Facebook removed the page.

There has been anger on Twitter that it took Facebook until tonight to act. HallvardTsays:

Why hasnt @facebook removed this hatefull evnet? They tricked people to attend by stating it as a suport for the victims

Latest is that the shooter used something called "dum dum" ammunition. This kind of ammunition is illegal to use in war, but allowed in hunting.

What it does is that it kind of explodes from the inside after it has hit something.
One doctor says it was like 1000 needles spread out once the bullet hit...

ABB has really thought about everything... just underlining his evilness more.

I wrote about this further up. But it is confirmed that he bought very expensive camera and took professional looking pictures for his manifest, which also can be seen as a press package.

In his manifest he has written about which ways to best go about taking these kind of pictures under these circumstances. If going to a photographer, do it abroad, under false name, pay cash.

Still, he decided that the pictures he was going to take would be too suspicions, so he decided to do it himself.

He did have another Facebook account previously, but it's deactivated. The Facebook account these pictures where found on, was made only for the purpose of the massacre.

Also, in Norway we don't do mugshots.

Thank You So Much For Your Reply. I Had A Friend From Denmark Come Stay With Me A Few Times For As Long As Visa Would Allow. He Told Me The Local News Back Home Usually Consisted Of Perhaps An Auto Accident ~ If Even That. I Realize Norway Is Approx 480 Km In Distance, But The Cultures Are Similar, No ? In General Terms Of Course, Low Crime Rate, Safe, In Comparison To The US, Or Places Within The US, At Any Rate. As I Know My Mate Was Unprepared For The Harshness Of The States And Taken Advantage Of By Quite A Few People During His Stay When He Ventured Out By Himself. I Got The Impression He Could Easily Trust Many Strangers In His Home Setting, Where This Is For Sure Not The Case In Some Places Here In The States. Sorry To Be So Long - Am Just Wondering If Norway Is Indeed Similar In That Regard To Denmark. And Wanted To Thank You So Much For Your Post.

Also, in Norway we don't do mugshots.

Hey Just One More Question. When You Say You Guys Dont Do Mugshots Do You Mean That No Photos Are Taken At All. Or Suspect Pictures Are At Some Point Taken And Filed Someplace By Law Enforcement, But They Are Just Not Called MugShots. Or Photos Are Taken But Not Released To The Public ?

Policeman, hired to work as guard on camp, killed in massacre.

He was paid on private initiative.

I have to quote myself to give some additional information about this.

The police man shoot and killed was the step brother of our Crown Princess, Mette-Marit.

Ok I Read Someplace Earlier Today That People In Oslo Were Smelling Sulfur And Since I Dont Have The Article In Front Of Me {Nor Can I Find Whatever I Was Reading} This Is From Memory. It Was A Problem That The Smell Of Sulfur Somehow Meant That The Suspects Story Was Not Adding Up. The Following Is Directly From His Manifesto I May Have To Edit After I Paste It In Here Cause I Do Not Wanna Paste Full Instructions If You Know What I Mean. Ok The Following Is Just A Very Small Portion Of The List Of Items Purchased And Their Purpose And How They Were Acquired.
I would now initiate the most critical of all phases; the “chemical acquirement phase”
I will include a list of some of the items/components acquired during this period:
Item: Sulphur powder (pure yellow)
Purchase: Dec 2010
Intended use: component to primary charge
Quantity: 0,5 kg
Supplier: Ebay, English company
Alt. supplier: can also be purchased from aquarium shops for aquarium filters
Shipping declaration: specified as “yellow artist paint dust”
Cost: 20 Euro
Bought with VISA - Paypal
Delivery: delivery without problems, customs never opened
Cover story: sulphur used for aquarium filter refill (oh, we love our little imaginary fishies,
don’t we)
Cover story used: no
Risk: I was concerned about customs seizing the package and/or informing authorities but
it appears this didn’t happen.
Item: Sodium Nitrite
Purchase: Dec 2010
Intended use: primary charge
Quantity: 0,3 kg
Supplier: Keten, Polish chemical store
Alt. supplier: can be purchased from other chemical stores and some apothecaries
Shipping declaration: specified as “sodium nitrate”
Cost: 10 Euro
Bought with VISA - Paypal
Delivery: delivery without problems, customs did not appear to have opened
Cover story: Sodium Nitrite used as a preservative for curing/processing meat. A
teaspoon of SN is mixed with salt and other herbs and rubbed into 25 kg meat. This
process preserves the colour before freezing and prevents the development of bacteria. It
is common for Norwegian moose hunters to use this product as they often acquire and
process up to several hundred kilograms of meat which needs to be processed with
preservatives before freezing.
Cover story used: no
Risk: I was concerned about customs seizing the package and/or informing authorities but
it appears this didn’t happen.

Ok.. The Sulfur Discrepancies Which Is On This Very Page I See Now. Anyways, Sulfur Is As At The Top Of His Purchases List. The List , Which I Copied Straight From His Manifesto I Only Pasted In The Top Few Purchases He Listed. There Is A Huge List On His Manifesto. Of Course I Didnt Include That Whole Portion Which He Had Entitled the “chemical acquirement phase”. { Which Is Lengthy And Very Detailed }. I Am Still Surprised That His Manifesto In Full 1500 + .pdf Pages Is Available Online.

