This is an interesting development in the coming election. Jackson County Sheriff Winters has announced his retirement at the end of the year. His name is still on the ballot, but I imagine his opponent Corey Falls will "win" the election. What effect this has on Stephanie's case, if any, remains to be seen.

A little more info on "downstairs/basement/parking lot" threads for those who were wondering...and those who weren't. :)

http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...y-Room-PLEASE-READ-BEFORE-STARTING-NEW-THREAD!!!!

Thanks, Lilibet, I do appreciate this, but I think (if this is possible) that I thought I finally had it straight but now am slightly confused. I think my question is along the lines of: Let's say you're on a thread where you have questions or want to hear more thoughts from members but do not feel comfortable having the general public viewing it? Is that Jury Room (members only), even though it's stuff that is ON TOPIC for an already-established thread?

I'm sorry. I'm probably the only one not completely getting this.:blushing:

IMO The best thing to do in that situation would be to send a private message to the mod on that thread, or any mod if it's not obvious who it is. My go-to all-purpose mod is Kimster. Name the thread and outline the questions/info you are interested in discussing and ask if you could start a thread in the jury room. Ask if you could link the new thread in a comment on the main thread so that those who are interested could go there. Until I read the link I posted, I wasn't aware of the jury room where this could be done. I learn something new every day! :)

Mods are very responsive and helpful and will guide you.

October 4, 2014--15 long months since Stephanie disappeared.

It doesn't appear that there has been any significant progress since this time last year. Or at least nothing that can be publicized. My hope is that soon someone will grow a conscience and that someone will uncover her remains so that LE will finally have enough evidence to make a strong enough case to get a conviction. Stephanie's family and friends deserve that.

I hope it doesn't take twelve years! But there's always hope. This proves that publicity and pleas from family can help. I apologize in advance if my rant below hurts anyone's feelings, but if it gets results, it's worth it.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) - A missing person’s case in Salt Lake City, gone cold for 12 years, has now been upgraded to a homicide. Police now say they believe Aletha Jo Williams was a victim of murder and that they now have a person of interest.

Two weeks ago we were there when police scoured the Jordan River for any clues that might lead them to Aletha Jo Williams. At that time Aletha's sister pleaded with the public for any information.

"Whether good or bad give us some closure so that we might be able to get over this and get passed this and bring her home," said Lovoina Ortega.

Police say several people did exactly that; they called in with new information that detectives found credible.

Det. Cody Lougy told ABC 4 Utah, "People are stepping forward and doing the right thing in this investigation. Our homicide detectives are working relentlessly on this case and as I’ve said before allegiances change, people see pictures of Aletha on television and they tend to do the right things."

Will someone from Stephanie's family or circle of friends PLEASE speak out passionately, tearfully, angrily on Stephanie's behalf!!!! Standing in front of a blank wall, holding her photo and reading from cue cards with no emotion does not convey the loss you have experienced or motivate anyone to care or help! I mean no offense, and I can understand how hard this must be, but Stephanie deserves far more than has been offered by her well-meaning family. If they can't pull out all stops in front of a camera, I beg them to find someone who can speak with the urgency this case requires. Or, if you are that family member or friend, I imagine that Roma Villavicencio would be delighted to hear from you!!!!

Based on the new information and witness statements police reclassified the case from a missing person's case to a homicide investigation and they say they have a person of interest.

Do we know if Stephanie's case is still classified as a missing person's case? I know LE believes she is a victim of foul play, but I don't recall hearing that this is now a homicide investigation.

They say even if they can't find Aletha it doesn't mean they’re building a case that you don’t need a body in order to prosecute.

YES!!!!!

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

It's very likely that Stephanie was a victim of domestic violence. On the JCSO FB page, the first two cases mentioned involve domestic violence (one is child abuse). But there is no mention that JCSO is making an effort to raise awareness about domestic violence in Jackson county Oregon. Get with the program JCSO!

On the other hand, in Josephine county, there is a silent witness program in the Grants Pass business district organized by the Women's Crisis Support Team. Great job ladies!

