After Gilbert and her attorney ended their news conference, a lifeguard got into an argument with Oak Beach Mayor Gus Coletti, charging that he failed to secure a surveillance tape from the beach guard house that would have shown the whereabouts of Shannan the night she vanished. Screaming, "you killed a girl," the lifeguard called the mayor a "liar," suggesting he did not turn the tape over to police. Coletti later told reporters he did give the surveillance video to police, but it was of no value because someone had recorded over it.

This lifeguard is flukeyou. Does CS own a strip club?

Wow! Good for Mari, and I'm glad people are starting to speak up on her behalf.

I don't believe for a second that Shannan didn't get paid. My understanding is that escorts always ask for money upfront. I think that JB is just saying that - and that he didn't sleep with her, which I think is also baloney - just to avoid embarrassment and possible prosecution for hiring an escort (not that they'd ever do that, of course. Since when do the johns get in trouble.)

They get into trouble all the time, but to be prosecuted there has to be proof. Confessing publically that you paid would do it, so, even if he did pay her, he would say that he didn't to avoid being charged.

Personally, I loved the outfits... I think it's great when people wear something different! I'm sure it would be Tim Gunn approved, too.... :)

I think the Mom spoke very well. I'm surprised that the FBI isn't already involved. We are not only talking about Shannan, but 10 other people and a police force who act more like a farce.

Shannan really looked a lot like her mother... I'm so happy they aren't sugar coating or denying that Shannan was an escort/prostitute.. It might be a good strategy to put more pressure on certain people.

Did they say anything about the things found? I thought they would, but maybe I didn't catch it.

I'm becoming quite confused. It could be 2 sks. Or just 1 who has changed his mo. I don't know what to think except that this is a cold case. We may never find out who has done these things.

No buzzards in those parts. Just a thousand hungry sea gulls that nest there. No one would think twice about seeing sea gulls there.

Seaslug, there are mostly sea gulls, but between Tobay Beach and The Jones Beach Theater is an enormous 'Bird Sanctuary.' My sons ride their bikes through the pathways. I have seen (I'm not sure if it's the same one) an Eagle, quite a few times and I have seen Red Tailed Hawk. I assume they are there because of the abundance of fish and crabs.

I've been saying that LISK is a lawyer or some sort of executive in Manhattan. I strongly believe that he has a lot of money, clean cut and drives a really nice car. However, my cousin was saying that one can't be a psychopath and a busy practicing lawyer. At least not in the sense of being a serial killing psychopath. He says most or all of these types of psychopaths are just plain losers. BTK wasn't exactly a loser as he did have a decent job, in my opinion.

Anyway, we are thinking that LISK is a "trust fund baby" with lots of money and a couple of houses. My cousin believes that he didn't accomplish much in life. He probably has a college degree but isn't so successful as he has never really had to work. Killing prostitutes is a sport for him and he is very friendly, polite and generous with them. In no way does he make them feel like they are a prostitute when he dates them.

IMHO, I think it's possible the perp has legal knowledge, especially in criminal law. Did he get this knowledge because he went to law school? Does he work for a lawyer in some capacity but is not a lawyer himself? Does he have family and/or friends in the legal profession (I can't picture this guy having friends, IMHO. If he does, I would be stunned and amazed if he had more than 2. IMHO.)? Or is he self taught?

If he is gainfully employed, it's my opinion he has a flexible schedule or works from home. It's hard for me to picture him being accountable to a boss though.

Voice Changers are pretty obvious especially when you try to play off the opposite sex. I have heard many ppl use it on a very well known Virtual World on line game.
I do like this theory of the phone company and employees makes sense to me as a lead worth looking into.
edit to add:
I live on the inter-coastal mangrove swamps of the SE, USA and I am always looking for the buzzards and watching where they swarm thinking they are cleaning up something that died. The Oak Beach residents had to see them it is not that far away and with knowing a missing girl from there streets has not been found.
please these ppl are screwy, imo

Voice manipulation software ranges in quality and price according to my research (I entered "voice manipulation software" into various search engines and got some helpful info).

Some of the good stuff can cost a pretty penny. How would he be able to afford it if he did use this software? Of course it's free if it's pirated.

I worked for the phone company for awhile. There is a wealth of information on customers' accts...address, place of employment, phone # of workplace, etc. Alot of employees can access that information easily. (it is forbidden but some do, I've heard of others doing it) The company also provided ongoing training for technological advances.

Which victim's mother received a phone call at her place of employment and the caller claimed to be a NY police officer? She was suspicious because she had not given her work # to the police for contact.

This would be the type of information an employee of a phone co. could easily access thru phone records regardless if in a call center setting or a tech/engineering setting.

The very thought makes my geek o meter go off the charts!

Thanks for mentioning this Dwntwnslim as I have given thought to this possibility.

I must say, when I posted these questions I was thinking he could be a software developer, programmer, IT tech etc. (I thought maybe he would be drawn to this type of field because of his craving for control), that I hadn't given much thought to other professions. I got tunnel vision!

Thanks for opening my mind and eyes to other possibilities!

Review post #18 at the following link for another theory.

Telephone companies have employees in all of your above mentioned positions, Dwntwnslim. The capabilities for someone in the employment of the phone company to track others is mindboggling.

When setting up a landline, very specific info is required from the customer....next of kinname address phone #, ss #, previous addresses, place of work, work #, power bill for proof of residency. Yea!

If the customer also has a wireless phone with the same company, then those records are easily accessible also.

Let's just pretend for a minute that a phone co. tech sits in a room monitoring meters all the live long day, who's hobby at home is to monitor CL's escort sites. He has the ability to track these women in his profession and is able to justify it in case his superiors question him. His position may require travel on the East coast to conduct ongoing training.

Also, i would like to point out that the co. that I worked for was union. The union members with seniority had their vacation days set in stone year in and year out. This could explain the nature of the SK and his seemingly seasonal murders.

Sorry if this has been posted already but even Dr. Baden questions Dormer's theory.

"She ran into a place police couldn't get to?" said Baden who finds the theory questionable.

He NEVER should have publicly offered a theory on her COD right after finding her. This case is too high-profile now. If he ends up being wrong he's going to look like a buffoon to not only to his colleagues but citizens too. I'm not one of those people that thinks he is in general an idiot, but this was an idiot move and I'll sing it from the hills. I think he believes that the gen public deserves to know what's going on (to a degree, he isn't sharing everything) which I think is great. But this was a bad move and I can't understand it.

And we still don't have her official COD.

Okay, I get you. Thanks for clarifying.

Now I am even more intrigued by this theory of yours.

I know Claudette, Dormer should have waited until the autopsy results were released before he gave his OPINION on Shannan's cause of death. This was very unprofessional on his part, IMO.

My fear is that it will sway the results, whether or not the ME is conscious of it.

I wish that the autopsy could be observed by an objective party, FBI or whoever.

I become more skeptical of this bunch in OB and Suffolk county as each day passes. Good ole boy network is what comes to my mind.

I'm watching something on t.v. about the woman who disappeared in Kansas (Aisha Cann, who I predict ran away from her life, but of course that belongs on a different thread...!) She disappeared on Friday and "65 police officers along with FBI have already logged more than 400 man hours" to try to find her.

And they say that Shannan's profession had nothing to do with the lame response to her disappearance?!

I can't think of any other case where a COD has been so publicly speculated upon by LE prior to a determination by the ME. Therefore, I strongly suspect it is a mis-information campaign. They're trying to catch a serial killer, and right now, public perception probably isn't their highest priority. JMO
