So they want the area to be turned over to the local control, so that armed men from out of state can desecrate the sacred grounds of the local NA tribes...? How does that make sense again?

They know what's best for the people of Harney county.

I know how to get rid of them, keep the goofballs out of the news. Close off access on and off the place, they'll end up like the Donner party. A fitting end to a bunch of @$$ #ole$ ..

“One of the protesters taking part in the armed occupation at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge is a 68-year-old former woodworker and, according to court records and authorities, a convicted killer.

Neil Sigurd Wampler drove to Oregon from his home on the California coast earlier this month to join those protesting the arson convictions of father and son ranchers outside Burns.

In August 1977, Wampler, who was 29, was convicted of second-degree murder in the killing of his father, Forey Edward Wampler, in Lake County, California, according to the district attorney's office there and police reports.

During an interview with The Oregonian/OregonLive, Wampler denied he is the same man.

But his unusual name and date of birth matched court and prison records. A commander at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office also confirmed that the man at the refuge is a convicted murderer he knows as Neil Wampler in California, said Tony Cipolla, a sheriff's office spokesman. The commander identified him by watching a YouTube video of Wampler speaking from Oregon, Cipolla said.”

Wouldn't you think this fellow might LOVE the government for allowing him to serve just 4 years for murdering his own father? Odd to bite the hand that....oh, never mind.

Don't any of these people have jobs? How do they finance their calls to arms?

FBI Statement on Malheur National Wildlife Refuge Situation - 01/21/16

The FBI recognizes that many in the community have questions about why we are here and our role in helping to end the occupation of the wildlife refuge. We are here to work closely with Sheriff Ward and our local, state and federal partners to protect the safety and welfare of this community. This occupation has caused tremendous disruption and hardship for the people of Harney County, and our response has been deliberate and measured as we seek a peaceful resolution.

To paraphrase and read between the lines:
"In other words, given the disruption and hardship for the people of Harney County, don't you think we would have gone to the refuge to get this resolved immediately?...except for the fact that this is an armed group of people looking to provoke another Ruby Ridge or Waco so they can be martyrs, recruit more members and create more anti-government/LE sentiment in the US."

This is a complex situation and even though the occupation is wrong and getting more wrong every day, I think LE at all levels is being very smart letting this play out peacefully. A shootout at Bundy Corral is not needed or smart, but it's exactly what Bundy and company want so that LE looks bad. LE in this country has enough problems without being maneuvered into a confrontation. JMO

Yes - it is complicated, for sure. So, what is the resolution? One side is going to lose. Which one?

My guess is they are being financially backed by the Koch Brothers' American Lands Council and/or their Americans for Prosperity.

No matter what happens, the occupying militia group is going to spin it as a win and keep using other opportunities to promote their ideology IMO. But an actual win in this situation would be to get them off the land with no violence. Arrests, trials and prison would be nice too. But it won't stop them.
JMO

I wonder what there is to negotiate. IMO the feds are not going to negotiate any terms that give up any federal rights to the land. I may be wrong, but I don't see the feds negotiating on anything the Bundy brothers have publicly settled they want.
The only thing I can think that both sides would talk negotiations on is charges for the occupiers. They have racked up a lot. I hope the feds will not negotiate charges with them. That IMO would be the worst thing they can do. I just cannot think of any thing else that would be negotiated.
It is still my belief that Bundy and company know they have lost. They also have to know that once they vacate the property they will be rounded up one by one. That to me is why they won't leave the property.
IMO they cannot be allowed to walk away without any criminal charges or this will become a more frequent type event for more groups.

The FBI on Thursday defended its response to an armed group that has occupied an Oregon wildlife refuge for weeks, calling it "deliberate and measured" as it seeks a peaceful solution.

The statement by the FBI came a day after Oregon Governor Kate Brown*called the occupation*of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge "absolutely intolerable."

"The FBI recognizes that many in the community have questions about why we are here and our role in helping to end the occupation of the wildlife refuge," the FBI said Thursday.

"This occupation has caused tremendous disruption and hardship for the people of Harney County, and our response has been deliberate and measured as we seek a peaceful resolution," the FBI said.

Meanwhile, the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service said a new road reportedly built by the group may have damaged archaeological sites important to the Burns Paiute Tribe.*Oregon Public Broadcasting reported*that a new road was built, but a member of the group claimed they only removed snow from a path.

"There are any range of cultural artifacts that might have been impacted by this illegal construction," service spokesperson Miel Corbett said.

After the Bundy standoff I think the FBI knew something similar was going to happen and maybe should have had a plan ready. It seems like they're indecisive and kind off just winging it. There won't be any negotiating with the mm, imo, it will be give them what they want or they stay.

FBI and Oregon standoff leaders begin negotiations to end refuge occupation

“BURNS – Ammon Bundy, standing in a biting, freezing wind Thursday at the police blockade to the local airport, borrowed a cellphone from an FBI agent.

On the other end was an FBI negotiator who identified himself to Bundy only as "Chris."

And so opened talks between the leader of the refuge occupation and the federal agency in charge of bringing an end to the armed takeover, now in its third week.

For nearly an hour around noontime, the negotiator listened to Bundy's well-practiced litany of complaints against the federal government while probing for what it would take to end his occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

They ended the call with the promise to talk again Friday.”

BURNS, Ore. (KOIN) — Militia leader Ammon Bundy met with the FBI for a second straight day, but the meeting lasted only 5 minutes before Bundy walked out.

Bundy, leading the group of occupiers at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge since January 2, demanded the FBI allow media into their meetings. The FBI said no.

He said the FBI is overreaching their power and instead he said he would talk with local police about the issues. Bundy then headed to Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward’s office.
