"That poor girl shouldn't even have been there when the killers showed up"
Hannah Gilley's mother on daily mail.

Interesting statement. Could mean she just didn't think her daughter should have been with FR period or, she was not supposed to be there at that time.

It did sound like that. I have been to a funeral before where it was a suicide. The person had a gunshot wound to the head and they had an open casket. It was clearly visible that part of his scull was gone. It was shocking to me that they chose to have it open. I can't imagine how it would be with the Rhoden's, but I guess that is the family's decision. Not mine.

Certainly their choice, but personally I do not care to see embalmed, made-up dead bodies. Cremation is the way to avoid that, and nice pics and videos of happy times when they were alive. Also, cremation is MUCH less expensive and wouldn't require the donations for the immense expenses of a funeral that large. Oh,well, to each his own. JMO

In August 2012, the Attorney General’s Office issued a press release saying BCE agents along with the Pike County’s Sheriff’s Office raided a grow site with more than 1,200 marijuana plants on a hillside off Hickson Road.

Investigators then said they found two abandoned campsites that they believed likely belonged to Mexican nationals. Authorities burned the plants estimated worth $1,000 to $1,500 apiece on the street.

In 2010, the Columbus Dispatch reported that 10 Mexican nationals were arrested at a 2,500-plant site in Muskingum County. A crack in the case came when the workers were followed there from yet another grow site in Logan County. It was suspected some of the would-be profits from those sites were destined for Mexico.

Yep, this is why I think at least at first the AG had it in his mind it's connected to possibly a cartel, or people like that. Plus Candy Newsome and her daughter were executed in Jan. Her daughter was friends with Hanna.

Regarding the locked door of Chris' mobile home, I wonder if Bobby checked the back door on the other side. I imagine she thought it was all strange because it was so quiet and noone was outside, checked the front door and it was locked.

I think someone did come in the back and the front door at the same time.

We've had many arrests in my county for Mexican *advertiser censored* fights, they love them. Could be some of the workers they met from the campgrounds started going to cockfights and drugs at Chris' place, and got to know all the family members killed.

You can get lots of info from the auditor's site, but make sure you type in OH when searching. That link is for Pike county Pennsylvania.

Phesant and Margo/Mom - Actually it is OHIO. You can see in my picture I even have one of CR1 properties pulled up. You did make me question my link though and for some reason it didn't work. So here is the generic link. https://www.uslandrecords.com/uslr/UslrApp/index.jsp select the state OHIO and then you can choose county. Not sure how anyone ended up on PA site, because when I clicked the link it didn't even work. Sorry about that.

I don't see Ruby pulling the reward money because he fears his family is in danger from Pike County locals growing pot for local sale. If that many locals are smoking, It would take hours just to get from Peebles to 23 because everyone would be going 15 mph. That large of an amount had to be going somewhere else.

This is out there, I realize, but is there a possibility LE asked Ruby to withdraw the reward? Sounds like they have plenty of tips without it. If the baby mamas story is true (I think it is for one of them), then LE could end up wasting a lot of time and resource on false leads, if LE doesn't think it's cartel-related, having Ruby withdraw would make a non-cartel murderer relax a bit...

In economically distressed Pike County, family means a helping hand, a shared dollar or a no-strings-attached place to stay. The economics and demographics of Pike County might parallel those of a Third World nation more than the rest of the United States, but residents fiercely value the proximity of their relatives on the subdivided plots of land they own.

In Pike county, family means survival, not slaughter.

Well, looks like there's no need for me to post today - Margo and K.L. have been reading my mind and interpreting my thoughts much more eloquently than I would have. Thank you ladies.

I'm praying that the search warrants prove fruitful.

Update, 2:10 p.m.: The visitation for six of the slain members of the Rhoden family began at noon today and is expected to last until 8 p.m. this evening. Traffic to Roger W. Davis Funeral Home (1310 3rd Street, West Portsmouth, Ohio) is expected to pick up around 4 p.m.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office sent a news release Monday afternoon with a limited update on the progress of the investigation into the April 22 killing of the seven members of the Rhoden family and Hannah Gilley.

"Over the course of this investigation, more than 100 total items of evidence have been sent to the BCI crime laboratory for DNA, ballistics, latent print, and trace analysis," the release stated.

Since the investigation began, 450 tips have been submitted to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

The two agencies also have conducted 128 witness interviews and contacts as part of the investigation, the release said.

I wondered about that when I read the article, but it made it sound like they would all be open. Hard to imagine...
What did you read that made you think all would be open?

I hope the visitation is well monitored. I see that as a place for grief and anger to boil right on over.

About 12 sheriff patrol cars here, uniformed officers all around visitation. Family greet folks inside. #PikeCounty

If people think the family deserved what happened to them that photo should blaze in their head. It's the reality of how horrible and evil those murderers are.

Looks like LE think there could be trouble too.

While I do not doubt that there is no "gang activity" in Pike County per se; as someone who lives in an urban area, I just want to point out that the apparent activities of the Rhoden family--which include production of an illegal substance and possible participation in another illegal activity--*advertiser censored*-fighting--certainly make them look to me qualitatively no different from a good many gang members. No gold chains, no "signs." But that's all just culture. Urban gangs tend to be similarly grouped around tight-knit families and centered around carrying out an underground and illegal activity. If we want to go back to mob activities of the 40s and 50s we see exactly the same sort of thing--a family-based cluster of individuals carrying out illegal activities in order to "earn" money. So--while there are likely no Bloods or Crips in Pike County (and may or may not be a Mexican cartel involvement), I do believe it is helpful to look at what we know about how some of these groups operate or have operated.

And I will continue to point out, as my own opinion, that the Rhodens had to be connecting with someone outside of Pike County as their primary customer. Which takes us again to the various known elements who buy in bulk for distribution.

IMO

Yep.

Definition of a cartel according to My Dayton Daily News:

"Cartel: A criminal enterprise developed to control drug trafficking. Can be loosely managed arrangements among various drug traffickers to highly formalized agreements."

And just for the record, I think this whole thing is a tragedy. My heart breaks for those families and friends.
