"THE BRONX — The mother of slain teen Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz was barred from returning to court Tuesday, after yelling out loud during the cross-examination of cooperating witness Michael “Sosa” Reyes.

Shortly after the incident, however, court was canceled for the day because of a sick juror...."

JUNIOR'S MOM ANGRILY LEAVES COURT -- AGAIN: Why the mother of the slain Bronx teen had an outburst while a major witness was talking about his friend with the "man bun." She was told not to return to court for the rest of the day. Mary Murphy spoke to her after to find out why. Join us for a recap of today's proceedings and what's expected next.

Absolutely horrible what the family is going through. I now see why it's better to have cameras in courtrooms. The public is in the dark about so much. Appreciate Mary Murphy!

Junior’s mother agrees to watch remainder of murder trial from outside courtroom following outbursts

JUNE 6, 2019

"THE BRONX — The mother of slain teen Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz and officials with the Bronx District Attorney’s Office came to a joint decision Thursday that she will watch the remainder of the murder trial from a separate “overflow” room.

The decision was made two days after Leandra Feliz started screaming in Spanish during the cross-examination of cooperating witness Michael “Sosa” Reyes, and stormed out of the courtroom. She was told not to come back for the rest of the day.

Leandra Feliz and the DA came to the joint agreement on Thursday, according to Christopher A. Carrion, principal attorney and founder at Carrion Law Group, P.C.

Junior’s father, Lisandro Guzman, was present for the morning portion of the day’s proceedings, but left during the lunch break. He had no response to the cross-examination of Reyes....

The cross-examination will continue Friday."

The defense team in the Trinitarios murder case of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz requested a mistrial and for Junior’s mother to be banned from the courtroom, following another outburst of “asesino” during proceedings. The mistrial was not granted but the judge is considering the ban.

If Junior’s mother is banned from trial, the family would be provided with other accommodations to listen. This would not be the first action the court has taken against the family; Junior’s brother was banned earlier after threatening one of the defense attorneys on Instagram.

Michael Reyes, a cooperating associate of the Trinitarios gang began cross-examination today. He agreed to testify “candidly, fully and truthfully,” according to court documents. In exchange, the government will drop charges against him. Junior’s father shook his head at this.

One of the prosecutors in Junior’s murder case told the judge she had spoken with the deceased’s family “multiple times” about vocalizing their emotions in court and that she was trying to “control” the situation. But emotions run high because “this is a murder case.”

The judge, who delayed his ruling regarding Junior’s mother’s access to the courtroom, noted: “It’s a very dramatic action on the part of the court. I wouldn’t do it lightly, obviously, but I will think about it. She’s not crossed the threshhold, but she’s close to it.”

The Bronx murder trial of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz never resumed after lunch. A juror ate something, felt bad and an ambulance had to be called. All in all: about an hour and a half of testimony in a day that started at noon and ended for lunch before 1:30 pm.

Bronx teen in bodega slay ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz died from knife to neck

June 8, 2019

"Slaughtered innocent Bronx teen Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz suffered numerous cuts, scrapes and bruises when he was attacked outside a bodega by gangbangers who allegedly mistook him for a rival — but it was a single stab wound that went clear through his neck that killed him, autopsy testimony revealed Friday.

The only fatal wound was four and a half inches deep, from a straight blade that entered the right side of his neck, severed his jugular vein, and exited the left side, pathologist Dr. Sophia Rodriguez told jurors in his ongoing murder trial.

“Mr. Guzman-Felix bled to death,” she testified. “He lost a lot of blood which led to shock to the body. The organs began to shut down.”

The 15-year-old might have survived the grievous injury — but only if pressure had been applied to his neck immediately, and he had been taken quickly to the hospital, the doctor said.

The ME was the final prosecution witness in the case against five reputed Trinitario gang members, whose defense case begins next week.

Friday’s testimony may implicate defendant Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, who is the only defendant who surveillance tape appears to show striking Guzman-Feliz in the neck with a knife."

Prosecution rests in Junior case after showing graphic autopsy photo

"THE BRONX -
Prosecutors rested their case today in the Junior murder trial, but not without a graphic and powerful finish.

Prosecutors showed jurors an autopsy photo showing the lethal wound to the neck of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz.
Community member Elizabeth De Jesus likened the photo to a horror movie. Junior’s parents were not in court, having been warned the images would be shown....

The defense will have a chance Monday to call witnesses to the stand if they chose. After that, they will lead off summations."

Closing arguments begin in slain teen ‘Junior’ Guzman murder trial; lawyers point to suspect accused of fatal blow

JUN 10, 2019

"A jury was asked to decide Monday whether all of the suspects charged with killing Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz intended to kill the teen when they descended upon him with knives and a machete outside a Bronx deli — or if one went rogue.

During their closing arguments, lawyers for Antonio Rodriguez Hernandez Santiago, Elvin Garcia, Manuel Rivera and Jose Muniz pointed the finger at Jonaiki Martinez Estrella, who is accused of delivering the blow that ended Junior’s life.

“An abhorrent act. A renegade act. An act by one man — only one man — that killed Junior,” said Toni Messina, Rivera’s lawyer. “Don’t blame my client for the decision of someone else.”...

Closing arguments for Estrella are expected Tuesday along with the prosecution team’s summation."

Defense lawyers in ‘Junior’ trial argue defendants were only trying to rough him up, not kill him

JUNE 10, 2019

"CONCOURSE, The Bronx -- They were just trying to rough "Junior" up — not kill him, so they don't deserve the most severe punishment.

