In looking at Annie's last text to roommate, it asks "are you coming home to me?" Then she responds to herself "I am." That's simply bizarre.

YES. VERY BIZARRE comments from the roommate IMO! In the texts, if they "sstarted sharing locations Wednesday at 7:09", couldn't that have pinpointed where she was at that exact time?

With the help of spell check or clumsy fingers, I have sent plenty of bizarre texts myself. I think she's just saying she's already home.

True. But there seem to be text responses missing in between though...or she was answering her own questions. A one sided convo.

My younger brother is an adult, living in another part of the city. I barely see him. I will often asks my brother "Are you alive?" By texts. If I haven't heard from him in a week. He's not into SM so I need to keep track of him.
My parents retired out of the country, so he needs to answer to me, lol

I hope Annie is found.
I do find mom's finality kind of bizarre. However she knows more that we know. Maybe she was depressed or had a history of it.
Where are you Annie?

Sadly, they've suspended the search for Annie.

Like another poster stated upthread, the weekend that Annie was said to have gone hiking, we were experiencing CRAZY weather. Rain showers, wind (which it's always really windy in the gorge- so even moreso with a storm), and just dark clouds, wet grounds & def not the weather one would chose to go on a day hike alone.

I grew up in the gorge, and wouldn't have picked that weekend ever to go hiking. I guess others might be more adventurous... I guess I'm also trying to say I'm not sure foul play should be ruled out. Im thinking the family knows more than us being shared.
Still praying for a miracle for Annie! I don't know her, but from reading about her - she sounds like a wonderful young woman who's touched so many.

I think that's what she's trying to say too - she's already home. It would help to know if anything preceded "You coming home to me?:)"

I often send one text with a mistake then make another mistake trying to fix it. Then "damn you autocorrect!"

Whenever I am flying or even when I pick anyone up from the airport the person flying either calls or texts whoEVER is picking them up (something like) "Hey my flight just took off on time" or confirming everything is "still on". (I'm not the best at explaining what I mean sometimes)
It seems like she and her mom didn't touch base the day mom flew in.
I also can't see a mom giving up so soon that daughter not alive.

The mother and daughter definitely did not touch base, because the mother was not able to make contact with her daughter. Probably because the daughter was already missing.

The text message, along with mom's feeling that Annie is deceased, makes me wonder if the family knows more. For example, was there a history or suspicion of mental illness?

Or maybe the parents know their daughter well enough to know that she would never just disappear, unless she was in serious trouble.

Did someone already answer this? Not sure, but yes, you can pick and choose which texts to delete on an Apple device which is what she was texting from. All you have to do is hold down on a text bubble and hit "more" and circles will pop up on the left to give you the option to check them and delete or not. I have also sent some texts that looked wonky due to texting too fast and not paying attention to autocorrect, but imo it does look like texts were deleted. Also, I often ask people if they're alive if I haven't heard from them - it's just a way of saying "hey, I haven't heard from you" and I certainly don't think they're not alive.

I wonder some of the same things and I found it interesting the text less than 24 hrs of her missing asking if she is alive. I just think if my friend was missing I'd be asking if they are okay and I'm worried...blah blah (but then she seemed surprised anything might have been wrong when her mom arrived). Maybe there were some mental health issues (hard to figure things out when dealing with those that have mental health issues.

On the other hand, a lot of things don't make sense to me. Why would Annie post a sunset picture at 1:25 pm? Maybe she never even went hiking. Maybe someone posted that pic to stage it like she went hiking (sunset at 1:25 pm). I'd be curious to see cell phone pings. Did they move around that day? Did she have any new friends? Exes? I'd like to see a timeline. Too many questions.

One more thing. That photo (if posted by Annie) was somewhere she HAD been but then would've returned to her car. I doubt she'd venture back to the spot she already went to. Just my 2 cents.

From what I have seen on her Twitter feed, she made it a point to Tweet random inspirational pictures and music, that may or may not have been her own. I'm not sure if she even took the sunset picture, but if she did take the picture, she must have taken it sometime before the day she disappeared. IMHO.

