Per affidavit, after being Mirandized at Duncan PD, Oct 14, Alan confessed to Duncan PD Det Joe Shoemake,
on Oct 9
to stealing fathers gun,
to entering family home w intent to kill all 3,
to shooting mom,
then to shooting sister,
then to shooting father.
Then after Det Shoemake left room, Alan repeated confession to DA Chief Investigator Duncan Scott & Duncan Det. Dustin Smith.
Alan also said he removed certain items from the home, because he did not want to be caught, so he disposed of them.

More detail in affidavit.

(per news article, items were gun and DVR)

I missed that.
Was that in OUDaily article w Alan's Instagram (I could not read the Ig entries)

Thx in adv.
We asked Bormann if he knew of any Hruby family problems.

“He did say he’d spent close to $20,000 the month before, like the month coming to school and that his parents were kind of upset about that, obviously,” Bormann says.

I believe he went to Dallas for a UOklahoma football game after he murdered his family and this photo is taken from the Ritz Carlton where he stayed. I think he lived on campus.

On further reflection...would "Oklahoma" be in such letters at a Dallas stadium? The "Headington Hall" after the time stamp seems to refer to a fancy new residence hall at the University of Oklahoma that was built by the athletics department. Maybe he lives there and that's the view from his room?
It is the new residence hall he was living in at OU. You can Google Headington Hall and see the location of the stadium etc.

What an awful person. It's so sad Mr. Hruby didn't realize the danger they were in when the gun went missing. I'm so glad to see he had his Miranda warning! I know the first thing his Uber flashy defense attorney will do is go after the confession (yeah, I'm speculating he hires a flashy atty. Fits his personality).

Thx for this link and quote. I watched vid interview of Andrew, his roommate.
I wonder if Alan made the spent-$20,000-one-month comment as a joke or exaggeration.
Ditto his comment about shopping addiction.

How can 18-19 y/o spend $20,000 in one month? Or even $10,000?
Not borrowing money to finance a car?
Not taking out a student loan to cover a year's expenses?

Actually spend? Drugs? Casino gambling? Other gambling?
I saw something about Alan owing $3000 to a "loan shark." Sorry no link.

Could it be all hype?
Let's see:
- He got a bogus Amex card, in his G'ma's name, to boot;
- He used bogus card to pay for a trip;
- (I'm wondering if he scrounged up $ to pay Amex or if Mom & Dad ponied up $)
- He violated probation terms by going to Dallas for football game;
- He left cell in dorm instead of taking to Dallas, so he could not be GPS-tracked.
- He confessed to LE to stealing Father's gun which he planned to use to kill Father, Mother, sister.
- He confessed to 2 diff LEs to premeditation re killing of Father, Mother, sister.
- He confessed to 2 diff LEs to carrying out his premeditated shootings of Father, Mother, sister.
- He did not want to be caught for murder so he disposed of gun & other item.
- After killing Father, Mother, & sister, his actions w roommate & friends did not reveal any nervousness or unusual emotions.
Yeah, imo, moo, jmo, Alan might have exaggerated a teensy-weensy bit about spending. I could be wrong.

RIP Mr Hruby, Mrs Hruby and daughter Hruby; healing thoughts for family and friends.

Yes, I think it was total exaggeration by Alan to his roommate to make himself seem like the spoiled rich kid he wanted to be. I also am guessing his trip to Europe was probably a graduation gift from high school either by his parents or possibly another relative. He used the credit card of his grandmother for expensive shopping sprees and outings I believe, but not the trip itself. The parents seemed to provide quite well for their kids from the outside perspective.

It is the new residence hall he was living in at OU. You can Google Headington Hall and see the location of the stadium etc.

The Daily Mail contends that he took that photo to try to show that he was at school the night of the murders. They also say: "Court records also show Duncan police had been investigating Alan since August because of evidence he had forged checks totaling $17,500" so perhaps he really did spend as much as he said.

edited to add: I have to say that I have found the DM not always the most accurate of news sources.

The ever present question I have with these cases is, did the parents have any idea of the danger they were in? Were there problems with him for years?

IMO this type of murder is the most disturbing when someone kills their family who loved them. The abused children I can understand murder but this type monster murder hell is not deep enough for him. Jmt

ciao

This is OU Stadium. It was a view from his 6th floor dorm room across the street.

How's he going to be able to hire "flashy defense attorney?" Doubt the remaining family members are going to rally around him.

He will most likely be assigned a public defender. I doubt he has any means to pay a defense attorney. And I'm positive that he won't be inheriting or collecting insurance money now to do so either.

Innocent until proven guilty. I don't know the inheritance laws of OK, but what if he can inherit? I certainly hope family would contest it!! Also, some lawyers will do these cases pro Bono for the publicity. It's sick.

Eta: obviously when he is convicted he loses his claim

I edited my post, clearly when there is a conviction a person forfeits their claim. I'm guessing in the interim someone is appointed to oversee the estate. I'm just curious if he has any rights. I sure hope not. In my world he can go right past a trial and directly to prison!!!

Do I have this straight?

MrH & MrsH and dau lived in Duncan OK (2012 pop = 23,000+) in Stephens Co.
Per http://www.city-data.com/city/Duncan-Oklahoma.html,from 2001-2012, Duncan had 5 murders; 42 F-T police officers, in 2007.

MrH was publisher of The Marlow Review, a weekly newspaper with a circulation of ~3,500 in Stephens Co.
MrsH was a reporter on the crime beat.
Per http://www.city-data.com/city/Marlow-Oklahoma.html, Marlow, from 2001- 2012, had zero murders and relatively low crime rates.
How wonderful that the Marlow crime rates are so low, it seems covering the crime beat would not put her in danger there.
Ironic, that the danger was in her own home.

AlanH was a freshman at OU, lived in dorm on campus, in Norman OK.
After killing parents & sister Thursday evening, he travelled to Dallas for college football game (did not attend), then returned to campus.
None of the ppl he was around over the wk-end noticed anything unusual about him, per his roommate in TV interview ~ Oct 15. Wow.

Seemingly happy family.

Hruby family victims of homicide
"A tragic end came to a family with deep ties in the Marlow and Duncan communities earlier this week.
Monday morning a housekeeper found Marlow Review owner and publisher John Hruby, 50, along with his wife Tinker, 48, and teenage daughter Katherine dead at their home at 1217 Bent Tree in Duncan.
Duncan police and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations crime scene technicians worked several hours to gather evidence from the crime scene where it would be determined to be a triple homicide."

There is no bigger rush then getting to the register at a store and swiping your credit card. And in that moment you are waiting for the screen to say, “Approved” you start to get heart palpitations and you get a rush of adrenaline. By the time she is handing your stuff to you, you are so high on adrenaline, the $15,000 total does not even phase you until you’ve gotten home and seen the receipts.

The pros to being a shopaholic are, you get insane in-store discounts, invited to sample sales, you always look nice, and your credit card rewards program account is always full! The con is well your bank account is never as full as your rewards account.

Being a confessed shopaholic of many years now, I have got a closet that is bursting at the seams and a pile of shoes that would rival a Beverly Hills housewives collection in terms of size. While getting discounts at numerous high-end retail locations and even getting invited to many sample sales for high-end retailers, it takes a lot of energy.
