I am sooo glad her killer has been found.

Some time ago, an off-duty cop saw him acting suspiciously somewhere in Howard Beach, and called the local precinct.

The suspect was questioned at that time but police found no valid reason to hold him and he was released without charges.

Earlier this past week, investigators approached him again.

They asked him for a DNA sample, which he gave voluntarily — thereby potentially sealing his own fate, sources said.

He had no prior record, so until he agreed to a cheek swab, his DNA profile had been unknown to law enforcement, sources told The Post.

So he went back into Howard Beach after he had killed Karina ? And that's when an off duty LEO thought he seemed suspicious ? But LE couldn't detain him then...wow, he must be very skilled at deception ...jmo

I'm thinking he wasn't skilled at deception as much as LE were skilled at noticing there was something about him worth watching.

Speculating: Thinking on lower end of intelligence scale

Might explain voluntarily providing dna, not asking for attorney, providing very detailed description of homicide

Prob did not follow case in newspapers, tv etc

That is what I am thinking too.

Just wondering if he had scratch marks visible ? Wonder too if his dna matches the dna found on her throat and under her fingernails ?

I don't think he was "noticed" right after the crime. I think it took months to piece it together. I'm thinking any injuries Karina gave him were healed by the time he was on LE radar. JMOpinion

Reporter had asked question did his DNA ONLY match her cellphone (implying there could be other reasons why his DNA matched her cellphone)...to which reply was his DNA matched both the DNA from KV and from the crime scene

I recall the reports of a man taking to himself near where her body was found. Several people reported he was saying "he did it, he killed here". I belive he has some sort of psychological history. Hope I get his picture as he is being escorted in to the court house.

That guy wasn't Chanel Lewis though, was it?

The reports match up with what the chief said during the conference. I could be way off on this.

I'm not picking up the vibe they are the same person as I think Chanel's encounters with LE were more low-key than a rant. But....we'll eventually find out.

Boyce said police expect to have the results of DNA analysis of body fluids found at the scene in a few days.

A law enforcement source said detectives couldn’t tell from a visual analysis of the evidence whether the fluids found were saliva or semen but that DNA testing will be able to determine that.

“Karina helped us identify this person,” Boyce said. “She had the DNA under her nails, she had touch DNA on her back and there was more DNA on the cell phone. That’s how we were able to bring the profile up and that’s how we made the link.”

Investigators found DNA on her body, but it did not match anyone in the data banks.

According to Boyce, investigators were able to create a suspect profile based off of a 911 phone call that placed Lewis in the Howard Beach area months before the murder.

Boyce said Lewis does not have a criminal history, but does have

That male was cleared of any involvement in KV's murder. No DNA match, etc:

<snip> On Sept. 27, [MF], 47, was taken into custody after he was found naked and ranting in the same marshy park where Vetrano was killed. [MF] was apparently agitated and incoherent, yelling that “the father did it... I have nothing to do with it,” according to a police source.

[MF's] DNA, however, did not match the samples found on Vetrano's body and belongings, police said in early October.

I caught that as well. I can't find much about him. Also no social media presence, only an instagram. But not 100% sure if it's his so won't link. No photos on it though.

I'm not finding anything either, at least not for a male. (I always feel sorry for innocent people who share names with perps!!)