BBM.

My guess on the text string is that it is not that texts are missing/deleted but that Annie Roommate had figured out from other forms of communication that failed to be responded to that something was wrong. I've been texted by someone before and responded in another form--email, phone, etc. Since Annie's phone was reported to be an older one with not so good of a battery, she may not have relied on texts to talk to her friends (Or Annie Roommate didn't text as often due to a limited plan/being in different networks or something). Anna may have been more active on other forms of social media with her computer. Maybe Annie Rommate tried to reach her through those other modes of communication or noticed she had not been on twitter or snapchat for a long time (for her) before texting "Are you still alive?"

I also think the picture she posted could have been taken at anytime, including on a previous trip she was reminiscing about. I'm guilty of this--I will post a picture from the year before of me at a place when I go there again or just when I wish I could go there again. Maybe that sunset/sunrise was once she watched with someone special on another earlier trip. The caption she included is interesting to me too. "Fill your life with Good Vibes". Not sure what it means to her personally or why she was thinking that at the time.

I had the same thought that she might have used a pic from somewhere else so I did a reverse google image search and it did not come up with any exact matches.

The gorge is beautiful but a lot of trails can be dangerous. We have had a lot of rain and windstorms this month but the gorge is usually windy regardless which season we are in. Annie is a daughter of one the Piano Guys who play beautiful music. Cell phone coverage is very spotty in the area as well.

Yes...obviously the picture was probably taken on another day (if posted by Annie) and it seems pointless to focus search efforts based on that which is the reason for my comment. Many do post "are you alive" but I just found it odd that after sending that message she was shocked something was wrong and shocked she and the mother weren't camping without a tent that hadn't arrived yet. Sounds like Annie and her roommate aren't that close. And I still stand my my personal opinion that Annie's last texts were odd (looks like someone goofed). Just my personal opinions.

Very sad to see the search ending already. They only searched fri, sat, and sunday.

On the fb page, an article states her dad thinks she may have gone to set up a tent she had received but her roommate said she had ordered one but not received it yet. This is also a little contradictory in that roommate says she thought Annie was already gone camping with her mom but also said her tent had not arrived yet. Did roommate not know when mom was scheduled to arrive and when camping was planned?

Something is not right here. Several inconsistencies and odd circumstances. They are not all adding up and I truly hope LE is doing a thorough investigation.

Roommate also didn't realize Annie was missing until Annie's mom's arrival but attempted location sharing wed around 7 am.

They didn't start sharing locations. Anna's roommate shared her own location with Anna. Anna did not reciprocate (unless it was cropped out of the screenshot).

Idk why the roommate sent her own location to Anna. I've accidentally sent my location on several occasions, so maybe it was unintentional.

I agree--the text conversation with the roomie is weird.

Here is what the roommate said of her last conversation with Anna,

“She didn’t say anything. She wasn’t like ‘I’m going hiking today.’ She didn’t say anything like that. She just said, ‘Do you want to hang out?’ I said I couldn’t,” the roommate said.

Then later on,

“She was very important to me. She’s a wonderful roommate, just a wonderful person. I really feel for her family. Annie is one of those people that has a lot of close friends, a lot of people that love her."

This article reads,

[Anna]had sent her father, Jon Schmidt, the pianist for The Piano Guys, a Snapchat that same day telling him she went hiking on the Tooth Rock Trailhead.

So it seems as if Anna was definitely in that area (as opposed to someone just dumping her car). Anna's last cell ping was on Sunday afternoon.

Media reports say that Anna's phone was found in her car, but I wonder if that's true?

Annie and roomie were close enough that now roomie has taken over annie's twitter and fb acts and pleading for help on both sites.

well then it seem a little strange her roommate wasn't slightly alarmed after Annie didn't respond to her "are you alive" text on Monday the day after her hike since Annie wasn't reported missing for two more days after that. Maybe Annie goes missing for days sometimes? I agree with the inconsistencies you mentioned and hope they are looked at by investigators as well.
