Oregon standoff figure Jake Ryan found hiding in shed in Clark County

A homeowner in rural Clark County had called 911, and officers found Ryan asleep in a shed on the property, with a loaded .45-caliber handgun and several knives, Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Gabriel told a judge Wednesday.

FBI agents from Portland booked him into the Multnomah County Detention Center at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday.

I just don't know what to call them or categorize them as, mentally ill, uneducated, con artist, or is controlled education more like it that has made them this way? The logic is scammer like, yet they are proud? Limited education most likely. I don't like to use words to encourage something wrong, but their mindset is mind boggling as is ISIS...It has my attention. Good people who are uneducated/limited education, or just cons? All and more will come out eventually. Ima leaning one way. jmo

Lessee, what do they and ISIS have in common?

All of the money that taxpayers are paying for these people who do not believe in govmint. Let their supporters pay for them. Why should anyone else pay for these people? Is govmint only good when they get money?

David Fry makes unusual, personal plea for his release in federal court

Well, it's definitely the truth that Fry was terrified of being raped in jail, odd that a psychologist didn't think anything in particular was wrong with him, and downright bizarre that Jones used the language of psychology rather than the law to explain why Fry should be held.

Fry should be held because he (allegedly) committed a slew of federal offences, not least of which was threatening to kill federal LE in "self- defence."

Federal judge backs off from total gag order on refuge occupier Shawna Cox

In the face of an expected appeal, U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones Wednesday modified his gag order against Oregon standoff defendant Shawna Cox, limiting the restrictions on her public speech.

In his new order, Jones wrote that Cox should refrain from any conduct or speech that would incite others to trespass on or destroy federal government property, or incite unlawful violence.

It marks a step back from his earlier March 29 much broader restriction that she not make "any public comment' about her case, co-defendants "or any future protest movements.''

Lol, no kidding.

Bundy brothers refuse to enter pleas in Bunkerville standoff

Two of Cliven Bundy’s sons refused to enter not guilty pleas Friday to federal charges stemming from the 2014 armed standoff with law enforcement near the Bundy family ranch in Bunkerville.

That forced U.S. Magistrate Judge George Foley Jr. to enter not guilty pleas to 16 felony counts for the two brothers, Ammon Bundy, 40, and Ryan Bundy, 43.

The Bundys and three other defendants — Ryan Payne, 32, Brian Cavalier, 44, and Blaine Cooper, 36 — all were transported by U.S. marshals to Las Vegas from Portland, Ore., where they also face federal charges in the armed takeover of a government wildlife refuge in that state.

Jury Finds Oregon Man Guilty Of Taking Over Federal Lands

A federal jury has convicted Kenneth Medenbach for his role in taking over Bureau of Land Management property last year in southern Oregon.

The 63-year-old Crescent, Oregon, resident represented himself in the case. He was found guilty in a Eugene court Monday of unlawful occupation and illegal camping on federal lands.

Medenbach was the first person to be arrested and charged for his role in the occupation, when he drove a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service truck to a grocery store in Burns, Oregon. He faces charges of impeding federal officers and theft of government property in that case.

Malheur militants harassed deputies for weeks before standoff, Oregon sheriff tells Knezovich

Blaine Cooper and Jon Ritzheimer, who would become central figures in the standoff, followed Ward and his family as they went Christmas shopping, Ward said. Others followed them in the grocery store, and Payne once complained to Ward that Ward’s mother had threatened him, Ward said.

“I understand she’s a scary woman,” he said. “She’s 74 years old, has a pacemaker and is 5 feet 3 inches tall,” he said.

Oregon standoff suspect arrested in Cedar City

This is not the first tie to Iron County from the occupiers of the Oregon standoff.

On Jan. 13, Finicum and Ryan Bundy left the Malheur refuge to travel to Cedar City where Finicum discussed the occupation on the radio with local talk show host Bryan Hyde.

Former Iron County Commissioner David Miller, known for his support of state management over federal lands, also admitted to meeting with Finicum and discussing plans for a upcoming property rights workshop.

