"Trump is back at his Florida home - the golf club Mar-a-Lago - and is expected to make remarks in the next few minutes.

He is surrounded by family members and supporters in the ballroom. The Manhattan judge did not impose a gag order, leaving many wondering what he might say about the charges and his arrest earlier today."

Trump talking about religion makes me laugh.

It’s sacrilegious, IMO.

I’m not sure why some very good evangelicals support Trump so fervently. He is the antithesis of a Bible-believing Christian. He's not humble, he’s not faithful, he’s not a truth-teller, and his public views on abortion and other matters shifted completely when he decided to run for president the first time.

He had money, power and fame, many luxury homes, a jet, a TV show, hotels, casinos and golf courses, and three beautiful wives. Children who for some reason still defend him, no matter how he wounded their mothers.

What he didn’t have was having “Hail to the Chief” being played upon his entrance, being saluted and called “Sir,” the ability to mingle with world leaders, and all the other accoutrements that come with being the president of the United States.

He didn’t want to relinquish all that and his father taught him that being a “loser” was the worst fate possible. Therefore he decided he didn’t lose the election.

What a wonder it would be if being indicted actually instilled some humility in him, even though two impeachments didn’t do that.

On a separate note, my son-in-law used to work security at Trump Tower. He’s never told us any stories regarding this doorman and any baby Trump had with a maid. Staff, like staff everywhere, usually know a lot of behind the scenes gossip so this particular story doesn’t ring true to me, but what do I know? I wouldn’t put it past DT.

Getting ready to watch Trump preaching to the choir at Mar-a-Lago. I predict we all know, verbatim, what he will say.

All is JMO.

We have reporters inside the ballroom already ... I am watching a Ch7 (Australia) journalist who is live streaming from the ballroom.

I imagine other countries will have the same kind of coverage.
The UK also has live coverage.

My earlier post was about a major UK MSM flat out calling the US ex-president a liar.

Trump denies committing crime

In his first public remarks since being charged with 34 felony counts related to business fraud Trump said: "The only crime I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it".

Listing the litany of political and legal accusations that have been levied against him over the years, Trump chalked the charges up to just another partisan attack.

'Our country is going to hell' - Trump

The first few minutes of Trump's speech will sound familiar to anyone who has heard his campaign stump speech before.

He lists all the ways that he says he has been persecuted since launching his 2016 campaign all those years ago.

He decries the two times he was impeached - a historic first for any president - calling them both hoaxes.

"The illegal and unconstitutional raid on Mar-a-Lago, right here," he adds, referring to the 2022 FBI raid to recover sensitive government documents at the estate.

The crowd boos as he mentions the raid.

"Our country is going to hell," he says.

"The world is already laughing at us for so many other reasons," he adds.

I think Trump's speech is going to consist of deep apologies to the nation for the schemes he was involved in misleading the people, and assurances of his faithful and unfailing love for his wife.

He is faultless. "Radical Left" "Hardcore Democrats think this is wrong" "The world is laughing at our open borders" "We are not far away from nuclear war". And that is in the first few minutes.

Now we are onto how open and transparent he was about the Confidential documents stored at Mar A Lago.

So far, this has been a version of the classic Trump stump speech – rambling, repetitive, and bereft of fact.

The ex-president has started off by listing a number of unrelated political grievances, referring back to his first impeachment and issues with social media companies, and lobbed accusations against Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

He reiterated anti-Semetic rhetoric to discredit the Manhattan district attorney, denied the charges, then launched into a rambling, heavily embellished rant on the unrelated investigation into the top-secret documents found at Mar-a-Lago, then started on the civil fraud suit brought by the New York state attorney general.

The speech blurs distinctions between the investigations and court battles he is facing ahead, lumping them all into a singular enemy.

Trump begins speech by reiterating debunked election fraud claims

Trump started his speech around 8:25 p.m. as the crowd chanted "USA."

“I never thought anything like this could happen in America. Never thought it could happen," said Trump in his opening remarks after thanking the audience.

"The only crime I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it.”

Here are some of the big names attending Trump's speech

Vaughn Hillyard and Zoë Richards

Some of Trump's family and top allies on Capitol Hill appeared for tonight's speech at Mar-a-Lago.

In attendance were three of his adult children, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany Trump, who were joined by their spouses. Also present were GOP Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida, Matt Rosendale of Montana and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. Greene had also traveled to New York to protest on behalf of the former president.

Key campaign staffers were also seen arriving shortly after Trump's plane landed in Florida. Mike Lindell, the MyPillow CEO, who promoted Trump's election fraud claims was also present.

Notably, Trump’s wife, former first lady Melania Trump was not in attendance at the speech.

Trump calls special counsel Jack Smith a 'flamethrower'

Ginger Gibson

Trump rattled off a list of the legal woes he's currently facing and offered criticism for each.

When it came to special counsel Jack Smith — who's leading a probe into Trump's handling of classified documents after he left office and his role in the effort to overturn the 2020 election — Trump accused him of being a "flamethrower."

He went on to suggest Smith's name is an alias, although he offered no reason to believe he's anyone else.

Trump finally addressed the indictment… briefly

He attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and his family – bringing up Bragg’s wife’s tweets. He also attacked the judge assigned to the case, calling him a “Trump-hating judge with a Trump-hating wife and family”.

Trump did not, however, denied paying hush money to cover up an extramarital affair.

Trump finishes speech largely focused on complaints about legal cases

Ginger Gibson
Trump finished his speech at about 8:50 p.m. ET after rattling off a list of complaints about the various investigations into him, his company and family.

He spoke for just 25 minutes, shorter than Trump's usual long, meandering speeches.

Trump offered criticism of Biden, but otherwise stuck to criticizing prosecutors and judges.