Some of you may remember our discussion on Thread #1 in September 2013 about Ames' YouTube Channels Helias314 (now defunct) and 314Helias (still up but nothing new). Many of his videos were "Lone Wolf" productions with a blood-curdling howl as the opener. They promote anti-government, "patriot" beliefs and actions. We discussed the significance of the "Lone Wolf" as a domestic terrorist. Here are some references.

With all this in mind, I laughed out loud :biglaugh: when FBI director James Comey was interviewed on "60 Minutes" a couple of weeks ago. Here is what he said about "lone wolf" terrorists (speaking specifically about American jihadists recruited by ISIS/ISIL, but IMO his term applies just as well to the radical movement Ames promotes):

Scott Pelley: Some people call individuals who are radicalized "lone wolves." Is that the biggest threat we face?

James Comey: Yeah, people who use that term, it's not one I like because it conveys a sense of dignity I don't think they deserve. These homegrown violent extremists are troubled souls, who are seeking meaning in some misguided way. And so they come across the propaganda and they become radicalized on their own, sort of independent study, and they're also able to equip themselves with training again through the Internet, and then engage in jihad after emerging from their basement.

Scott Pelley: The name "lone wolf" offends you.

James Comey: It does. I'd prefer lone rat to capture the kind of person we're talking about.

Scott Pelley: Lone rat?

James Comey: Yeah.

:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

I gotta love James Comey. :loveyou::loveyou:

We have a wolf emoticon. :wolf2: I think we need a rat.

Just in case anyone's settling back out there, thinking people are forgetting about missing Stephanie Warner; No we haven't.

Zwiebel this is a beautiful picture of Stephanie. Thank you for posting it. I just wish that LE could catch a break in this case and make an arrest. And, you are right Stephanie is not forgotten.

That lone wolf stuff gave me the creeps before and still does! I agree a RAT is a much better description than a wolf. Maybe someone will run out of cheese one day and do the right thing and let us know what happened to Stephanie.

Oregon's an odd place, isn't it? No offence, I'm odd myself. But I posted a story in our bizarre thread today about a little bear wandering around Ashland Rite Aid and I was just thinking how amazing that is. Where I am, the most exotic creature that might wander into a store would be a pigeon. No wonder Stephanie chose it as her home.

Looks like there's room for almost everyone and everything in Oregon. Except those with hate and fear in their hearts; they don't seem to feel too comfortable there.

Yes, Oregon is a loveably odd place, and Ashland is even odder. :) Here's the baby bear story and video. We might as well show it here too since it's a slow news day on this thread. It made the national news, much to my delight. I've shopped at that store many times, but no bears showed up while I was there. :( At thirteen pounds, it was smaller than kitties we've had.

Stephanie would have loved this story.

They end up in Florida. :saythat: I'm so sorry, Florida.

Cute story Lilibet & Zwe!

People used to say that all the restless, uneasy people ended up in California, as it was as far west as they could travel without hitting the ocean. Maybe now that the ocean isn't such an impassable barrier, Florida's replaced it? Because it's a possible quick exit point for those people thinking they might have to leave in a hurry?

Luckily, Florida authorities seem very quick to co-operate, make arrests and extradite when asked, so any criminals fleeing there are living in a fool's paradise, if you ask me. Just because a person could flee abroad from Florida quickly, doeesn't mean law enforcement there will let them. :)

There ought to be some more searches for Stephanie. Intensive, comprehensive ones. With lots of equipment and resources. It would cost an awful lot of money, but isn't she worth it? I think she'll be found because the person who disappeared her isn't as clever as they think they are. Wonder if there's any way to get people to donate those resources?

I agree Zwie. Stephanie is certainly worth the kind of search you describe and with enough resources, she very well could be found. A well-publicized, heart-tugging "Go Fund Me" campaign might get some contributions. But IMO the initiative for intensive, comprehensive searches and the fund-raising effort MUST come from Stephanie's family or a representative they appoint. If the past almost 16 months is any indication, that's not going to happen. And that makes me want to just scream! And that's probably all I should say so I won't get banned.