Miller has since resigned his seat on the commission to pursue ventures in Alaska.

Ward said he didn’t like the fact that many people who occupied the refuge falsely claimed to be military veterans. He’s a former Army medic who served in combat overseas.

Knezovich criticized the occupiers calling themselves patriots.

“I’m sorry, folks, they’re not patriots, they’re ****s,” Knezovich said. “They are, in fact, the true tyranny.”

Their intimidation of deputies and their families crossed the line, Knezovich said.

“True patriots don’t do that to other Americans,” he said.

During the standoff, Ward said, his primary concern was keeping innocent civilians out of the line of fire, because some of the militants stayed in town and continued to follow members of law enforcement and their families.

“It was a very trying time,” Ward said. “I looked over my shoulder during that time more than I did in Afghanistan and Somalia.”

“The matriarch of the Sharp Family Singers who performed at militant confrontations in Nevada and Oregon has been charged with assaulting police officers in Kansas and has lost seven children to state custody.

Odalis Sharp, 46, of Auburn, Kansas, faces a felony charge of interfering with law enforcement and two misdemeanor counts of battery of a law enforcement officer, according to Shawnee County officials in Topeka. She was arrested at her home last Friday and released on bail the following day.

In an interview Tuesday, Sharp said state officials have custody of seven of her 10 children. She said she didn't know the whereabouts of her other three, including 18-year-old Victoria Sharp. The teenager was riding with Robert "LaVoy" Finicum last January when he was shot and killed while trying to evade police north of Burns.”

I hope one or more of the children were brave enough to turn her in thinking this was a good opportunity to do that. Maybe the three whose whereabouts she does not know.

Judge orders release of refuge holdout Sean Anderson despite inflammatory videos

http://www.oregonlive.com/oregon-standoff/2016/05/judge_orders_release_of_refuge.html

“Sean Anderson, one of the last holdouts in the armed takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, won an order for his release Monday pending trial, but a prosecutor immediately challenged the decision.

Anderson, 47, is to remain behind bars until another judge reviews the order, possibly later this week.”

*

“Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Barrow played two videos of Anderson in the last hours of the standoff.

In one, Anderson urged people to come to the refuge and "fight for your country,'' suggesting that the "media has been waiting for a bloodbath.'' In the other, Anderson described the unfolding situation as a "free-for-all Armageddon,'' referred to law enforcement officers "who don't abide by their oath'' as the enemy and added: "If they stop you from getting here, kill them.''

In a third video that wasn't shown, Barrow said Anderson was captured discussing the need to "keep your eye in the sky'' with gunshots then heard off screen. Anderson wasn't seen on the video firing into the air, but admitted later to firing his gun, Barrow said.

Prosecutors suspect he was firing at either a plane or a drone.

"There was extensive aerial surveillance of the refuge,'' Barrow said. He didn't know if a drone or manned plane was overhead when Anderson fired, he said.

Matthew McHenry, Anderson's court-appointed attorney, urged the judge not to evaluate Anderson solely on the government's "shock'' videos, calling them a "miniscule fraction'' of his client's life. He also urged the court to consider the full context of the situation that Anderson faced.

"These are some very inflammatory videos he recorded and posted,'' McHenry acknowledged. "They're awful.''

"He is immensely and enormously regretful of those,'' McHenry said.

At the time, Anderson was among four people left at the refuge after the Jan. 26 arrest of the occupation leaders and fatal police shooting of occupation spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum. Staying at The Narrows campground, Anderson missed the FBI's order to the remaining people that they leave, his attorney said.

Anderson felt isolated and abandoned. "In all frankness, he freaked out,'' McHenry said. "He thought his and his wife's lives were in danger.''

McHenry presented to the court a written statement from Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings, who wrote in support of Anderson's release to Riggins, Idaho, where he and his wife have lived in a rented home since April 2015. The couple opened a camping supply store, Hurricane Outdoor Supply, in the rural town, but it shut down after a local forest fire drastically reduced the number of outdoor enthusiasts in the area, his attorney said. Sandy Anderson is now working at a local Chevron station.”
