I saw that earlier...in fact, that is when I came across the current activity in NY...looking to see if any chatter on the NO scanner. There was nothing here at the time, and only 1 news report from local NO news.

It's kind of a crazy story! I hope they have him!!

Not really if you think that one of the guys is from Steuben county - where they were first seen yesterday and using the southern tier expressway that could take them toward the direction of Buffalo - where the 2nd one is from and close to the Canadian border (Niagara Falls).

Matt is from the Buffalo area. Sweat is from Broome county - Binghamton area. Steuben is 3 counties west.

FWIW, they keep talking about route 86. It's not. It's route 17, being switched over section by section to Interstate 86, which will be 65mph instead of 55mph like much of route 17 still is, but they have to adjust some of the curves to handle the increased speed, and have to add more length to merge onto and off of exits because of the same thing, so some portions are called I86 now and the rest is still just "route 17" but it's all the same highway. It runs east/west. To locals it's route 17.

PS that's the same highway I see state troopers searching all the big trucks on every time I go over the state border the past weeks. They always do it periodicallyl but it's been every time I"ve gone through since this jail break.

People keep saying they likely would have split up or been caught.
People keep saying they can't believe it's been two weeks and they haven't been found.
Since the escape DH has taken a bit more of an interest in prison escapes.

We watched one last night about the Texas Seven.
This group subdued many officers and stole a vehicle to escape.
They had only a few minutes head start in a vehicle before their captive guards alerted LE.
They had no inside help and their escape was known as it happened.
The manhunt began immediately and it was for SEVEN of them.

Despite that, they stayed on the run for 39 DAYS... even after killing a cop on DAY 11.
They all stayed together and it still took that long to find them.
They did the opposite of what everyone expected they would do as far as where they went.

Just thought I'd point it out because it was rather surprising to me. :twocents:

They're still saying the sighting in Lindley may or may not be credible but the one near Friendship is being called credible on CNN right now. It's along railroad tracks again. This seems very promising. They're talking about Sweat living in north Binghamton, NY and Matt being from Tonawanda, NY - she said Binghamton is about 2 hrs away from Friendship and Tonawanda is about 1 hr 45 min away from Friendship. The CNN lady is saying that Tillie said she'd be driving them 7 hours away... the newscaster lady is saying the drive from Dannemora to Friendship would be about 7 hours.

Again, the prison was in Clinton county. Sweat is from Broome county, where the freight rail hub of NY state is located. The sighting we learned about last night/this morning from June 13 was in Steuben county. Now the search is in Allegheny county. Just to stay on the same page with how this is going down.

ETA - let me switch out this county map for the other NY one, hang on...

NY county map for those who are interested. Dannemora is in Clinton. Broome is three counties to the right of Steuben. Sweat is from Broome county. Steuben county is where these possible sightings occurred. Rensselaer county is where Tillie is being held in the city of Troy in their county lockup.

ETA: the rail map of NY I posted a few pages back. These guys were sighted near Gang Mills rail yard in Steuben county.

PS - Matt is from Buffalo which is in Erie county which... well.. they're almost to it kinda looks like. If they wanted to cross into PA and go south they wouldn't still be walking along the border, yet in NY would they? Hm.

Three counties west .....?
I live on the edge of Cattaraugus County (next to Allegany County) and drive to Buffalo every day to work. So not that far. I live only 90 minutes from Cuba. If they go north they can be in Buffalo in a couple hours. Rte 16.

They're almost to Tonawanda. Where Matt went every other time he broke out. IMO anyway. Allegany is awfully close to Erie.