The law enforcement files the photo they takes somewhere in the files for the person. Mostly the media here uses private photos when they need to use a picture of a person who are suspected to have broken the laws... It is very unusual name and pictures of the person is in media in generally so early... We lives by the law that until the person is convicted with any crime they are not-guilty and the media cant use the pictures of the suspected persons the LE takes.

A very sick thing has come out of all of this. There are many people that are actually sympathizing with this guy and blaming Islam and Norway for what he did. If you don't believe me go to Free Republic.com, which is a conservative news aggregator site, and read any of the post related to this.

I read somewhere (during the Dominique Strauss-Kahn rape allegation story) that some other countries do not allow photos or video to be published of those arrested due to 'innocent until proven guilty'- can anyone share with me what those laws are?

Are news medias restrained from reporting arrests, or just from publishing images?

I dont think it is anything in the constitution laws here in Norway about showing photos or videos in the media of arrested people, but I am not sure...

However we have a press and media ethics "laws" that our medias is meant to follow or they will be prosecuted in their own press organisation. And one of the "rules" there is innocent until proven guilty and the media is asked to be careful in such situations. It is not allowed to take pictures of the suspected persons in the court room either, so most of the medias have illustrators who makes drawings of people in the court. And that is allowed.

News medias is restrained from publishing images only, but some medias go a long way to find private photos and information. Norway is a small country and sometimes the information the medias coming up with is enough for a lot of people to identify the suspected person in high profiled cases.

We have never experienced anything similar to this so I expect that a lot of things will change in the future.

Everyone should read this, portrait of a killer, written by journalist in out state channel, Peter Svaar, who was Anders Behring Breivik's class mate.

"I remember the shy little boy. Occupied by U.S. hip-hop clothes from the clothes shop Jean-TV in Arcade in downtown Oslo. Commitment to training and diet. If I should describe him, I would say that I remember him as kind. Loyal to those who were his friends. Intelligent. Will Strong.

The same man who has killed perhaps 100 people, most of them children, in a fake police uniform. Large cooler is not the culprit.

I remember a warm early summer evening on Hvasser in 1994: the end of the class 9A at Rice School. We were on an island in the archipelago of Tjøme. The school had made with great care. Someone had posted holiday site for disposal. We grilled hot dogs and pinnebrød on fire. We were lucky that the 9 years of schooling was over. Felt like a tight group. Had experienced so much together; surreptitiously drinking on leisure club. Worn out teacher substitutes. Been to a party at the home of one another. Later in the night lost someone to Kline in the bushes. Anders Behring Breivik was one of us that night.

Anders Behring Breivik is, as far as I can consider that, unfortunately, not insane. It would have made everything so much easier if he was. The image of the mad knight temple, drugged on steroids, is likely to sell newspapers. It had created a comfortable distance between him and us if it were so.

But nothing I know about him from the years I knew him, or what I have since read in his so-called manifesto, suggests that he is crazy or disturbed.

On the contrary. I got the impression of him as cold and intelligent designing. Everything that happened after the bomb went off at 15.26 on Friday afternoon has been following his plan. My biggest fear now is that he is still playing us - the media, public opinion - like a piano.

What keeps me awake at night now that he's not a monster. He is a regular, Norwegian boy. He has dug itself into a completely insane policy analysis, and unfortunately been resourceful enough to follow his reasoning into practical action.

He would be taken. He has admitted everything. He have requested - and received - a defender who is Labor member. He writes that the propaganda phase starts at the arrest. For the open court he will propagandize for his twisted point of view, with the world press at the property counter. If possible, in uniform! One can say much about such a strategy, but it's not a crazy man's work. It is a calculating, ressursterk and intelligent man's work. Anders has a goal, and he is still only halfway there. The rest of us have read the document his understanding of how he thinks, to fight him.

"For us as grilled sausages on that summer night in 1994 is today two are doctors. One, a marine biologist. One is the pr-adviser. I was a journalist at NRK. And Anders Behring Breivik was mass murderer. "
Peter Svaar

Back to Class 9A. Anders was the boy who ended up in trouble with the police, and lost contact with his father because he was caught for tagging in the city center. He was the boy who decided to start exercising, and eventually trained every morning before school at Steve's Gym in downtown Oslo. I remember he told me that he went there every morning at 6 It made an impression. Anders was one that could decide on a goal, and implement it - even if it took weeks, months, years. Muscular, he was. He reached his goal through regular and long effort. He was tenacious.

Perhaps the kind of toughness that makes a man to argue with the events in 2083 for killing 100 innocent today. The kind of toughness that makes a man to start an agricultural company two years in advance, to be able to buy tons of fertilizer unnoticed. But Norway fostered such a man. He is one of us.

