Numerous blades, including hand-made hatchet, examined in Grubbs murder case
October 21, 2013 - 6:05 PM

Police have meticulously considered hundreds of tips, interviewed nearly 2,000 people and analyzed hundreds of hours of surveillance footage collected from businesses around Ashland.

Falls said investigators have looked into the hatchet-like weapon pulled from Wagner Creek.

"It's come onto our radar," he said. "We have all that information and we're not going to comment on any of that.

"We don't comment on any of the stuff we have," Falls said.

Michael Grubbs, who is David's father, said he last talked with investigators about the case more than a month ago.

"They told me they ran out of leads and they'll react when they get a new tip," Michael Grubbs said. "They've run out of things to look at.

"They're calling it random," he said. "David was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

So what about that huge search in Talent off Rapp Rd??? I thought they hauled away a lot of stuff from there AND that farmhouse/barn had a connection to an acquaintance of his?

Apparently nothing. :(

David Grubbs' 26th Birthday to Benefit Ashland High School Music

"Happy Birthday David, I miss you and I love you."

Those are words Cheri Grubbs wishes she could say to her son in person, but she can't. Her son, David Grubbs, was murdered on the Ashland bike path two years ago and still nobody knows who did it.

"I want ashland to not become complacent about this. I want them to know that this person is still out there."

Grubbs would have turned twenty-six years old Saturday.

This is an interesting and somewhat critical look at the David Grubbs murder investigation in "The Sneak Preview" last October. Scroll to pages 39-40 after reading the front page.

I particularly appreciated the comments by former Ashland Police Chief Mike Bianca about the disadvantage of total confidentiality in an investigation. He says that communication by the police with the public promotes a positive feeling within the community and encourages people to come forward to help the police. He comments that "more crimes are solved that way than by all the high-tech gizmos and high-priced experts in the world."

I agree.

As the hills of Southern Oregon are blanketed by clouds and Autumn really digs her feet into the soppy ground to stay awhile, I am often reminded of David. Nearly three years after his murder there is still no arrest. My heart continues to hurt for all of his loved ones; I wish they could be granted a little bit of comfort knowing his killer was off the street.

WHOA! Just watched the local news here in OR and there is a POI in the case that was named. This person was in Ashland at the time before moving to WA state where he murdered someone. He confessed to the WA murder and Ashland PD think he has a strong connection to the Grubbs murder. Will see if I can find a link here to follow TOS.

Well, none of the local TV stations (even the one that reported it as the headliner in their evening broadcast) have the info on their webpages or fb feeds. I will give it an hour.

Found this thread looking for incidents related to bike paths around certain areas. I believe this is the story you're looking for, deca?

APD names person of interest in David Grubbs murder case

"Christian Delaurentiis is a man that used to live in Ashland sometime ago. He moved to Washington County, Oregon and was since charged with and convicted of murdering his roommate in Aloha in Washington County," said Ashland Police Deputy Chief Tighe O'Meara

According to Washington County Senior Deputy District Attorney Jeff Lesowski, Delaurentiis pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder and another count of abuse of a corpse. It's been agreed to that Delaurentiis will be sentenced to life in prison for murdering and dismembering his roommate in Aloha, Oregon back in May 2012.

However, before that in November of 2011, detectives believe Delaurentiis was in the Ashland area when Grubbs was killed.

Bryan Patrick Miller would have been in the Northwest when the David Grubbs murder occurred in Ashland Oregon. Miller was recently arrested for the two decapitation murders in the 1990's in Phoenix AZ. David Grubbs was killed and nearly decapitated on a bike path, just like the Phoenix victims. He was a young male, 23 years old, so that does not match his M.O. But still, that is interesting, that the murder was on a bike path. Both Ashland Oregon, and Everett Washington are on the I5 Highway. It would have been easy for him to go on kill trips up and down the I5 and drive home to Everett WA.

Perhaps David Grubbs startled Miller as he lay in wait for a female victim.

Thanks for that! I hung around looking for the link last night but nothing was posted before I had to go to bed.

Even this morning, (besides the KOBI 5 news station) not even the local papers or other news stations have anything about this development. I wonder if this POI has always been on Ashland PDs radar? Or is this something that came up after the murder in WA?

"Among those leads are about five or six potential people of interest found about two years ago. One of whom is Christian Delaurentiis, a man convicted of a similar murder in Aloha a few months after Grubbs’ death."

On the actual newscast last night, the anchor stated that Delaurentiis was a POI two years ago but is no longer thought to have any connection to David's murder.

However I just read this news article, published two days ago which states that Delaurentiis is a current POI and gives a little background on his previous crimes. He pled guilty to 7 bank robberies throughout the state of Oregon with one of them being in Medford (20 min drive from Ashland). He then killed his roommate and sometimes get-away car driver because the roommate threatened to expose Delaurentiis' crimes.

I hope this case gets solved soon. My heart breaks for David's family and friends.

Bumping for David and his family. They aren't forgotten.

My husband and I have often wondered if any of the mentally ill homeless who hang around the Bimart/ShopnKart parking lot could have had an altercation with David as he went about his duties...perhaps collecting carts. Could he have been followed to the bike path by an angry, highly unstable person? A couple of weeks ago, my husband was treated physically aggressively by a homeless man as he entered Bimart behind my husband. Security got involved and police came. The guy disappeared. Fortunately my husband sort of blends in, so the guy probably won't recognize him if he sees him again. But my observant husband will certainly know who he is and avoid him.

That must have been very disconcerting for your husband! I'm glad it didn't escalate further.

Still impatiently waiting for this case to be solved!
