Mom, boyfriend accused in death of 3-year-old son held on $100k bail
Tuesday, the state prosecutor told the judge that the medical reports showed signs of abuse that included burns and scratches, even around the child’s eyes.

Court records show Oxford pleading guilty to child abuse and neglect charges in 2013.

State prosecutors are still gathering documents on the case but are expected to file charges by Wednesday morning.

God. What woman would think HE is a "catch"?
I want to see the mother's parental unit, to see what raised HER to be attracted to something like that.
I am sickened. She's 20, with a three and two year old, hitched up with that 40-year-old loser? What did he ADD to her life?
 
It is interesting to work with Social Workers, they are so polarized, either rabid for ripping kids away from folks, who may just be having a hard time, or bending over backwards to allow abusers to keep kids. It seems like there is no middle ground.

I would be interested to know why the Father is/was not taking care of the kids. It seems like we always blame a Mother who is living with a boyfriend, with her children, but I think Fathers have a responsibility too.

This is so common. And so sad.

I'm in recovery from drugs and alcohol myself, and so volunteer on a board that works with our local government. Most addicts are not bad people, and there are tons of functioning ones that you would never guess. Our local newscaster fell into opioids and heroin after surgery. She too was a parent and became "super mom" on them. Sorry so O/T. I tend to think people like this are just evil. Even the majority of addicts aren't going to kill and beat their children. It's too late for this pair and I hope they rot in prison.

Sorry for your loss. I don’t know how parents recover from this. My parents lost two - much older - and were never the same. Bless you.

TANF is Federal. I always tell people if they think it is such a good deal, sell everything and quit your job and go on TANF. I have lots to say about this but I won’t. What you said is excellent.

Women need to have more self esteem so they don’t hook up with these loser guys. Men can have many many children. Why pick on women?

Candlelight vigil planned for children killed
A candlelight vigil is planned for Tuesday evening to remember three children killed in recent weeks.

It will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Sunset Park, where the mother of 3-year-old Daniel Theriot reported him missing Sunday. The boy's body was later found in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

In a similar case, the mother of 3-year-old Dejah Hunt reported her daughter missing on Aug. 23 before the girl's body was found in a duffel bag in an apartment closet near Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards.

Once again, like in Lucas' case. We have someone with a prior history of child abuse/neglect being allowed around a partner's children.

In the second recording posted at 3:02 pm above, their case starts at 26:46 on the recording. Did I give the wrong Info?

I copied word per word from the second video I posted at 3:02 pm. I assumed "the state" was referring to the 3 yr- old when he said he was found and taken to the hospital. I did not think he was referring to Oxford's prior child abuse case. He did not say the doctors or nurses examined the 3 yr-old, he used the words "The people at the hospital."

I don't recall talk of the 2 year old. I will go back and listen again to see if they mention the younger brother too and if they were talking about the past criminal charges on Oxford and not Daniel.

Yes, Oxford has a record for child abuse and was with these two boys. Not sure if Smith knew of his past and then again if she did know, she did not care.


Yes, I now believe it was about Daniel. I copied what was said.

The lawyer representing Oxford said. "The state has made a couple of representations about injuries found on one of these children and we have not seen any medical records. It is typical for the doctors at the hospital to see these and say they are "quote unquote" consistent with child abuse but the fact is we don't know who was with these children, we don't know what the extent of these injuries are, other than complete and pure speculation and supposition by the state at this point. Otherwise they would have a criminal complaint filed before your honor today. So I am going to ask you to leave the bail at $5,000"

The only mention I heard of the 2 yr old was, "More concerning to the state is that now we learned that this child or another child may or may not have been found deceased. The mother admitted when arrested the injuries occurred while in the custody of the male defendant"

Ugh. So mom just moved to Las Vegas to be with her boyfriend less than a month ago. Oxford has a 2013 conviction for child abuse and neglect. He also has eleven failures to appear and a previous battery domestic violence charge.
[Smith's cousin] Kahles told KVVU that before Smith moved to Las Vegas last month to be with her boyfriend, she lived with Kahles’ mother in Texas and cared for her. During this time, Kahles worried about her mother and Smith’s two sons.

“Every time I would come to town to visit my mom, I would just have to deep clean that house and tell [Smith], ‘Hey, you need to clean the boys after they eat. You have roaches in this house, they can’t live like this,’ ” she recalled. “There’s roaches living in their beds, there’s roaches in her bed. It was absolute filth and disgusting.”

Some of the details were shocking to hear, including hemorrhaging and burn marks. Equally concerning for prosecutors was the criminal history of the man police found supervising Daniel’s younger brother, Brandon Theriot, while police were still searching for Daniel.

“He has a previous conviction for child abuse, neglect and that was in 2013,” said the prosecutor. “Eleven failures to appear and a previous battery domestic violence charge.”

Another little one lost. Mom didn't protect him, boyfriend used him as a convenient punching bag. Sick and disgusting, both of them.