A colleague in VG called Saturday. He had got hold of the yearbook from Rice that year we went out, 1994. I did not have much to say. But then the so-called manifesto discovered. 1500 pages, mostly taken from other sources, not to mention Timothy McVeigh. But in between all the stuff from the theft, including pages that describe me and us in class 9A. Many full name. It referred to the Norwegian-Pakistani I felt that maybe it was Anders closest friend at the time. He should have opened Anders' eyes that Muslims did not have NOK respect for the Norwegians.

Peter Svaar was just Grubbegaten after the explosion, and reported live for NRK. The shock was great when he later found out who was responsible.

Chance would have it that I was on the scene in Grubbegaten just minutes after it slammed on Friday. No one knew who was responsible. Only after I got home at night after long hours of direct reporting, I heard that Tommy Behring Breivik was arrested on Utøya. It was a shock. I thought the first did not.
Anders!? We grew up together. How could you choose a direction for your life? You have never lacked anything!

I lived in London when it slammed 7 June 2005. The perpetrators had then at least more reason to be angry with the society around him, and minority youth with poor prospects for careers in class society the United Kingdom. Anders is the opposite. He has had every opportunity. As far as I know never lacked anything. Not been victim of some injustice from society. Where does this hatred come from?

"Anders!? We grew up together. How could you choose a direction for your life? You have never lacked anything! "
Peter Svaar

He has planned this down to the smallest detail. Surviving Facebook profile with all the pictures of himself as the press can use. Twitter Account with a screwed quote from John Stuart Mill. Both created on July 17 this year. A video. And thus a kind of manifesto - or what to call it. A long text made up of many sources. But it also contains a diary describing the metikuløse planning day by day.

Anders knew he would be arrested. I fear more than anything else that we are now dancing in his great plan. He knew he would be portrayed as a monster, so he writes in the manifesto as much detail about his life, and also about class 9A. He has not admitted guilt, but he admits to having carried out the attacks. Of course he is 21 years, but he does not fear his punishment. In his head he is a martyr. A hero. Misunderstood by his contemporaries, but with a place in history books.

I still do not understand how such a complete, planned evil is possible. Especially not from someone I've known, who have grown up in the same circuit and surroundings as myself. How to end a man of such ideologically misguided? Where do his willingness to plan for years? Using months to build a bomb. Research bomb parts on the Internet. Starting a business to buy fertilizer. Planning the mass killing. It is then carried out cold. I do not understand it, and do not know if one can understand.

It has gone well with many in the Class 9A: of us who grilled sausages the summer in 1994 is today two are doctors. A, a marine biologist. One is the per-adviser. I was a journalist at NRK. And Anders Behring Breivik was mass murderer.

I used Google translate for this. It's really good.

Hi Lorrie,

so sad what has happened. I take it you're Norwegian as well?
My emotions are so high... and they've been that way since the news broke.

What changes do you think we'll see?

Yes, it is sad... Yes, I am norwegian - and originally from Oslo too but lives further up north.

I am not really sure about what to answer you so early.. But I really hope our openess and democracy will not change, although we have maybe been a little too naive about such things happening here... We lives in a country where until a few years ago our PM could walk everywhere without security.

I will guess that our law enforcement have to reconcider our prison security because we are not used to have terrorists imprisoned. I will also think some sort of press and media ethics will have to be changed for the future. What do you think?

He plagarized the Unibomber. What a loser.

Norway suspect borrowed from Unabomber's manifesto

Parts of the manifesto written by the suspect in Norway's terrorist attack were taken almost word for word from the writings of "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski. The passages copied by Anders Behring Breivik appear in the first few pages of Kaczynski's manifesto. Breivik changed a Kaczynski screed on leftism and what he considered to be leftists' "feelings of inferiority" _ mainly by substituting the words "multiculturalism" or "cultural Marxism" for "leftism."

Ring around Utoya Island massacre(7-22-11)

--7-23-11 * 12 wounded in shooting at Kent, WA lowrider car show
--7-23-11 * Six killed when dad goes beserk at kid's birthday party at roller rink in Grand Prairie, TX
--7-24-11 * Seven wounded in Seattle, WA casino shooting
--7-24-11 * Two dead, seven wounded in shooting at backyard birthday party in Stockton, CA

Whenever you have one of these terrrible mass shooting events, there are almost always 'follow-on' events, blamed on copycats. *But the real reason is to 'catapult the (anti-gun)propaganda' as the previous president said.

You're kidding, right? I seriously doubt George W. Bush said mass murders were orchestrated to further a gun control agenda. He wasn't my favorite president, but I don't think he's insane.

To Norwegian or any other poster who reads the language:

From the account of the Rice School 9A graduation party. What does this sentence mean?

Later in the night lost someone to Kline in the bushes.

"Later in the night someone disapeared to makeout/kiss in the bushes"...

Nothing unormal for teenagers I believe...

Totally normal. But because we don't capitalize regular nouns in English, it read as if some monster named Kline was hiding in the bushes, waiting to nab kids.

Unfortunately, not unlike what actually happened two days ago.

Thanks.
