Nel says he has rarely heard such devastation from a family as that relayed by Barry Steenkamp and Kim Martin in their testimony. He says the judge has a duty to ensure:

Nel points out there is a difference between regret and remorse. Nel says #OscarPistorius has not shown genuine remorse. Rather regret.

Glad Nel is making the point that Oscar was not willing to testify or take the court into his confidence yet he granted the upcoming ITV interview to present his side of the story. Nel says this is disrespectful to the court.

Nel continues : Let's look at May 2015 to now . OP changed his mind apparently on his intentions and would have given the Defence something to work on, but he don't have it as OP hasn't testified.

Nel Let's look at what JFleming said about the other case Martin, where the perp never testified, the centrality of not knowing why a perp acted the way he did, thus a need for harsh punishment for not testifying.
Counsel's speculation on behalf of the perp is "not equivalent"

Nel Roux will give lots of reasons for OP, but they won't suffice.
It's murder but it's up to the accused to take the court into his confidence but he hasn't done so.

Nel Whilst awaiting sentence, he has given a version, for TV,the court knows he has gone on to explain what happened that night .