That’s the pitch defense attorneys for four of the five defendants in the murder case made to jurors on Monday in a last-ditch effort to convince them that only one of the five actually killed Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz in a brutal attack almost one year ago.

Assistant District Attorney Morgan Dolan has argued that all five men — Manuel Rivera, Elvin Garcia, Jose Muniz, Antonio Rodriguez Hernandez Santiago, and Jonaiki Martinez Estrella — intended to kill Junior on the night of June 20, 2018....

After weeks of testimony and delays, the defense team made their summations on Monday, painting a picture of a group of men who had no intention of killing Junior....

On Tuesday, Jonaiki Martinez Estrella will get his final opportunity to make his case for innocence. His attorney, Kyles Watters, will defend.

That summation will be followed by a closing argument by prosecutors, closing the trial.

Wednesday is a pre-scheduled day off from the trial, and Judge Robert Neary said that the jury could get the case as early as Thursday, and then will begin deliberations.

A verdict could come as early as Friday, although with so many defendants facing so many charges, it may take days for the jury of 11 women and one man to conclude...."

Defense leads off closing arguments in the Junior trial (with clip)

Jun 11, 2019

"THE BRONX -
Lawyers in the Junior trial are expected to continue their closing arguments today.

However, on Monday, the defense took the floor first for closings, and they were playing the blame game, as they try to pin the murder of the Belmont teen on only one of the defendants.

The defense argued that not all of the gang members had the same intent.

"There was no agreement...there was no pact, there was no decision, there was no order to kill,” says Toni Messina who represents Manuel Rivera, telling the jury that Lesandro 'Junior' Guzman-Feliz would have suffered more stab wounds if they all wanted him dead....

Closing arguments continue today."

Emotional finish at ‘Junior’ closing arguments; jury to deliberate Thursday (with clip)

"THE BRONX -
It was an emotional finish to closing arguments Tuesday in the 'Junior' murder trial.

Some jurors broke down in tears after prosecutor Morgan Dolan spoke in the Bronx County Hall of Justice courtroom. She included a video compilation of the pursuit and stabbing of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman Feliz, a Belmont teen who was attacked by accused gang members last June."Their intent...when you thrust the knife over and over again, and when you hack the machete over and over again, is the intent to kill," she told the jury.

Of the 14 suspects, five are currently on trial for first-degree murder charges. The other nine are facing second-degree murder charges...."

‘Junior’ Guzman ‘fought like hell,’ prosecutors tell Bronx jury in final arguments

JUN 11, 2019

"The alleged killers of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz had every intention to hurt him, even as the teen “fought like hell" against a relentless, torturous attack, a Bronx prosecutor told jurors Tuesday.

In her closing statement, assistant district attorney Morgan Dolan argued that if some of the assailants’ stabs missed their mark, it was because Junior resisted so ferociously.

“This 15-year-old boy, in the moments before his death, fought and fought like hell," Dolan said. "Because he resisted their efforts to stab him does not diminish their intent.

“It just means at that moment, he had a stronger intent to live.”

She then methodically picked apart each of the suspects’ defense claims...."

Defense attorneys slam ‘Junior’ Guzman-Feliz as a gang kid

"Lawyers for the gangbangers accused of slaughtering an innocent teen outside a Bronx bodega last summer insisted in their closing arguments that the 15-year-old aspiring cop was a gang member.

“Junior was in a gang,” defense attorney Kyle Watters told jurors at Bronx Supreme Court on Tuesday. “It wasn’t a case of mistaken identity. It was a case of misfortune.”..."

Imo, the jury won't like the defense blaming the victim as a gangbanger.

I doubt any gangbanger has aspirations to become a police officer.

Maybe thoughts of how they would like to kill a police officer rather than being one. Imo

The deliberation, and verdicts shouldn't take a long time.

"Watters admitted that Junior’s death was horrible, but says it may have been prevented if someone had just applied pressure to his neck, recounting what the Medical Examiner testified." Anthony Carlo's Notes for Junior Trial Day 17

You know you have seen the lowest level of a human being when hear these words come out of a person's mouth defending the actions of an animal.

Kids at my school are worried that there will be an uptick in gang violence if these monsters are convicted. I don't think there will be but it is a long, hot summer coming on....

It continues to amaze me how low defense attorneys are willing to go trying to get such awful people back in society, and on our streets again walking away free.

Imo, they have no shame. It shows why defense attorneys are so disliked.

How they are able to sleep at night has always astounded me. It's like they dont have a conscience either much like the criminals they defend, and represent.

It's one thing to make sure the state meets their burdern of proof, but now defense attorneys go far beyond that...loving to blame the victims, and making the most outrageous totally unsupported assumptions.

We have seen such unethical behaviors by the 2 defense attorneys in the Charles Merritt quadruple murder trial as well.

Our justice system is in a world of hurt when defense attorneys are allowed to blame the victim or try to blame someone else who is totally innocent. They shouldn't be able to throw out mean nasty unsupported assumptions, and then pretend they are facts in evidence when they absolutely are not.

Five Trinitarios gang members are on trial for the murder of Lesandro Guzman-Feliz, charged with: 1. Murder in 1st degree, 2. Murder in 2nd, 3. Manslaughter in 1st, 4. Conspiracy in 2nd and 5. Gang assault in 2nd. Each must be found guilty/ not guilty of either 1-3 and then 4-5.

The difference between being found guilty of Murder in the 1st degree compared to the 2nd is that the 1st includes torture. Lesandro Guzman-Feliz’s medical examiner said Friday that every machete wound on his body was superficial, except for a fatal stab to the neck.
